Notes from Home
Well it took the full 6 months for 12yr old Jemima to accept Baboo. He was very patient and gentlemanly, deferring to her all the time, and now stands his ground when she tries to intimidate him. Its a starring contest now only. No more growling and hissing by her, she shares the food, the sunny lanaii but not my lap. They even play chase and call each other to play. Sometimes Jemima can be very moody and if passing him makes a swipe at him? But she has her moods, i feel she has prevented Baboo from bonding much with me as she is glued to my side, lap etc. though he is not much for petting or brushing or holding, he perks up when i have visitors and hangs with them. Jemima has made it clear to him that she possesses me. Any suggestions?
I am still trying every brand of wet foods with pure meats or fish, no grain or ash. He is extremely fussy. Jemima eats everything. He will eat the dry if doesn,t want the wet at least. He might gobble a whole can one time , so i buy a supply then he won,t touch it again. Strange.
I am trying to introduce some petting and brushing gradually. Took him to a groomer who brushed out a lot of hair, bathed and clipped his toenails. Guess they had several people to hold him. All in all he is a good boy and welcome addition to my fmly. Sleeps in my closet at nite , used to come up on my bed but i guess Jemima has made that off limits for him too. I feel they are good company for each other when i am not home and hop

Notes from Home
Sasha is happy, healthy and doing very well. She took a couple of days to get used to her new environment and now she feels right at home. She is a very loving, friendly cat and is full of personality. She is a lap cat and loves attention. She likes to go in the laundry room and hunt socks. She brings us her finds. We are thrilled to have her. She is a perfect addition to our family.
3/23/15 - Sasha is doing well. She is a very loving cat and is still bringing us socks every day. If I do not get to putting the laundry away in the drawer, she will jump in the basket and dig through it for the socks. Some mornings we will wake up to several different pair of socks on the bed. She really did not take long to adjust to our home. Within a week she was comfortable with her environment. She took a month or so to warm up to our son. We assume she had never been around kids. He was 7 at the time and we explained to him that she will need to come to him on her terms.. and she did. Now she takes turns laying on laps. She will usually pick the person that has the blanket. She loves to be brushed. I left the brush on the floor and she sat next to it until came back to brush her. She has several favorite places in the house and a couple of cat beds where the sun shines in. Sasha is well behaved and has great manners. She likes people. She does like to chat sometimes and also likes to get a drink of water from the faucet. Sasha for the most part does not like to be picked up. She will tolerate it for a minute or two right when we get home as long as I scratch her chin. Then it is time to get down. She is a wonderful cat and we love her and feel fortunate to have her.
9/21/15 - Sasha is doing well. She is a happy, healthy, well adjusted cat that is full of personality. She still brings us socks or cat toys every morning and has them waiting for us at the door for when we arrive home. She has a favorite spot next to the window to sleep in her cat bed and soak up the sun. She also likes to chatter at the deer when she sees them outside. She loves to sit on a lap. Sasha is very loving. She purrs and chats all the time. I submitted a picture of her for the Siamese Rescue calendar. I was notified that she was chosen and is the January cat. There could not have been a more perfect match for our family.
1/1/17 - Sasha is doing well and is a wonderful cat. She is very happy and content. She enjoys sitting on our laps. She likes to hunt her toys and leaves them wherever I have been. She has 2 favorite toys which are the gray mouse and one brown mouse. At first the brown mouse was alarming because she likes to leave it in my bed and at first it did look like a real mouse from a distance. She also likes to drink from the faucet now. If she hears me go into the bathroom, she comes from wherever she is and jumps on the counter waiting for me to turn the faucet on. Sometimes, she is ahead of me and I find her sitting or laying in the sink as a not so subtle hint. Sasha has always loved to be brushed. I got her a new silicone brush which she loves. She knows where it is kept and when she hears the drawer open, she comes running to get brushed. She has a spot next to the window where she soaks up the sun for her nap. She does like to "chat" with us if she is in the mood. Sasha is doing well and we love her.

ANGEL
Hello, I'm Angel and Christmas is my very favorite time of year! Number one on my Christmas list to Santa - please find me a forever home for Christmas! I am being such a good girl here. I even helped my new human foster sister through her recent loss of her beloved hamster. I cuddle with her every night, talk to her, and even cry when she leaves my room. She says I helped her feel better. I am really loving the kids in my new home, because they never pick me up and let me come to them for loving. They pet me all the time and I talk and purr to let them know how much I like them! But deep down, I really, REALLY want my own family for Christmas. Won't you ask about me? My foster mom will tell you how good I've been...

