Notes from Home
12/10/2019
It's been four years since I've provided an update on Canoe.
Life sure has changed in the five years I've had him. I've gone from having him and Gus as my only cats, to adding Willow, then becoming a foster parent for a local group as well as managing a feral colony! With all the cats that come into and out of my home, Canoe can be trusted as that one stable resource in these foster cats lives. He accepts each cat that comes in my home, is the first to groom them, and just has that calming presence these cats need as not all come from easy situations.
Yet he can crack me up - he's one of my oldest cats, but loves to get in the thick of things with my youngsters! You'd never know he was up in double digits in years!
He's also still one of my most loving cats. He now loves being held and will either paw at me when I walk by him or roll over - anything to get my attention so that I will love on him. His two favorite places are the large heated pad (him on it in the new pic) or on my lap. He's just a total love bug!
Adding him to my family was one of the best decisions of my life. Thank you so much for entrusting him to me.
Pamela

One Year Update
Wow, I can't believe a year has already flown by!
Canoe is the perfect combination of naughty and nice. Naughty - he's a thief (especially where food is concerned and he is obsessed with BUTTER), he knows how to open cabinets (which now have baby-proof locks), and he is my only cat that I can't keep off the counter, refrigerator, and china cabinet. He is a very naughty boy!
But he is so lovely, that the naughty stuff just doesn't matter. Although he's not fond of being held, he is a lap cat extraordinaire. He is also my dad’s favorite as when my dad comes over to let my dogs out most afternoons, Canoe just lies in the cat tree at the door and head butts my dad’s hand when being pet - my dad loves that. His one big fear was of my bed. Now he is a bed cat extraordinaire and his favorite thing is to sleep on top of my lap when I'm trying to sleep. That's a far cry from the cat who was afraid of my bed - and even more so when I was actually in/on it. He has adjusted beautifully and is a happy member of my family
I think his purpose of coming to my house was to rest. I'm not sure if he had it tough or not in his past, but he loves all the cat and dog beds located throughout the house and takes full advantage of them for most of the day. He doesn't "cat nap" like my other cats do - he sleeps very deeply all the time. Sometimes I feel like he's trying to make up for lost time and that his body is finally getting the much needed uninterrupted/comfortable sleep that he has needed.
I also added another cat to my household back in the spring. It was originally just the boy cats - Gus and Canoe. But when I found out about another rescue, I wanted to add her to the pack. Although the boys get along great (took about three months for them to decide they liked each other, but once they did, they've been great buds), from the moment this female kitten entered Canoe’s life, he LOVED her. He wrestles with her several times a day which is something he doesn’t really want to do with Gus very often. She has made him so happy!
Lastly, the vet diagnosed him with a Grade 2 heart murmur. I had it checked out by a cardiologist, who even did an echocardiogram of his heart. No heart murmur at this time and his heart looks great!
I absolutely love this guy and I do believe he is very happy being a part of my family. And we are definitely happy he was able to join us. It almost didn’t happen as I was number four on the interested party list, once I was finally approved. Just proves he was meant to be with us.

