Hey adopters - Sawyer here!

Can you believe that I got lost outside for over a month and that my owners never even looked for me??? Me either!

Can you believe this happened during the winter, when it was soooo cold outside??? Me either!

And can you believe (and this is the worst part) that it happened during FOOTBALL SEASON???? Me either!!!

Thank goodness foster mom got me inside and warm - it was getting really cold out there.

And thank goodness I got inside in time for the playoffs! Can you imagine missing the Playoffs???

As you can see, I am warm and comfy now and all ready to watch the Super Bowl - how about you?

Do you need a couch companion to cheer with you? I am almost ready to go home and can be sitting next to you on your couch in time for the game:)

But you better hurry up and ask about me soon!

Are You Ready??? Here We Go......

Sawyer became a Jersey Boy on February 12. He is now known as Sepp (german diminitive for Joseph). There are not enough adjectives to describe this wonderful boy. He is a sweet and loving lap cat, who tries so hard to please his meezer sister Nina, dispite her occasional HISS. I would have never imagined how fast he would assimilate into our household. It's like he was always here. He loves everyone who comes in the front door. He will even say hello to the UPS man:) A better politician then most. He lets me know where he is at all times. A very vocal boy! At the present he is on my lap in the computer room as I type. Your probably saying to yourself, is he perfect? No! But almost:) Sepp likes to beg when we sit down to dinner. So now Sepp has his dinner when we sit down to eat. Oh! he must have been a circus acrobat in his former life. Or maybe, a mountain climber! His visit to the Vet went very well, and everyone there loves him. Sepp is a healthy Meezer!

I want to thank Christine for her great foster care. Her care and love were paramount in the way Sepp has adjusted. Thank you so much!

I am a gentle soul who purrs when petted and brushed. My world has been turned upside down, and I am working on being ready for the next phase. I am a bit confused about what happened to me - one day I am in my home, the next day I am in a strange place - change is scary! Patience, love and understanding are going to be key to helping me adjust to a new life.

With foster Mom's help, I am starting to regroup. With patience, I will be the meezer of your dreams.
Notes from Home
Eva is doing very well! She has a set routine and has no problem letting me know when she is in need of attention or food. We have our routines in the AM and PM and loves spending time with me; especially laying on me. I am starting to really realize how strong and active she is as well. She loves running around my apartment and has really come into her own. We are still working on getting used to other people other than myself and not being spooked by my neighbors, but otherwise things are great!!

July 12, 2014
Eva has really found herself now. She lets me know when she wants to play and has no problem climbing on me to let me know. She kneads all the time and drools when she really happy. I am so pleased with the progress she has made and I am looking forward to having my friends and family enjoy her as I do. She still is very shy to new people. However, she is courageous when a friend/family member has been over for a length of time and will make an appearance but runs away quickly when there are any subtle movements.

February, 2017
Eva and I have settled into our home in Virginia. She loves sitting in the bay window, basking in the sun. She loves going on road trips in CT with me to visit my parents and enjoys the summers there! She is still active as ever but does enjoy a quiet day with me as well.

I'm blossoming, just like an early spring flower! I started out shy but with some great work and still young, I'm ready with just a little work to become a great pal. Wonderful habits, and ooh I love to be petted! I could coexist with a gentle souled male, or be your one and only - how about a little lap time? I'm ready to go, so give me a call!

Notes from Home
Mazzie's name has been changed ro Cersei, and Cersei is doing very well. We took her to the vets last week because she had the sniffles. She's fine now. She's still very timid, but when you dangle a shoelace, she comes running. She has a million toys, and the shoelace is her favorite toy. She stays mostly in Nicholas's room, but when I go upstairs I open his door and she comes out to explore. She's very curious. We both love to sit and hold and pet her. Although she hides a lot under Nicholas'Sparks bed, she doesn't fight us when we get her out. I'll try to send a picture, but it's a little grainy, and I'm not great with this tablet. That's all for now and thanks again for everyone's help. - Katie and Nicholas Zaleski Cersei continues to open up. When she runs from me, sometimes she stops and look at me like she wants me to chase her. I don't know if cats do that, but that's what it seems like. When she wants to play, and you're trying to pet her, the claws come out. She's not bad at clawing at all. And the shoelace is still her favorite toy.

