Just got here, and am settling in well. I am exploring every square inch of my temporary home to see if it is - well, suitable. Beds? Check. Cat tree? Check. Clean litter box? Check. Food and water? Check. Big window? Check. Only thing missing is my new home.

TRISTAN
Everyone wants a lap cat right? Well I am a master lap snuggler - do you need someone to cuddle with you at night? Well here I am. You can not find anyone who snuggles and cuddles better then me. Does my age bother you - pah! I am young at heart and healthy as can be. I play with wand toys and give the old laser light a run for its money. I am good with other kitties and I love dogs. Yes, I know my eyes look funny but I can see - didn't you read the part about me loving to play with wind toys?? I went to the doctor and they poked and prodded and guess what?? They found not a thing. Yup. My blood work is fabulous. Now, where is my lap to curl up in??

p.s. Watch my video and you will get a taste of what a major love bug I am.

Notes from Home
Tristan is finally recovered from his ordeal! He got his stitches out today and is looking so much better. He is happily enjoying life spending his time sitting on window ledges watching the world outside or cuddling in a lap. He is obviously a very tough cat and we are thrilled by how well he has healed!

Tristan is doing great. He is playful and cuddly, and is doing his best to explore every nook and cranny of our house (he is a pro at opening cabinets). He has the sweetest little meow and loves to talk. He is quite a happy boy.

To celebrate Tristan's one year adoption anniversary, we took a couple pictures today. Also pictured is Tristan's new best friend, our recently adopted seven month old puppy, Freya!

Tristan is still doing very well. He did have to have all his teeth removed this year, but he has adjusted to his toothless existence quite well and you'd have no idea unless you looked in his mouth. He and Freya get along great, they even play together! I've add a picture of Tristan from Halloween when he dressed up as Oscar the Grouch. We're so happy to have Tristan as a part of our family!

I can't believe it's been three years since we adopted Tristan! He continues to be an affectionate, confident, and playful member of the family. No one believes us when we tell them he's 13! Hopefully we have many years ahead of us with Tristan as he recently got a clean bill of health from his senior panel blood work. I've added a couple of recent pictures of Tristan to his page.

KILOWATT
Do you like stripes? Do you like snuggles? Do you like easy going? Well that's me! I plan on telling foster mom more about me soon. She says she thinks I might like other cats too. More info on me, soon!

Notes from Home
Snowflake has been renamed to Kilowatt. He is a super friendly kitty, so cute. He had some issues with throwing up for awhile but I think I straightened that out with the food. He also did pee on a couple of things. They were three specific items not just a corner of a room , so hopefully this can be avoided in the future.

Maui is out in the open more with the new cat (Kilowatt - formerly Snowflake). It worked ! He is such a pretty cat and lovable, but still shy and Kilowatt is definitely the dominant one.

ZUZU
Hi, I'm Opal. My new foster Meom calls me Jewel and Gem-mie! Those are silly nicknames! I'm a bit on the shy side so you'll have to move forward with me at my pace. I'm not sure if I like the orange boy cat that comes to my door. When I feel more comfortable here I'll go to the door to meet him.
So if you're looking for a quite girl to work with I'm your kitty. I'll need your patience and love.

Notes from Home
Opal's new name: Zuzu. Named for Zuzu Bailey, the little girl from the holiday film "It's A Wonderful Life." Zuzu is high energy and highly demanding. She's an acrobatic little princess; a high-wire artist w/out the wire. Her leaps and flips in the air when chasing her wand toys are amazing. When not chasing after her toys and watching the birds out the window, Zuzu can be found curled up at my side (no doubt dreaming of wand toys and birds).

SIMON
I'm a very gentle soul looking for my forever family. I love pets & especially enjoy my belly rubs! I just arrived, so I'm in the process of explaining to my foster meowm what my likes & dislikes are. I would love a home that's quiet and has room for me on my families' lap. I'm a great cuddle bug!

Soft purrs,
Simon

Notes from Home
It's hard to imagine Simon ever being worried about anything. (I remember his foster meowm saying he was worried) He is so comfortable with himself, and he figures that any place he wants to be, why, that is the place he should be! He hops up on the cabinet to get an early "jump" on dinner (as if he ever missed a meal!) and he sits on Paw's lap most evenings. He is so sweet natured that we are happy to let him decide where he ought to be!

Simon is the only adult cat I've ever seen who likes to chase his own tail. He's collected several nicknames, including Pork Chops, Bumptious (which is the best description of his personality) and Bootsie. Most cats sleep rolled up into a ball, but Simon sleeps with total abandon -- stretched out in any direction with his legs splayed out all over the place.

Simon also is the only cat I've seen who flicks his tail back & forth to indicate pleasure, instead of agitation. I think this has confused Oliver, and I have to say they're not exactly friends. They both are doing fine, but Oliver still hisses when Simon runs up to him too quickly. They share litter boxes just fine, and they eat near each other fine. But mostly, Oliver would rather keep a few feet's distance from Simon. They're starting to get used to sitting on the bed or couch a few feet apart, so I think they are slowly working things out.