Notes from Home
12/8/19 I can't believe it's been a year since our last update! Well what a year it's been. Asajj is a very happy and spoiled little lady! Our six pound girl runs the roost! In February we added a puppy to our family and Asajj had no problems at all with at the addition. When the puppy came with her foster for the first time, Asajj was following the pup around watching her every move. A one year old pup and 4 cats and our house is in harmony! It's wonderful and I love it! Asajj is the very first one to greet me at the door when I get home and she sleeps between my legs every night. She's the sweetest little thing with such sass! Oh I love her to pieces! And it's clear she loves us too! :)
12/7/18
Time flies when you're happy. And time is flying with our sweet Asajj! This little girl is confident in all she does and doesn't hold back with her opinions. She sleeps with me every night and likes to spy on me when I'm busy around the house. She gets a long great with the other cats and always wants to be in the center of all actives. One of my favorite things is coming home to her greeting me. She's always the first one I see when I open the door, waiting to get her proper greeting and love. Thanks again and again to all involved. I can't imagine life without my little punk Asajj.
7/16/18
I just had to update with a picture of Asajj and her buddies sitting on the couch (they were watching bird tv together until mommy distracted them for a photo). It's wonderful to watch them together. They play and relax like they've always known each other. And watching the two young girls, Asajj and Ahsoka wrestle and play together is such joy to any cat lover's heart.
6/14/18
We marked it on our calendar- last Friday night, Asajj and Ahsoka were chasing each other around the house and playing together! The girls have teamed up and on ready to take on the world! Asajj goes up to each of our cats and rubs against them. She is just so sweet!
Asajj sleeps with me every night and I couldn't be happier. She wants to be where the people and the action are! She truly has made herself a part of our family in every way possible. We love her so much and we are so happy she loves us back!
7/2/18 1 Month Adoption Anniversary!
I can't believe it's been a month since this sweet girl came into our lives! It's as if she's lived with us forever- she is that much a part of our lives! Our house would never be complete without Asajj. She has made herself 100% at home. Already spoiled, she lives quiet the life of play, love, eat, sleep and everything good in-between. And the attitude this little lady is showing! She's a special Siamese and she KNOWS it! We love how she lets her personality shine and does not compromise.
There is complete harmony in our four cat house. Asajj is one of the crew and there is no doubt the resident cats fully accepted her into their clowder. You can find Asajj running around the house chasing Ahsoka and then waiting for her to chase her back. These two girls are like litter sisters in how they play and interact with each other. John John, who is 18!, comes out of retirement to play with Da Bird with Asajj. And Sephiroth who is a bit of a lazy boy, has found that Asajj is the perfect napping buddy (after Ahsoka has tired her out).
Thank you everyone who brought Asajj into our lives. We are forever grateful to each and every one of you. And Belinda, thank you so much for fostering her! She is as amazing as you said she was. Thank you!
6/8/18
Asajj didn't waste a single second letting us know this is her home. She was crying at the door, and pawing at it when our resident cats where trying to get in. It was very clear that Asajj wanted to meet the rest of the pride. I listened to my gut and allowed them to meet. Two hisses, that's it. Out of a total of four cat we had two quick hisses. It's like Asajj has always lived with us. She now has the run of the house and is involved in all our actives. She quickly learned my call (I do a certain meow lol) when it's time for Fancy Feast and comes running with the rest of the cats! She also knows the treats call and gets right in on the action. She even sleeps in my room with the rest of the cats!
We are on Cloud 9! There is so much peace and happiness between the cats! Asajj and Ahsoka (our other young girl) play side by side but not together, yet. Our vet says it won't take long if they are already this comfortable with each other. Asajj rubs up against our two older boys, Sephiroth and John John, I think marking them as her own! lol. Thank you everyone involved! We are so happy!
We are so in love! What a love muffin!
Sabrina is now known as Asajj (the kiddos were excited to pick a name for our new family member and Sabrina/Asajj doesn't seem to mind) and she is one happy kitty!
From right out the carrier (after a 12.5 hour drive), this sweet girl used her litter box and was munching on Fancy Feast. It didn't take her long to investigate her new toys. And before long, she was giving us all loving! In under two hours, Asajj was lying on me, making muffins as we cuddled and watched a movie. She even fell asleep on me several times! When my daughter left the room, Asajj cried for her! It was the sweetest thing ever!
Thank you everyone!! We are so happy and blessed. We love Asajj so much and she has already made herself right at home. We are so lucky to be her forever family.

JOJO
Found on a golf course so my first foster mum named me PALMER! :)
Handsome, sweet, loving, playful, but also a bit timid and shy.
I'm going to need a patient adopter(s), a quiet home and another
sweet friendly young kitty that can show me everything is going to
be ok.
Purrs,
Palmer
Palmer becomes quite agitated in the carrier/car, so he would prefer a shorter vs longer transport distance.

Notes from Home
I wanted to update everyone on my sweet boy Jojo. He is amazing. So affectionate and loving, I get kisses from him every day. He literally wraps his gums around my wrist or leg or whatever he gets close to and pauses for a moment like he's giving me a little peck!. It is the sweetest thing! He also likes to give me head butts and if I bend over he jumps up and meets me with a loud purr.
He still tends to be cautious and runs when he hears unfamiliar noises or the doorbell, but he loves to play with ribbons and string. He is quite the hunter and catches any bug that finds its way into the house. He also loves to attack his favorite little plastic coil toys. He carries them around the house and loves to bat them around in the open. He even growls if his brother gets too close. It is not a very scary growl. It more like a sweet hum so its hard to take him very seriously. Even his growl is sweet!
His brother Chip is definitely the Alpha cat, but Jojo definitely gets his licks in when they wrestle. He loves food and meal times make him extra affectionate. He will often come up to me and twist his head almost completely up-side-down and look at me like, "aren't I adorable mom?" He makes me laugh. He's actually quite a character and very funny, but he only lets a few select trusted people see his true self.
I can't imagine life without him!
His is very healthy and his coat is beautiful. I have never felt a softer cat. Which means I am constantly petting him and giving him love!
His only health concern is some gingivitis, but it doesn't slow him down or keep him from eating.
He is currently sitting on the cushion behind me as I sit on the sofa watching me type. I think he knows I'm writing about him! I much prefer that to him climbing inside my Christmas Tree! It is an adventure he just can't resist!
It is dinner time so I best be off, but hopefully you have a better idea of how life is going for my sweet baby Jo!