Notes from Home
Angel, at age 14, is celebrating New Year's Eve and her 5-year anniversary in her forever home by listening to a concert on TV and looking at seed catalogs with me. Angel is healthy, leans, and active. She was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about three years ago, but fortunately, this condition is being controlled with diet (Hill's yd). Sometimes it is difficult to keep the treats away. She loves cheese but seldom gets a taste. Angel has had to become accustomed to having young grandchildren around, but is good at retreating when she feels they are getting too close. She knows when it is bedtime and sleeps at the foot of the bed. Angel is perfectly happy staying inside, and finds it traumatic to go out to see the vet. She has an appointment every 6 months, and does not do well with immunizations or medications. Her vet is very understanding about this and is careful with her care. Angel will always be the diva she was when I adopted her, but she has been a most devoted friend and seems to be able to read my mind at times. I think Angel will always be a one-person cat, so I am glad she chose me!

SWEETIE PIE
Just arrived and still getting used to things but so far so good! I do need to stay inside my transport area and will need a boy kitty playmate. I should be ready to go home sometime in July. If you think you might be interested in adding me to your family, you better ask about me quick!

No new pictures yet
Notes from Home
Sweetie is fitting in quite nicely to our family. She is still teething so she is chewing on everything in sight including the other cat and dog. She has a BIG appetite and has a typical kitten's curiosity for everything. She has learned quickly how to deal with both the older cat as well as the rambunctious dog.

Sweetie is doing great. I could not have asked for a better fit for my home. She is a little rascal getting into everything she isn't supposed to which is cute and annoying at the same time : ) She recently has started to try lap sitting - yeah!! I tried to change her name, but she seemed to like it the best so we tweaked it and instead of Miss Sweetie she has become Sweetie Pie.

MAXIMUS
UPDATE 8/19 What????? I'm still here? I'm getting pretty accustomed to things, better come and snatch me up soon, so I don't get too comfortable.

I'm a sensitive, gentle, soulful guy, I love being petted and I love toys. I'd rather have a home without so much action, so I can relax.
I've got so much love to give. I am skittish with strangers in the house, and I'll probably 'head for the hills' if it happens a lot. On the other hand, if it is just you and me (or two parents) I will follow you around like a DOG! I will beg for attention and I know you cannot resist me!

Just a QUIET place to relax and enjoy life, is all I need.

Hi,
We absolutely love our Maximus. He is the most loveable and sweetest kitty. Right now he is taking a nap. He and Poo Yen are tolerating each other (better than hissing). He has the run of the house now and sleeps with us.
He loves looking out of the windows and has a lot of interest in our cockatiel.
This is the second cat we have adopted from you and are extremely happy with both. We lost our last one after 12 years due to a cancerous tumor. Maximus has helped us along with Poo Yen.
Thank you for all that you have done.
Dee and Alan Gudroe

UPDATE: Maximus is doing great and has made himself right at home. He gets along OK with our other Siamese cat. Maximus loves going out on our enclosed sun room and watching the birds & squirrels through the windows outside. He is very playful and we have had no problems with him at all. He has fit right in.
Alan & Dee Gudroe

1 Year Update: Maximus has been with us for a year now. He loves his home and we love him. He had his yearly check-up at the vet & got all his shots. He is in fine health. Uploading a picture of him at Christmas.

IRIS
Hi there Iris here......

I am starting to settle in here at meoms..... Had my spa treatment. It was ok I just yelled alot! I am a very vocal little girl as all 4 of my paws were declawed as a kitten so I have learned other ways of being understood. I love people, am a lapcat and a love bug. I am very vocal with the other kitties until I learn that they will not hurt me.

My previous owners gave me to the shelter because they were moving......

If you are looking for a very siamese girl who likes to talk alot I am your girl.

Pleas ask about me, I won't be hre long................................. Would like to be home for Christmas
Notes from Home
In some ways, it seems that Iris only came to live with us a few months ago. In other ways, it feels like a lifetime that she has been with us. She is definitely top cat of the four we now have. She instantly welcomed the new girls, Gwen, April and Flora, but was slower to warm up to a little boy Rhys a few years ago. Unfortunately, we lost Rhys to wet FIP when he was only nine months old, almost exactly two years ago.
Iris further endeared herself to us when she helped take care of Flora when we brought her home from Peru in March, continuing when Flora was diagnosed with wet FIP in May. Iris continued to be a nursemaid to Flora after we got her in the drug trial at UC Davis. Iris has been our rock during the roller coaster ride, and she deserves as much of the credit for Flora's success as the trial drug for Flora's remission/cure. In fact, they were snuggling together on the bed by me when I woke up this morning.
It is impossible to put in words how much we love Iris and what a wonderful cat she is. She is a perfect lady, and we will be forever grateful to SCRC for bringing us together.

2/26/16: Phoebe was just tested with a combo FeLeuk test and the result? I have been where they are now.

