I am sorry that I did not formally report that CLAYTON --VA11957 is now known as SAKI (or honey, baby, pretty boy,or any other name that suiits the situation). I took him with me to visit my sister in Florida from our home in Connecticut on a plane and he behaved so beautifully that I think we will go other times. The trip is only a bit more than two hours, and he didn't make a sound, beside entertaining a few fractious children! He sleeps with me in a king size ,but if I lift my head to check anything,he is delighted to curl quickly into the warm spot where my head rested on the pillow and tell me in no uncertain terms to get another pillow. He still thinks that if I get up at three in the morning,it is time for his breakfast.

The year with SAKI has been a pure pleasure. Sincerely, Janice

PRINCE
I'm back in foster care and looking for a new home where I can get LOTS of attention. I'm a super loving guy who wants to be with people as much as possible but other cats are not so fun. I LOVE to eat treats and will do my best to find them wherever they are. I can even get myself on the tip top shelf nearly at ceiling level! If you're looking for a playful cat who will keep you on your toes then ask about me because I'm ready to be yours!

Prince is doing awesome! We love him so much.. He is a total lap cat, loves drinking from the faucet, and greeting us at the door when we come home. He is sweet and vocal. A perfect fit.

BRUCE
Looking for a miniature white tiger look alike? Please find me a home with another cat who is young enough to appreciate a good wrestling buddy. I am not aggressive, but am a strong wrestler. My buddy right now is a 12 pound resident snowshoe, who is a good match for me!
My litter box habits are immaculate, and I use a cardboard scratching mat or a sisal cat tree to sharpen my claws. I am very healthy, and will most likely grow into a strong, active adult cat. I would be an excellent companion for your cat during the day while you are gone, and will not get in the way of your relationship with your resident cat.
I came into foster care very frightened, but would purr when pettted. Now, I follow foster mom everywhere she goes, and love for her to pet me and reward her with purrs. I am no longer just a cat's cat, but both people and cat's cat!

I know it has been a while since my last update, my apologies!
Bruce (Lonnie) is doing amazing. He has adjusted so well to his new environment and new family. He sleeps at my feet every night and makes sure to wake me up every morning so I know he’s ready for breakfast lol. He is the sweetest baby boy, always the first to pur as soon as he gets the slightest bit of attention. As you can imagine, having two young boys running around has me not far behind cleaning up all the messes they create, but the relationship Bruce and Batman have is all I could ever ask for. They are best friends.
Thank you again Sandra and all who were involved. This has been the greatest experience.

ASHLEY
Hi there,

I've been here for four months and would love to be home for my sweet 16...if not before. I long for a nice calm place to enjoy. I could live with another laidback, easy going cat or two just fine. I don't need anyone to boss me around, chase me through the house, or try any shenanigans with me.

My healthy is purrfect and I am well past the kitten stage now so you can keep the lacy curtains up and fancy rugs out. I know what's important in life too like you and me under the mistletoe. Wait - that season is over. How about you and me with hot candy kisses? Just keep thinking of you and me...me and you.

Love, Ashley Marie

Notes from Home
March 20, 2018 It is with a heavy heart that I write to say we lost our sweet Ashley last week. Ashley suffered massive kidney failure which had been masked by the medicines she was taking for high blood pressure and a thyroid condition. She was a delightful member of our family for the two years she was with us. She taught us to appreciate each day with her. Our fondest memories include her elevated rump whenever she was petted and scratched at the base of her tail, her determined nightly meows to take inventory of her people and her incredible fondness for bathtub water after we had showers. I hope that she enjoyed our home and us as much as we did her.

It's been over a year since Ashley joined our home and we are happier and noisier because of it! She lives on our bed during the day when we are out and sleeps on the heated bathroom floor during chilly nights. She loves to purr and sit on my lap when I am not near Maisie the puppy. Alas Maisie and Ashley have never bonded. I speculate this is in part to her being declawed in the front so she can't swipe a paw and show who is boss. Life is good though since we have an invisible fence in the house which prevents the dog from accessing the upstairs. Ashley takes her food on the stairs while the dog watches and she roams free if she wants during the evenings when the dog is in her crate.