JOLLY
UPDATE - 7/23/10 Pippin is: Cute, busy, CUTE, inquisitive, CUTE, active, CUTE, happy, CUTE, flame, CUTE, cross-eyed, CUTE, loving, CUTE and above all - you got it - TOO DARN CUTE FOR WORDS - better ask about him soon!!
Pippin here - foster mom says that I am cuter than any kitten has a right to be. She named me after Pippin, the youngest of the hobbits in the Lord of the Rings. (I think she's gone a bit overboard on all these literary foster names.) . I am one of the cutest little redheads that you've ever seen. When it comes to flames, they are usually easy going and laid back, but NOT ME. I am a "go getter" even though I am still a little small for my age. When I don't get my way - I'll tell you about it in NO uncertain terms. BUT, as you can see in my gallery pictures, I was such a good boy when Aunt Ellen was hold me and trimming my claws. I sat still and even kissed her after we were done. Oh, yes, my little face reminds everyone of an elf. And, yes, I have crossed eyes, but that doesn't stop me for a second. IF you'd like a very active and very cute and very sweet little kitten, be sure to ask about me. Here's to ya.......... Pippin,

Notes from Home
August 14, 2013
Getting less "tough skittish" and becoming somewhat of a cuddler. Still only wants his back petted and only when he wants it! Gets anxious most Monday mornings when I get out of the shower because he knows I'm leaving - sits on the toilet lid while I get ready and mews, jumps down, goes between my legs and repeats this process ad infinitum to remind me that I'd better come home. Still my guardboy and always within my sight range. His canned treat in the morning is a must! Plays well with Hattie and Bruce Wayne - but mostly keeps to himself and his jingle-y ball, as well as his racerball. Too busy making sure the world continues to spin on its access to do something as frivolous as chase either of Bruce Wayne or Hattie!
August 15, 2012
My Jolly-Man is still a bit aloof - but he is beginning to want to be touched! He is still my ever-present guardian - always near, always lurking, never more than arms-length from my side. He has been sleeping behind my knees and purring at my neck on my pillow on occasion. His favorite enthusiasm lately has been the glass shower door. I try to discourage this obsession - and most definitely the licking when there is hot water dripping on it - but he is fascinated......to the point of trying to get in while the water is running. I'm not sure if it's because he feels "cut off" from me even though he can see me through the door - or.....what? He LOVES his canned treat and he begs EVERY morning when we wake up - to the point of crying and kneading at my hip if I don't get out of bed as soon as the alarm goes off. Pavlov's dogs had nothing on this BIG FELLOW, and I do mean BIG. He is fine-boned-but sleek and large - very panther like - mostly white - with faint/pale traces of ginger. His eyes are not as crossed as they were as a kitten - but when he is tired, they drift off center more so than usual and he is truly cross-eyed to the fullest. Loves the tall cat tree and rules the roost from the uppermost carpeted bin - no one gets to this king of the hill!
July 13, 2011
My three musketeers are perfect ~ I thank the universe (and Siamese Rescue) every day for them. Jolly is my guard ~ not overly cuddly but always within arm's reach ~ follows me around, watches what is going on, nosing into everything, and making sure all is well. His job is to kill all insect intruders - especially any bugs that may get past the sliding glass doors. Hattie is my lovebug ~ cuddling and headbutting and dragging her pink "baby" toy around - up and down the stairs. The turboballracer is still her favorite. She sits in front of the sliding glass door screen on a chair (her throne) and dozes on and off watching the birds and chipmunks and thinking lovely thoughts. Bruce aka THE BRUISER is the one who keeps things interesting. Mischief usually starts and ends with him. His favorite spot is the kitchen window facing the backyard ~ he lays upside down with four paws in the air (looks dead some days) basking in the sun with a lazy eye blinking as birds flow by his head. Then he gets down and finds his brother and sister and disrupts their lives with a game of chase or ball or wrestling with a swift swat and run or a nip and roll ~ any way that he can to get things going!
Canned treat is given once a day ~ early in the morning ~ one can in two bowls to split amongst them. They usually nibble on and off until noonish and once it's gone ~ they don't beg until the next morning. Jolly is my only beggar for people food ~ and even then it's mostly what I call "Court Taster" ~ he's not interested in eating it, he just wants to know what I have, smell it, nibble at it and leave the nasty stuff alone. Not even a bit of sliced turkey! He turned around and went back to his dry food!
Bruce has started to get a new nickname THE RUNNER ~ yes, he wants to be OUTSIDE! NOW! I MEAN NOW! I'LL GET OUT THERE! NOW! So we have to be very, very careful. He hears any door open, shut, slide, or otherwise squeak and he's there lying in wait for the best moment to DASH, RUN, MAKE A BREAK FOR IT. This has only started since summer, and I'm hoping that winter will once again deter this behavior and give us at least a bit of a break for 6-7 months ~ the vigilance and worry are constant. But he's worth it!
Hattie actually shrinks away from outside. She has no desire to be part of whatever is out there. She is still "petite" and thoughtful. Her biggest claim to fame is loving to use the "clean" litterbox. I clean all three litterboxes every morning while my tea boils and she is the first one to jump in as soon as they are clean ~ EVERY MORNING. She closes her eyes and I swear she is smiling while she does her business.
Bruce is still an "enthusiastic" litterbox user ~ even to the point of covering the others' business before they are done. Yes, poor Jolly, doing business and Bruce is behind him covering it. Heh!
Jolly, my creamsicle shadow, is BIG. He is getting bigger than Bruce and I can't believe it. He is muscular and very "tiger" like ~ his shoulders and hips are broad and he is strong. His arms "roll" when he walks and he swaggers a bit like any good soldier who is tasked with defending the homefront. People remark on his good looks and I still get the "Didja know that cat's eyes are crossed?" Hmmmmm, I think so.....................
Everyone's healthy and happy ~ including me! Once again, I thank you from the bottom of my cat lady heart!!
Hey folks ~ Pippin has been given his forever name ~ Jalalabad ~ "Jolly" ~ to those who love him best! All is going great ~ he is the chowhound though! Begging for people food ~ even if he sniffs it and decides that it isn't to his palate. Sleeping with me ~ but has already comandeered my furry purple afghan (aka Grover) and that is his nest at night. He touches noses to greet me in the morning and when I come home from work and purrs whenever I pick him up! Loves his toys and his sister, Hattie. Going to vet on Tuesday (31st). He is growing ~ getting to be a big boy but still just a crazy and wild kitten who races and chases all over the place! Love and peace to all who brought him into my life.......
December 5 2019
Jolly - has become an old man - he wants to sleep - he wants to be left alone and find a corner of his own. But if he wants to chase and play, then it's time and he will chase and bother Hattie and Bruce no matter what.....but then just as quickly get tired of it and lay down. or find a dark closet and curl up until food time. He wants only one or two people in his life and he's not really interested in change or anything new - the curiosity has left the cat. He is very laid back and content in his ways - which is nice - he is very predictable and I am able to read "his mind" with most of his body language and noises. If I didn't have a husband, I would say that Jolly and I are like an old married couple.

