We adopted Opal (since renamed Mona) on May 5, 2017. Cats are not known for their tolerance of change and Mona did not disappoint. She spent her first week or two in our master bathroom's closet. She slowly started coming out and by the end of her second week she was moving around our bedroom and starting to spend the nights with us in bed. She has slept with us every night since. After about a month she started exploring the second floor of the house and after five months she made the great leap to the ground floor of the house. She gets along well with everyone and is not afraid to show them she's the boss. She's taken a particular liking to Lana, our sable-colored Shepherd mix. For a girl about seven years of age she has a remarkable amount of energy and loves to play with us. We love her to pieces and can't wait to see what the next few months has in store for all of us!

Notes from Home
Hi SCRC-
SIX MONTH UPDATE: I guess we hit the jackpot. What an incredibly wonderful, affectionate, funny, active, vocal, youthful, sociable and healthy pair of incredibly bonded 14 year olds! Have I left anything out? They seem to be so comfortable that they're starting to be a little naughty, but it's all happy cat stuff and we can handle 'em! And of course we've all been incredibly, historically snowbound, so all cats and humans in this vicinity are just coming out of extreme cabin fever as the snow piles shrink.

Harry now howls for playtime constantly, into which Kyrie immediately inserts herself. Favorite toy: their SCRC wands, with which they arrived here. Harry is clearly a lion, in attitude and stature, but Kyrie is pretty nimble and ferocious as well. Kyrie's excess weight seems better - she is just built like a basketball. Nighttime sleeping arrangements are double bunking in their SCRC leopardskin bed, which somehow stays at the foot of our bed without falling off. Harry spends some time under the covers, but eventually misses his sister. Kyrie is the latest sleeper in the family, and holds out until breakfast is served.

Since Harry and Kyrie came with their vet records, we took the liberty of sending a photo Christmas card to Dr. Erin Smith in Williamsburg to thank her for saving them and getting them to you. She wrote back, "I really do appreciate your note - it is great to have good news, especially around this time of year. My staff absolutely loved the pictures!!"

One Year Update:
Kyrie is doing wonderfully. She is active, loving, inquisitive, talkative, playful and hysterically funny. She sees the Vet tomorrow, and we will report any issues, but none are expected. She was a touch on the portly side when we got her, but she looks trim now. We must also make references to her brother Harry, because they are a team and are completely inseparable. She adores him. Her most important activity every day is grooming him. He loves it and returns the favor, if he can stay awake. She has trimmed his whiskers and eyebrows to about 1 inch length. Maybe that is to keep him out of tight spaces, into which he loves to careen when he is romping around. Kyrie has the silkiest fur and keeps it beautifully groomed. She has a sharp, demanding and quite comical voice. If we ignore her demands, she adds syllables. Chow time is usually preceded by quite a duet. She is a very loving girl with us. Kyrie has a funny flopping technique; she climbs up beside us on a seat and topples backward against our side. She uses her paw to grab our hand and pull it down so that we will both hold her back foot and scratch her belly. Go figure -

We will always be grateful to Siri and SCRC for making a very convincing argument that these were wonderful cats to adopt, in spite of their advanced age. It seems to us that they just needed someone to pay attention to them, and perhaps never got that except from each other. Just a hunch. We are all very much in love and we expect to have many happy years together.

Oct. 4, 2016 - We're just having a love fest up here in Massachusetts. We wonder every day how we were so fortunate to have adopted Kyrie and her brother Harry. (Can't mention one without the other, as they are utterly inseparable). Really, these two are outstanding cats in every respect. Thank you Siri - you really nailed it when you suggested that potential adopters should not be concerned about their ages (13 at the time) and should consider their good health and personalities. Kyrie and her brother are quite at home and well adjusted. They are so well-adjusted that they are learning how to push our buttons and be a little naughty! They crave affection and attention, which are NOT in short supply here, and are comfortable with visitors. All's well - exceptionally well - on the second anniversary.