The big social news for Ashley is that she is completely bonded with our eldest daughter. When she is home from school Ashley can be found parading around her room, sitting on her bed and purring extra loudly. When she goes back to school Ashley roams in and out of her room meowing at a high volume.

Thanks to Siri's suggestion, Ashely is now taking meds for her Thyroid. We were concerned she might have kidney problems masked by the thyroid but so far so good. Our vet thinks she is in great shape considering her age and believes we will have her for many years to come. We are a lucky family to have found such a wonderful old lady. Thank you to all who cared for her and transported her to bring us together.

2/14/2018
Happy Gotcha Day to our sweet little Ashley. While her name is technically still Ashley I like to call her Kit Ca (because she's so sweet)t. We went to the vets the other day and were told she likely can't hear much or see much any more. No glaucoma just old eyes with a problem in her iris'. Ashley now has high blood pressure in addition to the thyroid issue so she is now on two meds. She had her blood/urine work done since she is taking in more fluids and losing weight. She gets plenty of dry and wet food but only weighs 4.5 pounds! She has some dental problems with her front teeth, which likely make it hard to eat but the vet is worried that with her kidneys in not great shape the surgery to remove the teeth would be too hard on her. She is getting more loving and bold in her old age. She now comes down stairs to torment the dog at night and still can jump into the tub to lick some fresh water each morning after the shower. She purrs like crazy and loves belly rubs. I can't begin to thank this organization for making her a part of our furrever family.

I am your typical flame guy, pretty laid back although I do love to wrestle and play with the 2 other kittens I came into rescue with. I am a bit uncertain in new situations, but given time, I make myself right at home. So ask about me if you want a handsome mellow flame boy.

LIESEL
I'm super friendly, want to follow you everywhere and show you how much I love you and I'm still here? It must be that I'm looking for the perfect home, maybe with a woofer, but other cats are scary. I much prefer laps and attention to pretty much anything else, so if you're looking for a cat who will let you know how much you are loved all the time - I'm your girl!

Send an email if you think that might work for you!

ISIS
Don't you need a lap warmer in this chilly weather? If you do, I'm your gal because I simply adore laps and belly rubs!

Foster Mom says there is absolutely nothing not to like about me. She says I'm a treasure.

Oh and don't let my age scare you. I passed my blood test with flying colors. No sign of any problems whatsoever.

I am all ready to go home!

Notes from Home
It’s been a year since Isis came home! Isis continues to bring us joy each and every day. She just had her bi-annual check-up and her blood work came back perfect. Besides scheduling a dental cleaning, she has been given a perfect bill of health. Everyone at our Vet’s office loves her and refers to her as the perfect patient. At this point we believe she is around 11ish years old. She is Queen of the Castle and continues to roam the entire house as she pleases, happy as can be. We believe she purrs even louder than her big brother, Tobra, which is quite a feat. She can often be found in my lap (or on my keyboard) while I work, snoozing in a dog bed, lounging on the loveseat with our dog Dunkin, curled up in one of our laps watching television or snuggling under the covers with us at night. She has no fear of either of our dogs and interacts with them often. She still LOVES to play and will play with your hand, a cat toy, a dog toy, a dog’s tail, a sock, a shoe – you name it, it’s game for being playfully smacked. Her jumping abilities continue to improve. Her love for all things food has not diminished and she knows pretty much precisely when it’s breakfast and dinner time and has no problem reminding us should we forget. We initially wanted to adopt a younger cat since we lost our two Siamese loves 6 months apart at 17 and 19 years old and couldn’t bear the thought of losing another. I am happy to say without reservation that we are SO grateful and happy that we adopted an older kitty. We love Isis dearly and can’t imagine having brought any other cat into our home and family. She is the sweetest, funniest, most loving cat and we will cherish and care for her the rest of her life. I continue to encourage anyone and everyone to adopt older cats (and dogs) as they are such a joy. They often get passed over due to fear of health problems and financial commitments which is very unfortunate as they still have so much love to offer. Isis has an endless amount of love to offer and we are very lucky, indeed.