HADDY
U{DATE - 7/23/10 - I LOVE my pink loa - can you see my stripes starting to come in on my face and legs.
UPDATE: Do you have a "pink palace"? I DO! And, I love to play in it either by myself or with my foster buddies Bilbo and Dart. Can you see how my lynx markings are starting to come in? I'm getting SO pretty.
Little angel kitten Cherub posing for my "glamour" shot!!I have an amazing story to tell you about me. I hope you enjoyed my tiny baby picture - it's now on the gallery with lots of others. You see, I was born to a stray mama who somehow lost me - someone found me and turned me into a shelter when I was about 2 1/2 -weeks old. The shelter staff tried to care for me for about a week, then a shelter foster mom tried for a little while longer, but I wasn't thriving. I needed a "mama cat". Through some incredible luck, I got transferred to another shelter where they had a nursing mama cat who would help me grow up. My second mama's name was Honey Bunn and she's the one if the pictures. When I met her, she immediately started taking care of me and let me nurse and nurse and nurse!! I was SO hungry and SO small. We were a great pair until Honey Bunn caught a cold and passed it to me. Oh, boy, I almost lost another life through that one because I was so stopped up I couldn't nurse and mama didn't have much milk when she was sick. BUT, with the help of Mama Katie, we all made it through. Now I am a very healthy, happy and growing kitten. I have the very long, lean body like most Siamese and have a lynx tail, lynx markings starting to come in on my legs and feet, but my ears are more flame colored - not sure what that's all about, but it sure makes me cute, cute, cute. I love to rough and tumble with other kittens and cats AND since I've always had a human mama, too, I love people. Be sure to look at my gallery pciture story, too. If you want a special angel in your life, remember to "ask about me "- Cherub. Purrs and headbutts.