Sorry to report that Kyrie passed away on November 24, 2017. In many ways, she remained healthy until the end - kept all her teeth, no diabetes, etc.. Perhaps her body clock just ran out of time, as it did for her brother this past April. She and her brother were great animals and loving pets, as originally foretold by Siri. Although we only had these senior citizens for a few years, we would not be hesitant to adopt older cats in good health, if a good fit otherwise.

Milkshake had his Vet appointment yesterday, he is in excellent health and has gained about a pound since we got him

Mario & Paula

One month since our adoption of Milkshake and he has adjusted very well to his new home. He gets along great with Princess.
We love him more each day that goes by.

Well it's been six months already since Milkshake became part of our family.
Paula and I feel like he's been with us forever. He weighs in at ten pounds and is very fit and healthy. Eats very well and has no major issues. Milkshake is a very smart cat, always trying to figure out ways to amuse us. He loves attention and is a big talker. Here is a recent picture of him.

It's been 4 years with snowshoe and we love him very much. He now sits on Mario's lap quiet often. He is the alpha male in the house but isn't to rough on Jamaica. He takes the best photos of all the cats.

FIGARO
I'm cute, I'm friendly, I'm active. Did I say cute? We came from a stray litter of 5 - D'Marcus is my brother. I've been to the vet, pronounced both healthy and adorable. I need one more vaccine, then will be all ready to go home. I am not the boldest kitten in the world, but I'm not shy, so a quitter home would suit me best. I really, really would like to have a nice cat or kitten friend though. More pictures and movie coming soon. I did pose for foster mom this morning - am I cute, or what??

I adopted and brought Figaro (aka D'Antonio) home to his big brother Geppetto. Within 3 days they were playing and cuddling. Figaro felt right at home and has overcome his shyness instantly. He is very affectionate with me. This was a perfect match for Figaro's forever home. Thanks to all of you that helped make this happen ---Judith

WIMMY
I am pretty much interested in doing my own thing, but will keep you giggling with my antics. I'm a water gal, and do a little dance while drinking. Great in all my habits although I dig to China just a bit in the box. I love to chirp particularly when it's food time. I come with everything you need and am perfect for the gal or guy who leads a busy life but would still like to have a cat!

NIKKO
It's a bird, it's a plane, just kidding...it's me flying through the air chasing a wand toy! I am very self confident and friendly; we can't decide which I love more - being held and giving kisses or playing like a wild man with toys - watch my videos and see for yourself. If you're looking for a loving, active, youngster to bring a breath of fresh air into your home, look no further!

Notes from Home
Nikko f/k/a Tahoe is quickly becoming the darling of the household. Fosse and Amelie acted like he was a space alien or serial killer for a couple of days instead of a half-grown kitten, but they adjusted surprisingly quickly considering Nikko busted out of solitary much sooner than I would have preferred. There were words but no blows. :) Only two weeks later, the only words exchanged are when Nikko, the rambunctious teenager, barrels into Amelie by accident. He has limited control over his landings. :D

I was surprised that Fosse accepted him almost immediately, but Amelie was slow to warm up. I think she was just feeling a little insecure since she has only been with me 8 months. Fosse, the elder statesman, ran interference between them for a few days until Amelie started to feel more comfortable with Nikko and Nikko learned to approach her more carefully. Today, I watched them take turns chasing each other around the house. They all three love the Cat Dancer (thanks, Melanie!!) and actually take turns leaping for it, although Nikko takes three times as many turns as Amelie and Fosse. ;)

Nikko is also a total love cat. He is affectionate and cuddly and loves to "help" me around the house. Of course, his idea of help is stalking the defrosting turkey in the fridge, climbing into the dishwasher, and getting in my face when I'm brushing my teeth and putting on my makeup. He's gotten mascara on his whiskers more than once. :)

In short, he's perfect!!

Notes from Home
Six months already? I can't remember when Missy was not part of our lives. She is a regular mischief maker. Leave anything on any surface that Missy can reach and she up there throwing things on the floor. Once they're on the floor, she delights in playing with them and if possible throwing them around. We've learned to keep our surfaces clear of any breakable objects.