Isis is doing wonderfully on her 2-year adoption anniversary. She’s such a love bug and we love her dearly. I think she is loving her home in Vermont. We lost our kitty, Tobra, a few months ago. She and Tobra were’t buddies, but they got along just fine and in her own way I think she misses him. She really is the Queen of the Castle now as the only kitty in the house. We joke that she has found her ‘Inner Siamese Voice’ in the last few months as she is suddenly very talkative and loud. She was always talkative but in a very quiet and demure way. Not anymore, she is showing her true Siamese colors now! :) She is our alarm clock…. sitting on our chest or heads and meowing in our face by 6:30am every morning for her breakfast. She is relentless and will literally meow at us for an hour (I tested her once on this, she won!) if she has to. She just had her bi-annual check-up a few weeks ago and her bloodwork came back perfect. Our vet thought she might be on the verge of being hyper-thyroid but she isn’t, which is great news. Thank you so much for bringing her into our lives. Adopt seniors - they are the best!

I cannot believe that Isis has been with us for three years! She is sleeping by my side as I type this and I couldn't love her more. She continues to be in excellent health and navigates stairs, chairs, leaps and bounds with no problems. She is still good buddies with the pups, sharing the couch with them daily along with the bed, dog beds, etc. My Dad passed last September and when I came back home at the beginning of November I brought his 18 year old kitty, Hunter, with me. Hunter is a super chill cat and so is Isis so I wasn't overly concerned about them not getting along, with slow and proper introductions... but I didn't think they would become friends either. In a very short amount of time they proved me wrong and I couldn't be more thrilled for both of them. They sleep side by side and follow each other around half the day - it's hysterical. One jumps on the couch, so does the other; one drinks some water, so does the other; one scratches their claws, so does the other. The newest development in the last month or so is that Hunter loves to wash Isis at every opportunity and she lets him. She has yet to return the favor but she seems to genuinely enjoy being groomed by him. The three things that Isis seems to have reserved for herself is being the resident lap cat, helping me work at my desk during the day and snuggling with me under the covers at night. She has been outgoing from the start but she's even more outgoing now when there are other people here at the house... she loves attention and is the biggest lovebug. (I'm uploading a few but you can find some pictures and a video or two of her on Instagram at #isislovebug)

I’m a bit late in posting Isis’s 4-year adoption anniversary update but she’s doing great! I didn’t think it was possible but she’s become even more outgoing, talkative and loving this past year. She and Hunter are absolutely adorable and she’s decided to finally (!!) return the favor of washing him like he does her. They greet each other and she puts her head down first, he washes it. Then he puts his head down and she washes it, then they give each other mini baths all day long :). They continue to follow each other around and join in whatever the other is doing. They can most often be found snuggling together on the loveseat in the living room or in one of the cat/dog beds in the same room or in my office. It warms my heart as Isis was the cat who was not only looked over by many people for so long, but was initially assessed, I believe, as preferably being adopted into a home with no other cats because she was so timid. I love that she is completely out of her shell and has become an outspoken, confident and sweet Siamese! Her health continues to be great for her age. She needed two more teeth removed this past year but recovered quickly and has been on a ‘dental diet’ for quite some time. She is on a liquid arthritis med as she absolutely refuses to take a pill or powder – it doesn’t matter what form it’s in or how it’s delivered… if it’s medicine she knows it and she will not cooperate no matter what. She hates taking the liquid as well and probably gets about half of what she should, but I’ve come to realize it’s better than nothing. She is still getting around very well, however, and can easily jump, tackle stairs, etc. Her newest discovery is water in a cup. She is obsessed and if she sees a glass or cup on the coffee or side table she is sticking her head in it trying to lap it up. She’s relentless and absolutely on a mission when she sees one! So all in all she’s doing awesome and I believe she is very happy and knows she is beyond loved.