August 14, 2013
Still tiny and sleek - I think she will always be my waif of a lady. Spends more time with Bruce Wayne when it comes to rough house as Jolly does not tolerate her playful nature, nor does he continue the chase even when she waps him on the butt and runs - she looks back and he doesn't bother to continue the game. But Bruce Wayne - he's a sucker for her kind of silliness - they roll and romp and even nip and chase up and down the stairs at a million miles per hour - much fun and then a nap in her orange cat bed. She does not care for canned treat and prefers the dry food still - and is a great hunter of bugs, especially the occasional fly that makes its way past the sliding glass door. Sitting on top of the cabinet staring at the corner where a spider may appear where it disappeared is a study in her patience. She loves EVERYONE who walks in the door and will rub against any and all who sit down in the house. She has no filter - whether or not you love cats - she loves you and rubs her head on your hand for pets and love. She is a human lover through and through - can't get enough of people - she greets me when I walk in the door and follows me around chirping and prancing while I am home.
August 15, 2012
Still a teeny little girl - still loves her human contact - can't get enough head butts and lap time - still number one bug killer! Even though her brother's drive her nuts - she is OCCASIONALLY into the craziness that is Bruce Wayne and Jolly - but more often than not, just wants to find her sunny spot and snooze or her human and love/cuddle. Still the poop-coverer for the universe - if someone poops and doesn't cover it, she's right there making sure the job gets done. Litterbox patrol. She also loves her black mitten - her pink baby feather thing (still!) which is somewhat tattered - and has no interest in the "nip." Her treats are pets and rubs - the occasionally gushy foods (canned treats) are less likely to lure her than a hug and kiss......

Sleeping with me ~ curled up behind my knees just like Katie said! Both follow me around ~ but she watches me intently, especially the hair dryer in the morning. Has only purred once, and I felt duly grateful that she had deigned to show such affection ~ once again, she is regal and entitled but attached to me at the hip ~ go figure! She sometimes touches noses to greet me in the morning and when I come home from work ~ only when she decides! Her tan stripes are darkening on her body (a faded tiger look) and she is growing ~ she is ALMOST catching up to her brother, Jolly. Auntie Sara joked that she may be taller than him ~ but never heavier. Her sleek lines and long neck make her graceful in a way that is truly worthy of her beauty. Loves her toys (especially the bop/wire thing) and definitely her brother, Jolly. Going to vet on Tuesday (31st). She has Jolly's cold ~ so just when he recovered, she got sick! Too much romping and kissing with him. Love and peace to all who brought her into my life...…
December 5 2019
Hattie is almost 10 years old and is still a small little lover - she is not only a lap cat, but is also a chest and head cat if you happen to be laying down. She is shy with others but only until she gets to know them and then she can't stop rubbing against their legs and arms. She can be jealous but tends to give in if one of the bigger boys wants to take over. She has only grown more graceful and beautiful as she has aged - and she STILL HAS pink friend - the raggedy pink toy she got from her foster home which she carries around with her from sleeping spot to sleeping spot. I have washed it with dish detergent and rinsed it many many time when it gets grimy - and she watches the process as though I was washing her child until it is done and laid on the counter to dry. she is a loving and devote little girl - who could ask for more?

Notes from Home
November 2019 - Daphne has now been with us 5.5 years. She's the bossy queen of the house, keeping us all in line. She is still shy with strangers in the house, tucking herself in one of her hiding spots. And she's still barely a lap cat - will seek out laps in the evenings, but startles easily. She shows some interest in getting under the covers at night, but only for a minute or so before sliding away. She's still pretty food motivated, but only her wet and dry food - she's curious about people food but unlike her brother Freddy turns her nose up at it. She's still mostly mute, which is so odd. She chirps but that's about it.
----------
Thanks for sending anniversary reminders. Daphne has now been with us for four years. It took a while, but as of this past fall she's officially a lap cat and will seek out laps in the evening to have a short snooze. She is still mostly mute, although she does chirp greetings. She loves to play and very much enjoys sitting in the windows watching squirrels and birds, or climbing on our stairway railings and posts to perch above us all. She also stalks our basement and is quick to catch any errant crickets that make their way indoors. She's fairly shy, and will tuck herself away when gusts come visit, though somehow she figures out when they're leaving and will make an appearance just to make sure they all make it out the door. Overall she's just simply a great addition to the family. Thanks!!
________
It's hard to believe Daphne (nee Alyson) has been with us for over 6 months! She is really a fun kitty, always into things. She is a quiet Siamese - she'll chirp hello to me, and she purrs before being fed, but otherwise keeps mostly to herself. She and Freddy (nee Gucci) have bonded beautifully and spend a lot of time galloping about the house having fun. Daphne is not a huge fan of our 12 pound Westie - Daphne tolerates skipper, but won't allow Skipper to get too close, and she won't play with Skipper as Freddy does. Daphne has adopted me as her person- she sleeps at the foot of my bed and tends to want to be closer to me, though she is not a lap cat at all. She's had some eye trouble - a couple of eye infections and the vet is suggesting perhaps an ongoing condition, so we're giving her some nutritional supplements and working to keep her immune system strong. Although she still is very interested in her wet food, and pushes Freddy out of the way to get at his wet food, she remains sleek and looks like she'll keep her girlish figure. She's a real joy!