Most days Missy sits for hours at the window in my office and checks out the critters that come to eat the seeds that fall from our bird feeder. She begs to go outdoors and stands by the door hoping this time I will let her out and is sooo disappointed when I deny her wish. I did get a leash to allow her outdoor walks but she lays on the ground and refuses to walk with me, so I carry her around in the fresh air. I wonder how long she lived outdoors before she was found because she definitely has the "hunter" instinct. She'll even play with a spider in the house when she finds one.

She does like to eat and I think has gained some weight since she arrived. We are trying very hard to feed her only twice a day and only the amount the Vet says she needs. She gets some treats, only a few Greenies, once a day. But anytime I open the refrigerator, there she is begging for food, even if she's just finished her meal. I'm hoping with time, this behavior will fade out.

She's still not a "lap cat" but now tolerates my holding her and petting her while she's on my lap for about 10 minutes. She likes to snuggle next to us and during the winter months, if we are under a throw blanket, she will crawl under it with us.

She takes a while to warm up to strangers and often when there are visitors in the house she will hide, especially if the visitors include a young child trying to pick her up. We love this beautiful animal and are grateful to all the folks who helped bring Missy into our lives. She keeps us laughing and delighted by her antics. It is a absolute joy to share our lives with Missy.

It's been one year since Missy first came into our lives. My how time flies. I'm happy to report that our mischievous Missy is in excellent health but needs to lose some weight, according to the Vet who saw her last week. Missy has gained 3 pounds since we got her a year ago, She's become a little more picky about what she eats now that she's used to being fed regularly, but if it's one of her favorites, she will eat as much as is available. The Vet has admonished us and told us that will have to resist feeding our feisty girl, except at mealtimes, regardless of her antics and begging. Not such an easy task. She loves cantaloupe and whenever I am eating it she will be right next to me bagging me to give her some. Does anyone else know of a cat that loves cantaloupe? The Vet said to expect her to misbehave for a while when we cut down on her treats and only feed her at mealtimes. He did say she could still have her favorite Greenie treats but not too many.

Missy has changed so much since we first brought her home. She's become much more friendly towards strangers and when we have guests she no longer hides, but comes close and even allows our guests to pet and play with her. She is a very playful creature and when she wants to play she can become pretty insistent by dragging her toys to where ever we are and annoying us until we give in and play with her. Her favorite toy is a stuffed porcupine. She plays pretty rough with it so I've had to repair it several times. She still loves her paper bags, but only if you interact with her and poke the bag so she can reach out ant try to get what ever you are using to poke, including your hand, so we have to be careful. If the paper bag is on the kitchen floor, she will run at it from a distance and slide into it propelling it across the floor for several feet. She's such fun to watch when she's in a playful mood, which is often.

She's still not a "lap cat" although she will sit on my lap for five or six minutes if I continuously scratch her neck and she doesn't really like being picked up. but she does like to snuggle next to us when we are sitting on the couch reading or watching TV. Missy loves being brushed and will even let me brush her belly when she's relaxed. My last cat purred all the time and her purr was very loud, almost like an engine running. Missy purrs infrequently and then very quietly. Sometimes the only way I know she's purring is when I feel her throat vibrating.

Missy still loves to sit by the window and watch the wildlife, birds, squirrels and chipmunks, that frequent our yard. She has a frequent suitor, a black and white cat who sits outside the window staring at her. She hisses whenever he comes to call. I do take her outside on a leash. She has learned how to walk on the leash and I usually don't need to carry her around now, but we have never encountered her suitor when we are outdoors.. I'm not sure how she would react. Not sure I want to find out either.

Missy has brightened our lives in so many ways. Thanks again to all the people that enabled her to be part of our lives.