Wow, 5 years and so much has changed in Isis’s world. She lost her buddy Hunter… he had kidney disease which he was being treated for but eventually I came to realize he was headed downhill very quickly and I made the decision to say goodbye to him before he truly started to suffer. He was my Dad’s cat and was at least 20 years old. I know Isis misses him greatly… they grew so close and loving with each other – it was like witnessing a mini miracle.  Since Hunter passed, Isis also lost my Aruban rescue dog, Dunkin (I found him outside of a Dunkin Donuts in Arangestead), who she knew and loved since her adoption. Dunkin and Isis shared a close friendship and could often be caught snuggling just about anywhere in the house. When I was initially deciding to adopt Isis my vet (and everyone else who knew me) said to me “Karen, maybe you should consider adopting a younger cat.” They said this because I lost my two Siamese love bugs Fallon and Gabbey within 6 months of each other… at 18 and 20 years old. I was devastated and it took me a LONG time to look for another Siamese to adopt. Once I found Isis I knew it was meant to be but those who care about me didn’t think it was a great idea to adopt a cat who was at least ten years old.  Obviously I didn’t listen to them! The night our vet came to our home to euthanize Dunkin, Isis laid down with him in his special spot, the large doggie bed in my office. She laid down facing him with her paw about a centimeter from his and purred and watched the entire process of saying goodbye to him. It was so heartwarming and touching, it just added to the tears we all had flowing. My vet kept saying how she was so sorry that she urged me not to adopt Isis and that she is obviously the Perfect Kitty. This past summer my ex step-mother asked me if I would take her kitty MC. Before they were divorced MC was my Dad’s cat as well but MC went with her after the divorce. Of-course I couldn’t say no. I did a slow introduction between him and Isis and they are ok with each other but they are definitely NOT buddies, at least not yet. But Isis is no longer the timid cat who hides in the corner. She puts MC in his place when need be. They don’t have crazy fights but they’re not friends! Overall she’s doing wonderfully and she is so loved.

UPDATE: I'm getting along great with everyone here! Foster mom says if I can get along with these cats, I can handle just about anything. I've also purrfected all my housecat manners and even listen when the foster beans tell me "no." I'm a very loving and playful young man seeking a home with another playful cat or kitten. I'm a good-sized boy who would probably do well with kids who have cat experience. Each night, I sit on the bean's lap while she reads e-mail, and I'm surprised that I don't see you asking about me. WILSON
I'm finally adjusted to all the changes and happy here in my foster home. I am shy - well, let's say slow to warm up. Once I do, I love attention and am very needy, but initially I will stay under the bed unless you get down on the floor to coax me out. I get along with other cats who are nice to me, but really are not interested in playing with them. Dogs? Not fond of them. LIttle children would probably scare me. I am just as beautiful in real life as my pictures - my body fur is short and silky, and I have a wonderful plume of a tail! I use my litter box like a good boy, and just love to be up high. A nice quiet home would suit me best and I need an adopter who understands that I am a sensitive, gentle soul.

he is wonderful; and in just two weeks he is settled happily and a wonderful pet!

04/05/17 update: Garbanzo is now named Willie short for Wilson, and, he is just an amazing wonderful boy. He is friends with my rescue girl Bella and they race and play; every room in our house is full of cat toys as if several sets of active twins live here!

He has wonderful habits, is very, very loving, and is truly beginning to trust and establish his routines while he fits into ours.
Just a true gem; seems like he's been here much longer than three weeks. He really has livened up this house and added lots of happiness!

04/11/17 update; Garbanzo is now named Willie ( Wilson ) as it totally suits his silly personality. He is wonderful in all regards and gaining more and more confidence and trust daily. He has settled in very quickly and loves his roommate Bella; they play all day and are great friends. I couldn't be happier to live with this great fellow! David Harris

09/11/2017 Six month update. Willie fka Garbanzo, is doing great. He is also called Wilson, Silly Willie Wilson and Willie the Weasel; he is a 'glass half full' fellow every minute of his day and a wonderful 'son'. He loves his house, his rescue girlfriend Bella, and he seems to have lived here forever. He is full of fun, full of love, and always full of himself; he is a true clown and happy every minute! Perfect, perfect manners and behavior; fun sense of humor and fully involved in anything going on; just perfect in all ways. He knows the house routines and and has his own habits which are all great. LOVE him totally and he clearly loves being here.