FREDDY
Woo Hooooo.... What a delectable treat I am!
What a precious, sweet, gentle little fellow! Still a little overwhelmed by the changes in his life, but making progress though it is baby steps. He loves to be pet, scratched, massaged and snuggled. A little unsure when picked up, but when held securely and snuggled he nuzzles in to my neck and purrs. Getting braver about the "scary" toys as long as they don't go ding-a-ling. lol
He will need a confident, outgoing, friendly female cat or kitten to help him adjust and show him the joys of an inside life.
Puuuurrrrrsssss and meows, (He is vocal! :))) )
Gucci
Update 3/19/14 Major break through! He is playing with a wand toy and energetically using the scratching post on the cat tree! He's no longer in his bed all the time, but up on the tree and the window sill. He meows and comes to me now instead of waiting for me to go to him! Great progress for a kitten who had such big changes in his life only a week ago!
05/19/14 Born under a shed and now completely acclaimated and loving being a pampered indoor kitten. Loving all the attention and cuddles he can get and playing with every toy available. He's so ready to go home and be with his furrever family!

Notes from Home
At long last, I'm finally doing an update. Freddy (nee Gucci) didn't entirely have a smooth transition into our household. The story of him worming his way into our air conditioning vents will live a long life in our family. But he's settled in and made his home with us. Freddy has decided his person in our family is mostly our 9 year old girl, though he does also enjoy cuddling with our soon to be 6 year old boy. Freddy has turned out to be a slightly goofy teenager - he gallops around the house, chasing and being chased by our dog Skipper or his pal Daphne (nee Alyson). Yesterday he spent 5 minutes chasing our 12 pound dog to one side of the house, only to turn around and be chased back to the other side, a fun game of interspecies tag. He likes to hang out on the window ledge of my daughter's room, hiding behind the curtain and peeping his head around when someone enters the room. He loves cuddles, and sometimes my daughter complains he keeps her up at night when he cuddles up with her and starts kneading in her hair, then nosing at her hands to pet him. He is really happy in her arms - just totally relaxes as she carts him around and puts him in various roles in her games. We did have to try to break him of his decision to run ahead of you when you're coming down the stairs - he'd lay on the step just below your foot and seemed entirely unconcerned about the foot that was going to land on him. But after some nudging on our part he's figured out stairs are the best places to get petted. We have several cat trees around the house and he loves to sit in them, and use his claws to snag your pants as you walk by. But he's still just sort of goofy - the other day I went to pet him in the low perch of the cat tree, and he tried to roll onto his side, but rolled completely out and fell onto the floor! He is on and off interested in his wet food, but loves the dry, and he's very accommodating when Daphne pushes him out of the way so she can get at his discarded wet food. Now that I've figured out the updating, I'll try and get some good pics- he is not so into posing!
November 2019 - an update after quite some time. We have a lot of fun with Freddy. He's still most bonded with our now-14-year-old daughter. He also still gallops around the house, and likes to play with our westie. His main trick is appearing next to the dinner table, then reaching out one paw, extending one claw, and tagging you on your thigh or rear end, all in an attempt to get a little bite of chicken or something good. Weekend mornings he lurks around the kitchen hoping for bacon. It is hard to turn him down. He's big - 12 pounds now - so we need to pair treats with more exercise. He loves to play, but he is not a lap cat. He loves to be snuggled by his person, and sleeps with her every night, insisting on pets and cuddles. But for the rest of us he enjoys being petted and spoiled, but won't choose to cuddle with us. He has always insisted on fresh water and we were refreshing his water bowl two or three times a day but finally got a flowing water fountain and he loves it - will sit and watch it before drinking. :last summer we pet sat for a snake and he was VERY interested and hung out by the snakes cage all the time. And he still cries his little baby meows.