One more thing -- we broke Simon of his disgusting habit of rolling in the litter box by switching him to the "dry system" that Oliver was already using. It's a box with small gravel in it to catch the poop and slots in the bottom so the wet stuff goes through to a pad underneath. Simon accepted the new box right away. He is a real sweetheart to have around!

ZIVA
Talkative and outgoing. Lived with children and other pets. Beautiful coat! Charmed the vet at her exam. Ready to go after Christmas. Would you like to party with this beautiful kitty?

No new pictures yet
Notes from Home
2/6/2013: Ziva is a wonderful addition to my home where there was already a resident six-year old male, gray tabby named Shadow. After a month, I still have them on separate floors when I am not home during the day. They are well aware of each other and after Ziva's initial hisses, they have rubbed noses and spent time in each other's space. I think that Ziva is the more sociable one and is ready to chase Shadow around and play. But Shadow is not ready to move so fast and sometimes feels that Ziva is invading his space. I believe they will both come around eventually but for now, we are all taking things slowly.

2/17/2013: Six weeks ago I received Ziva into my home and she is quite the diva, without a doubt! I was starting to wonder when this "bonding" with Shadow would happen because there have been more than a few hisses on Ziva's part, and an occasional hiss from Shadow. I started to wonder if perhaps Shadow did not see Ziva as a welcome addition to our home. Today, all my anxieties were cast aside as both cats shared my bed for much of the afternoon. Shadow slept by my pillow which is his usual spot and Ziva slept in Shadow's Millie bed. I checked on them periodically as they slept about two feet apart from each other and it was pure tranquility. What a pleasant surprise......I continue to take things one day at a time and remain cautiously optimistic.

1/7/2017: It’s been five years now and Ziva is quite the Alpha Female! This has not been easy for my other cat, Shadow, who was already resident in my home and is the Alpha Male! They co-exist but it’s not always smooth. Ziva really wants to be friends with Shadow like when she starts grooming him. But then out of nowhere, she will attack him and now Shadow doesn’t trust her. He likes being groomed but then he’ll stop her to avoid being attacked. Ziva has a voracious appetite and has been known to help herself to my food when I have turned my back. We finally solved her problem of constantly throwing up. She had an ultrasound done some years ago and was diagnosed with gastrointestinal issues, so now she is on a prescription diet and a medication that I crush and mix into her food a couple of times during the week. Both of them recently had their semi-annual senior cat visit with the vet and are doing really well. I have attached some photographs of Ziva and Shadow.

COOKIE
I'm just a little bit shy but I've fit right in here at Foster Mom's house with the four resident Siamese and small dog. I don't cause anybody any trouble and I love to cuddle up with Foster Mom.

I got turned in with my sister Crystal (VA8880) who already found a new forever home. My former human couldn't afford me - seems like that's happening a lot these days.

I have a short tail - I'm supposed to have some Manx in my background. You can check it out on my video.

I get along with everybody and am really affectionate - what more could you want?

Please ask about me and let's see if we are meant to be together.

Love

Cobey

PS I have just slightly crossed eyes - enough to get a smile out of you every time you look at me!

Notes from Home
2//6/13 As I write. Cookie (new name, I tell him he is my chocolate cookie right out of the oven.), is fast asleep on the big, comfortable arm chair in my study. I think playing attentive host for the past week has worn hmi out. After an hour or 2 of hiding he took to my friend and treated her like a new family member, I was so proud of him! We have established a great morning routine, up with the sun, Cookie enjoys the screened in balcony while I refill his water putout his food and make my tea. Then newspaper in hand we both adjourn to the balcony to watch the ducks paddle past our home.. Nap time calls for a return to our bed where I bury him in the top sheet for hide and seek time. Then his nap. I think you can say he has adapted to new surroundings.
7/6/13