DINAH
I just got here but I am purring already. I want to stay with my sister Valisa.
Notes from Home
Dinah is my seal snowshoe, and Phoebe is my blue snowshoe. This update and the attached pictures apply to both of my girls. They are both doing exceeding well. This morning--after eating a hearty breakfast, watching the birds and squirrels eat their seeds, and chasing the laser spot--the girls are basking in the morning sun on my bed. This is a pretty typical scenario. Oops, no, they are back downstairs with me again. In the beginning . . . Phoebe was ready to adapt the morning after I picked her up in Richmond from the Meezer Express. It took Dinah a couple of weeks to feel as comfortable, but she always ate and drank and used her litter box well. She finally emerged from under the bed in the guest bedroom to join the fun downstairs on a regular basis. Now they both sleep at the bottom of my bed--on a warm wool afghan--every night. About a week ago, they had their veterinary exam. They just hated the car ride but were very curious and content once out of the carriers in the exam room. The fecal samples were negative, but Phoebe had an ear infection. I just completed the twice daily, 10-day treatment, not the high point of her day. But I know her ears must feel so much better now. The vet thought that Phoebe's rather meager coat was due--not to having been shaved at some point--but to excessive self-grooming. The thinning was all in an area easily accessible to her rough tongue. Rather than use drugs--the vet suggested Benadryl--I opted to let the calm and stability of her new home work its magic. I am using Feliway upstairs and downstairs, and will keep an eye on the progress of her coat. She does not seem to be a nervous cat. In a few weeks, we return to the vet's for the conclusive FeLeuk combo test. Finally, I am such a happy and proud adoptive mother. I couldn't ask for funnier, prettier, more loving kitties. Thanks a million!

2/26/16: Dinah was just tested with a combo FeLeuk test and the result? NEGATIVE, just as I felt when I was first notified of her exposure to a kitty in foster care at the same time who later tested positive. My heart and prayers go out to this kitty's adoptive family. I have been where they are now.

7/11/16: This is the report for both Dinah and Phoebe. We are at the 6-month mark of adoption and things have really changed. Dinah, who spent the first several weeks under the bed in the guest room "assigned" to my two new kitties is now the dominant one. Her sister, fearless Phoebe, who was out and about the whole house the day after they arrived and who periodically dominated Dinah in the bedroom (jumped on her when she did emerge) is now subservient to her. But there generally is harmony. I feed the girls Natural Balance canned food both morning and evening, with a dry food chaser (which they love). I don't dare offer dry food free choice because Dinah (my chow hound) would eat all of it all the time. She has a tendency to gain weight, so I have figured out how much food to give her to keep her weight steady--wish I could do that for myself. I feed Phoebe a tiny bit more because she is a smidge bigger and seems to need more to eat. She manages to maintain her weight more easily than does Dinah. With no free choice dry food, I need to feed them a bit midday, which is unfortunate but doable. Although the girls are not cuddly--no lap sitting--they do like to be in the same room with me and follow me upstairs and down. Initially, scratching my furniture was a big problem, but I have several scratching posts around the house and they have learned to use those (almost) exclusively. Still trying to get them to enjoy being brushed. Dinah enjoys it more than does Phoebe, but they both still squirm a lot and prefer to walk around during the grooming session. Regarding Phoebe's issue with overgrooming, the situation had ameliorated somewhat. But now she is back at it and has decimated her beautiful coat on her tummy and upper arms. If anybody has any ideas other than medication, I would appreciate some help with this. A new problem: within the past few weeks, Dinah urinated three times away from the box: once on a throw rug in front of the kitchen door, once on a throw rug in front of the dining room door, and once on a fabric grocery bag that she loves to roll around on. The two doors are glass doors, where both girls love to sit and look out at the back yard. I put a litter box in the downstairs bathroom and the problem has not returned. Hope this easy access on the first floor is a permanent solution. Allthough my girls are very different from other kitties I have had (predominantly male) in that they are not particularly affectionate either with me or with each other, they are adorable, and I love them to bits.

Christmas 2016. Below is the paragraph on Dinah and Phoebe that I included in my annual letter to family and friends:

When I thought back on 2016, it seemed like a very quiet year. But my calendar painted quite a different picture, which explains why I continue to find so much satisfaction in retirement. But the very best day occurred early in the year. On January 9, I drove down to Richmond to pick up my two, 2-year-old, blue-eyed adopted kitties. They had traveled from Columbia, South Carolina, that morning, so they endured an exceedingly long day. And the adventure of adapting to a totally new home and to me was just beginning. I named them Phoebe (left, below) and Dinah, which fits them perfectly. Phoebe had a very strange hairdo. Her coat from mid-back to rear end looked as though it had been shaved and was growing out. But alas, it became clear that she was over-grooming (pulling out her hair). Goodness knows what my girls underwent before or after they were turned in to a rural pound—before Siamese Cat Rescue saved them. I am happy to report that Phoebe’s coat has filled out beautifully and that she is now just as poufy, like a little gray cloud, as her sister. She is also just as calm and contented as Dinah. Seeing those little faces in the sidelights to my front door whenever I return home is a true joy. (See current photos uploaded.)