Our Missy has become quite a fussy character. When Missy arrived in our home, she would eat anything, including bugs, flies and moths. Now she turns up her nose at premium cat food if the doesn't like the gravy or broth. The Vet, who we saw last week, put her on a diet since she gained one pound in the last year. The Vet said she's borderline obese and needs to lose weight or at least not gain any more weight. She does love to eat the food she enjoys.but we were recommended to not feed her any dry food until she loses some weight. She is not happy and lets us know, but her health is more important because we want her to have a long healthy life.

She is enjoying her downstairs neighbor, a part coon cat named Hawkson. They play every day and at times can get quite rough with each other. Missy will hiss at Hawson if he gets too rough and he will back off. But there are times when the two of them race around the house jumping over the furniture and charging up and down the stairs like two racers. They provide us with lots of laughs. Then the two of them will sit with their tails wagging by our sliding glass door and watch our friendly chipmunks and red squirrels who come to eat corn or to steal the bird's food. At times the smaller animals will come right up to the glass to taunt the two feline critters stalking them. This is a photo of Missy waiting for the chipmunk to reappear after eating a few kernels of the corn outside the window

CLOVER
A lovely young lady, I'm round and soft as they come! Much more affectionate than some of those snooty females, I'd absolutely blossom being the only cat if someone wants one of the better female lap cats! I could certainly go with a respectful geezer cat who wasn't going to crowd me.

Notes from Home
It's been 2 years! Such a sweet, sweet kitty. She had her check up with the vet in September and passed with flying colors. My 94 year old Mom died in May and Clover has blossomed even more. I think she must have been careful and sensed my Mother's frailty. She very close to being the boss of me. I love her and I am thrilled she's sharing her life with me! Playful, loving, funny. What more could you ask for?

11/22/17 Wow, time flies. Today is our 3rd anniversary. I bought a condo and we moved in March. Clover loves it here. We went from 900 sq ft to 1600 sq ft and she loves running from room to room. I have a balcony that's open on one side and I had one of those pull down screens installed so that Clover could hang out and feel like she's outdoors. She loves it. We have lots of big windows and lots of spots to perch and observe the world. I keep telling her that she's a nearly purrrfect cat. We visited the vet on 11/2 and she got a very good report card.

Notes from Home
4/24/17: First night at home Nonni is exploring and affectionate
5/2/17: Week One is over. Nonni continues to be affectionate. Still isolated from Bodhi but becoming more curious about what's outside her bedroom door.
5/29/17: Lucy (fka Nonni) is fully integrated into my home. She is affectionate and loves sitting on my lap. She gets along well with Bodhi, eating together, and often occupying space in the same area. I've noticed a little playfulness with each other. Occasionally, they will sit on me at the same time, but this does not seem fully comfortable for them yet. Lucy is very athletic, jumping and climbing to high places to perch, and she loves watching the world go by out the windows. She is truly a lovely cat and I'm happy she is settling in nicely here.

8/12/17: It's heartwarming when a new cat starts to show her softness after she settles in for a few months. Lucy has been on excellent behavior since moving in last April. She's welcomed chin scratches and lap sitting, has played with Bodhi, and as I said before, has been an overall sweet girl. In the last week or two, I'm starting to see her really gain her comfort. Previously, when she was sleeping and I would touch her, she would startle and meow. Now (as seen in the pic) when I touch her while sleeping, she is more likely to roll over and invite belly scratches. She now sleeps against my body at night (before she slept at the foot of the bed). Very nice to see her feeling more comfortable.

11/22/17: Celebrated 6 months with Lucy last month. Wow! Time flies, yet it seems like she's been here much longer. Lucy continues to get more comfortable here. She's in my lap as soon as I sit down, sleeps on top of me in bed, follows me from room to room, and chats with me when she has something to complain about! Lucy and Bodhi continue to develop their relationship--lots of playing and even co-lap sitting now. Lucy is a very sweet girl.

Zuul is a very happy girl! She loves her Moms and her brother Kraken (Krakers). She is sad that her older companion, Lu-Lu, crossed the rainbow bridge last week.