ODE TO COOKIE
Cookie is so smart, playful, and cuddly too,
And boy is he handsome with those eyes of blue!
Who’d would ever have thought that
Julie would find such a wonderful cat!
To get to his new home, he did travel so far,
Then he settled in, and became such a star!
He is admired by everyone who meets him, without fail,
And they all are so impressed by his stubby but beautiful tail!
Then when he speaks, what a wonderful sound,
Not like those other cats that you find around…
It’s not a purr, not a hiss, and not a meow.
Soft like a whisper you recognize anyhow!
He’s saying he’s happy and glad to be home,
And he is so deserving of his very own poem!
1/5/14
We are celebrating Cookie's first year with me with lots of kisses and hugs. No treats since he has been up to 17 lbs and now is down to 16.4. As you may recall he holds the world record as most tenacious couch potato, so, although we try some play time, it is not greeting with any enthusiasm, and we just go back to kisses, hugs and cuddles (which suits us both just fine.) I decided on the name "Cookie" because he is soft, sweet and delicious shades of brown.
I remember your mentioning that he enjoyed spending some time out on your patio. Here he has a 9x9 totally screened in balcony from which he views a picturesque canal and lots of birds. I recently had the screen changed to "pet proof" a heavier mesh that is secure and claw proof . He loves to be out there in the morning, before nap time and sometimes to watch the sun set.
Cookie is still shy with other people. It took 3 days before he would rub up against a visiting friend, and there is only one local friend who can pet him.
Cookie usually sleeps with me towards morning, the rest of the night...in either an antique, brocade wing-back chair, big club chair in the office or occasionally his own bed.
I did have him checked out by a local vet several weeks after he arrived, the vet recommended a urinary diet food. Fortunately he likes it and had been on it since. I will be making an appointment with the vet the end of the month.
I often thank you Donna, in my thoughts, for the wonderful care you gave him and for helping me adopt my loving soul mate.
My deep, deep gratitude also to Kathi who encouraged me to look at VA 8940, because she thought we would be a good match. Kathi...it was a marriage made in heaven.
All good wishes to you both for 2014.
1/7/18
Cookie dictated the following to me because tapping the keys hurts his paws.
"Dear Kathi: hope your weather will improve soon. We have had temperatures that leave us shivering, so mom and I cuddle up in the big chair, covered with a cozy throw. She says my tummy acts as her hot water bottle and I love the cuddling and her whispering to me..."You arenot the best cat in the world...You are the BEST CAT IN THE UNIVERSE (whatever that is.). We both think of you often, and remember you brought us together. A great matchmaker. Happy and healthy New Year. Cookie and Julie

JOY
Everyone needs some Joy in their life! So how about it - pick me!

No new pictures yet
Notes from Home
1-20-13 Joy is such fun and a very sweet kitty. She and Max are coming along very well together, now that he has realized he doesn't need to be afraid of her - he does get a little jealous but with enough attention it is getting better. Just in the last couple of days they are fine in the same room, playing together a little, greeting each other by touching noses, and starting to work out territory around food. She joined us at bedtime last night for the first time and it worked out with no altercations. We have made a lot of progress this week!

2-6-13 Joy is such fun, a real little clown. She and Max are doing great, playing and chasing a lot. Today she washed him on the head. They do greetings, head butts and rubs. She occasionally lap sits, and will be held and purrs when in the mood, but is still very busy! She loves to have us play with her and demands playtime with meows and stalking around until someone pays attention. She knows her name - Joy- but isstill learning to come when called, she mostly still looks up and takes a message. She sleeps with us now at the foot of the bed, and just last night got under the covers with me to snuggle for a while. Our vet and the whole office just loved her. He says she is very healthy.
7-7-13
Joy is wonderful, she is growing up. She is very happy and has settled in very well. She and Max are good buddies and play and hang out together which is just what we were hoping for! She is a funny little cat, she is getting more mature, but still loves to actively play and get into things. She greets us enthusiastically when entering a room or coming home or being fed. She is not a lap cat, and will occasionally lap-sit if one picks her up and puts her there and she is in the mood ; if so, she purrs up a storm, but it's not that often. She is also not crazy about being picked up, but we are slowly working on both. She loves to be petted and brushed, and has a favorite spot on the back of a chair for lots of pets and chin rubs which happens frequently throughout the day. Her litter box habits are fine and she has stopped shoveling litter onto the floor and playing in the box. She is a night owl and stays up and plays for a lot of the night and lounges during the day. She sits in a big window and "chases" bugs that are on the other side attracted by the light. We don't know where she got this night time habit, Max sleeps like a log with us for the entire night. Aside from an occasional pounce on the feet or purr-knead session at 2 am, it is not a problem, however.

The only downside, is that she does scratch the new microfiber couch. We do have copious scratching boxes, turbo, and a carpet and jute covered post all of which she uses. We just got the double stick tape to put on favorite places to see if that saves the couch, any other advice welcome.
1-7-14
Joy is a lovely cat. Beautiful and still fun. She meows when she wants us to play, and paws the closet where certain toys are. Her behavior is pretty much the same as the last update, but she is a bit more sociable. She still comes under the covers at night and purrs and kneads, sometimes when it is cold she will sleep under the covers next to me. She and Max are fast friends and she imitates some of his behavior whichever is funny. He flops on the rug when we get home as a greeting sometimes, and sometimes she will flop down next to him when he does that. We love Joy, she is a quirky and entertaining personality, and appreciate so much that she came to live with us!
1-17-15
Joy is a wonderful little cat. Still plays and is great friends with Max. They nap together, romp and play. She is more vocal about wanting attention and wanting to play with us too. She is funny and has a sense of humor, getting into things when she know you are watching. She is only now learning to become a bit of a lap cat. We have been slowly working on this and now she will sit in a lap for increasing amounts of time and purr. She is so much fun.
1-7-18
Joy has tuned into a regular lap cat now and loves attention! She constantly seeks pets and is a wonderful companion. She and Max are still good friends, hang out and nap together, and despite his age of 12 they still play and chase around the house at least once a day. Joy is a very fun and lovely cat!