Notes from Home
GIA has been renamed to Java. Why? Because she is bold, smooth and is many beautiful colors of rich browns and she reminds me of a cup of good coffee. Silly but true. She is doing great here in her new home. The dog loves her and the other cat is slowly accepting her. She isn't much of a lap cat but loves to snuggle in bed with me for a good night's sleep. She loves to dash around the house and play with toys. Her stomatitis is good right now and she is eating well. We will keep a close eye on her eating to watch for indications of problems. Java is a fabulous kitty and we are very blessed to have her.
It's been six months and Java is now one of the family. Both dog and cat have totally accepted her although there may be an occasional hiss from my male cat. She has picked up a couple pounds so she's rounded out a bit. So far she has had no problems with her stomatitis. My fingers (and toes) are crossed. Maybe she will be lucky and not have to have any additional teeth pulled. I have a nickname for her...it's crackhead. LOL Once in a while she will just decide to tear off and run down the hallway and hide under the bed. She waits for me to come get her and then she runs out from under the bed back down the hall so I chase her again. It's as if she gets a shot of adrenaline running through her and has to do something with all that energy. She is really an amazing kitty. She now sits on our laps and loves getting her head rubbed. We couldn't have asked for a sweeter cat.
10/11/17 - Happy Anniversary! We have had Java for a year now and she is amazing. She sleeps with me every night and our other cat has fully accepted her. She eats well and has had no problems with her stomatitis. I have put a few pounds on her just in case she stops eating but so far so good! My fingers are crossed that she never has to go through that again. She still loves to play and will even initiate play with the dog. Of course, he wants nothing to do with her at his age. :) She is happy and will be with us forever. Thank you SCRC.
11/15/19 Sad to say Java had to be put down. She had severe intestinal problems that we dealt with for many months. Vet visits, tests and numerous prescription foods didn't help...she threw up everything. She lost so much weight it broke my heart. I know she is in a much better place now but the house is empty without my meezer. Time to start looking for 1 or 2 more!!

QUINCY
I have been here with foster mom for awhile and still waiting for my very own home. I would be a great companion for other kitties as long as they are not bullies. I get along fine with all of the other fosters and even play with some of the kittens.
The reason I have been here so long is that I am afraid of strangers and hide. If someone would give me a chance and have patience, I would be a nice companion. I do not have any bad habits and am a sweet gentle natured girl. I get rowdy and play with toys and sometimes am a lap kitty. Lucy