Willie is a constant shadow; as I am retired and home all day, he is right by my side no matter what I'm doing. Closed doors are his only 'enemy' (indoors; he is not a outdoor door darter at all); he will find a way to get them open! Either by opening them himself or pleading pitiifully to have me do it; he is endlessly curious and finds his greatest joy when he has a new paper ball to chase. The house is filled with hundreds of paper balls; and, he brings them with him to bed, to watch tv, and loves to bring them out on the screened porch
.
He really is just without any politics or issues; he is the happiest cat I've known and he is GOOD. Smart, gorgeous, and he is so proud of his incredible coat and 15 inch long bushy tail! He trots ahead of me or Bella waving that tail like a marching band member; and nothing makes him happier than being brushed.
For a long haired cat, Willie sheds the least I've ever seen; and his fur is absolutely like silk; the softest and most handsome coat a cat could have.

Bella and I just love him and know we hit the lottery when his foster mom Jackie in PA arranged this match made in heaven.
I thank Jackie, Susan Rego, Siri and each one of the SRescue transporters every day for taking such wonderful care of this boy and for all the efforts to find him his true forever home.

And, a special thanks to the wonderful lady who originally saved him in New Jersey when he was found lost; I know it must have been a heartbreak to let him be adopted and move away, but, he is more loved than ever and is 100% perfect for us and 100% happy here where he is safe, and has everything he needs. His health is incredible, NO issues, and I can't stress how perfect he is with behavior and habits. Just a delight!

Oh, and, Willie is the first cat I've had who takes care of his own teeth; yep! He has several crocheted yarn fish I buy from the Rescue Store; after he eats, he immediately chews on his 'fish' to thoroughly clean his teeth. I mean, he does this EVERY time he eats and he clearly knows this is an important habit; it is amazing to watch and I hope SRescue keeps making those as he pretty well goes through one every month or so! No wonder his vet exam in PA rated his teeth as number 1 condition; gorgeous white teeth; so funny that he maintains them himself!

Thanks to all; I love him and couldn't be happier FOR him that he is here; Bella has always made me smile with pride and Willie just makes both she and I smile even more!

Thanks from Willie the Weasel; he is one happy little camper every single day!!

David Harris ( and Bella), Mooresville, NC

March 18, 2018. Wilson has been here one year this month, and, has really turned into the most amazing animal. He is extremely smart, has perfect manners and behaviors, is healthy, and has a sunny and happy attitude every minute. He permits all kinds of holding, cuddling, and affection, and, never gets any attitude. He is just a smart, happy, and very well balanced boy. He LOVES playing fetch, and, also his deer hair wand toy from Chewys. He has hundreds of paper balls hidden away and will bring one or two to drop at my feet when he wants to fetch; which is at least twice a day. Every night he expects to get serious play time with his deer hair mouse on a wand, and, goes to the table drawer where it is kept. He will stare at the drawer, then at me, and will even wiggle the drawer handle if I don't respond. He is always eager and keeps to this schedule, but, is very patient until I 'wise up' and open the drawer. He gets so excited he dances around and assumes his alert position ready to play full speed and jump three or four feet in the air chasing that mouse; he keeps time better than a clock and knows just when to expect food, sleep, playing, and, completely follows my daily routines. He is a treasure and has become even more handsome; his fur and 15 inch long tail are his pride. He is like touching silky rabbit fur and sheds very, very little. He and Bella are good friends and both bring hours of fun and love every day.
A very special thank you to all who worked to get him here on a long transport; it was worth every bit of effort as he is treasured here and is the happiest cat I've ever lived with; he often walks up to me and stretches up my leg demanding head kisses; he just likes to do that for no reason and has truly bonded here with me and Bella. What a success story for him when his beginnings were so dire; like all rescues, his little life was and still is precious and worth every bit of hard work every one in Rescue delivers. SCRC Virginia is just the very best!
Thank you for bringing this special boy to his forever home!