Notes from Home
Lucy had an uneventful trip to Maryland and endeared herself to her new family and new Vet's office staff with her gentle stoicism and and occasional nervous lip-licking. She is settled into her "safe room" here at home and has already chosen her favorite bed, the one that requires us to lie on the floor and reach over our heads to pet her. Naturally. But she rolls her head around so we can reach all the good spots, so she's a good sport about it all.
We had to rename her because Lucy is the name of our dearly departed, best-dog-ever, black lab-Irish setter. There can only be one Lucy per family. So not to mock physical attributes by any means, but more to celebrate her special uniqueness, we've decided our five-toed polydactyl should be: Quincy. If we don't clearly enunciate, we can sort of make it sound like Lucy anyway. Quincy Raven Sanders
because she will be a football fan, and Joe Flacco's jersey is 5. After all, Siamese-sibling Mojo Flacco Sanders enjoys following the team and we expect hope she'll follow his lead.
So happy to have her home with us!
2 weeks later: Quincy is doing very well. She still prefers to spend most of the time in her room, but we join her quite a bit and she's very quick to scamper over for some back scratches and tummy rubs. I have never had a cat who likes tummy rubs like she does! She nudges my hand if I stop! She's a non-stop purr machine, but I have yet to hear her meow. I'm sure when she has something important to say, she will say it. She is exploring the adjacent rooms and hallways and I expect her to want the run of the house before too long.
One month update: Quincy thinks Mojo is a rock star. She seems totally devoted to him, running to greet him, rubbing against him, curling up on or beside him to sleep. If he meows, she chirps right back. He is less enchanted, although he allows her full run of the lower level and is just starting to let her up to the first floor. If he chases her away, she remains on the top step and tries again and again. They do play together - or at least side by side - when I get the toys out and since Quincy is the most playful, most enthusiastic and most acrobatic cat I've had in years, it has brought out a more playful side of Mojo as well. She purrs non stop while she plays, which I find very cute. She is willing to spend more and more time with my husband and son, too. We think she's doing very well.
August, 2012: Six months already? We've heard her meow! She's such a dainty little fine boned cat, but LOUD! She meows loudly when she finds herself alone in a room and wants to find out where everyone went. She mutters under her breath non-stop when she prowls around looking for her next nap stop. She chatters to speed things up when waiting impatiently for dinner to be portioned out and delivered. She stands on her rear legs, front legs on our laps, and cries mournfully for a treat. She also has a very very loud purr, one that can be heard from across the room. We love that. Not to mention her big, heavy, clomping feet. She sounds like a pack of dogs running up and down the stairs! We get the biggest kick out of our "little lady" who sounds like a football player!
She has occasionally jumped up next to me and cuddled, and once shocked herself by actually landing directly on my lap! She is still warming up to the idea, but is very comfortable coming up and asking (loudly) for head scratches. She follows us from room to room and knows our routine from minute to minute. Mojo still tries to run her off, but she's undaunted and is wearing him down; they spend more and more of their time together without problems. She's still very skittish when company comes, but has started to check people out more and more.
She is still very very playful and acrobatic. She's been a good influence on Mojo, who rarely played with anything before she got here - now he runs to join in the fun. We're very glad to have her.
February 4, 2013. Quincy is very affectionate and the most playful cat I've ever had. She gets into everything! During the night she likes to pull coasters out of their holder and we find them all over the house. She loves to tear around the house chasing toys, she's a riot. She crawls into bed with me every morning, once she's convinced I'm not ready to get up and fix breakfast. She's a very entertaining kitty.
February 4, 2014. Quincy remains affectionate and extremely playful. She loves to leap into the air to catch the "cat dancer" toy…we have them all over the house. She follows me where ever I go, she's my little shadow. She has also gotten much braver with my husband; he's been "allowed" to brush her and play with her at times. Quincy loves the fact that I still must lie down most of the day, and am therefore always providing the opportunity to snuggle. I appreciate the company. Final trick: she comes when I call her name. We've tested this many times. I've never had a cat who came running (without the sound of a can of cat food being opened).
June 25, 2014 Quincy just returned from her yearly vet exam with rabies shot. The vet did a double-take, rechecking her chart because she just couldn't believe Quincy's age based on the condition of her coat, the brightness of her eyes, and her trim figure. She said Quincy could pass for a 3 or 4 year old cat! (I've said all along that she's by far the most acrobatic and playful cat I've ever had.) Quincy was not mollified by the compliments and continued to complained loudly until we got in the car to return home. But she's on my lap now - she doesn't hold a grudge. Such a sweetie.
2/17/15 On the eve of her 12th birthday, Quincy remains the apple of our eye(s). Cuddly, loudly purring, she keeps me company night and day. Getting a little braver when visitors come over - at least family - because she cautiously creeps over to sniff their stuff when she thinks we're all in a different room.
2/4/16 I can't believe it's been four years since we brought our shy little kitty home! Quincy is still slim, healthy and acrobatic with a beautiful, glossy coat and perfect teeth. She's incredibly playful and keenly aware of the time of day, staring down the door to the toy closet when it's time to bring out her beloved wand toys. (The loud, squeaky toys are reserved for middle of the night......with those big, 5-toed feet of hers, she sounds like a herd of buffalo galloping through the house! It unnerves guests trying to sleep. Again, part of her grand plan.) She also sits beside her cat brush and stares me down when she hears me getting ready for bed.
Last night was a first. She jumped up on the sofa to claim her customary spot on my lap, but found me juggling both a computer and a book. I expected her to curl up beside me, but instead she walked over and took a test spin around and around my husband's lap and settled there! My husband was so shocked he was afraid to move a muscle, but eventually dared to stroke her and scratch her head and she purred. She stayed with him for several minutes, to our shock and awe. Knowing how much she sticks to schedules, it's apparent she'd planned all along to start cuddling with him after a four year warm up period.
Today is Quincy's 5 year anniversary! It's a stressful phase for her right now as we're in the process of moving from our 3 story house- with several hiding places on each level - to a 2 BR apartment. So far she's only found one safe place to hide. But she's getting braver, exploring a little more each day, and spends the night cuddled up beside me in bed. She's a resilient old girl! We love her so much.
February 27, 2017 - Quincy's 14th birthday (I use the date on the veterinarian's notes from her first home) and she's as loving and playful as ever. A few weeks ago we downsized from a 3 story house with lots of hiding places on each floor, to a 2 BR condo with little furniture (more to come later) and I worried about Quincy's reaction to an alien environment. She's done very well, no signs of stress although I'm sure she'd rather be back at the house. But she was willing to cuddle with me right from the start. She's such a sweetie.
In tears as I write that Quincy died October 17, 2019. (cancer) She was loving and devoted right up to her last day. She was my shadow, day and night. She even came to trust my husband and would snuggle between the two of us on the sofa every evening. I loved her more than I can even express and will miss her forever.