Have settled in and decided this place is ok. Meeting the other fosters and checking out the territory. Right now all I see is snow out the window and am glad to be inside where it is safe and warm. I like to be petted and a little bit of cuddling. Waiting to get a dental before I can go home.

Mimi is a sweetie! She was affectionate from the beginning, although she unthawed at her own rate: she immediately took to sleeping on my bed, but only at the foot, and she would let me hug her, but lean so far away from me that she would fall over if I let go. Now she snuggles up to me while she sleeps, she gives me affectionate head butts, and she follows me around the house like a puppy. I love her wonderful meezer voice! She is very good with the new kitty, Bennet. What a great girl!

I was hit by a car and taken care of by the shelter. Right now my jaw is wired and I'm recovering, so I'm just going to chill out here for a bit. I'm a bit upset by all the changes and need time to settle down and feel better.

More later.

Samantha is no Nomee, named after my last Siamese who we nicknamed Nellie.

Last night, she slept on my chest for awhile, nuzzled against me and licked my face! I have never had a cat be that affectionate. Now, she's still quite independent in the day and doesn't let me hold her for long but this is a huge improvement over our first meeting where she hiss then swatted me leaving a mark over my left eye!

She's more mischievous then my last two Siamese She's already broken a candle and swatted a small glass vase off the windowsill. I wish she'd play like that with her toys!

Sweet, gentle, loyal fella with bunny soft fur looking for a quiet home and a lap of my own. Foster Mom says I am the BEST lap sitter/snuggler. I really, really love to snuggle.

Notes from Home
Aberdeen is such a sweetie. He loves to sit in laps. He loves to sit in the window and chatter at the birds and squirrels. He loves to play. Boy, does he love to play. He plays with such exuberance that we just can’t help but laugh out loud at some of his antics. He’s just discovered the bathtub, so he jumps in then waits for me to throw the ball then he comes flying (and boy, do I mean flying) out after the ball. Check out the pictures and see what a real cutie he is.

Aberdeen is doing great! He still is as exuberant as ever - we call him our "toddler with ADD"! We've added more toys and his favorites are the tunnels (2 long ones and 1 short one) and large pieces of paper on the floor (perfect for diving under). We think he would do really well on an agility course if we could just get him to pay attention (see ADD reference). I've attached more pictures - enjoy!

2014 -Can't believe it's been a year since updating Aberdeen's page. Well, it's been a year of crazy antics and lots of laughs - Aberdeen continues to entertain on a daily basis. He lives up to the Snowshoe breed - active, funny, affectionate (on his terms), oh, and did I mention active? Some days he just can't seem to settle down but if I pick him up and hold him like a baby in my lap he settles in and goes to sleep. Seriously he is just like a baby sometimes - as mentioned in my previous post, a baby with ADD. He and his sister Dora have worked out most of their issues. They are not cuddly with each other but will sleep right next to each other. and when the lights go out at night they start playing including chasing each other all around the house until Dora says, enough is enough!

2015 -Aberdeens favorite thing to do is watching the squirrels and birds. I put food outside various windows and he and Dora entertain themselves by going from window to window watching the action. All I have to say is "squirrel" when I see one in the window and Aberdeen comes running from wherever he is. I
read somewhere that Snowshoes are the clowns of the cat family. Well, then Aberdeen is holding up the standards of the breed because he is truly the funniest cat I have ever owned. He even sleeps funny - he finds every convoluted position to get into - usually legs hanging over his basket, paws in the air and the cutest expression on his face. I'm attaching some pictures of this funny feline - enjoy!

2017 - Aberdeen is doing well but he did have a challenging year. His sister Dora passed away early in 2016 (6 year old chocolate point) from lung cancer and he was lost without her. Even though they weren't cuddle buddies they did play and always slept near each other. They both enjoyed sitting in the windows together watching the birds and squirrels. The first night after Dora died he slept in her bed (see picture). He had never slept there before and it was so sad to see. The weeks passed by slowly for him - he wasn't interested in playing and his sadness was heartbreaking.

Even though we didn't feel completely ready to adopt again so early on we felt it was necessary for him so began the search for a companion for Aberdeen. See attached picture of Aberdeen helping with the computer search. We finally found Lily and welcomed her into our lives at the end of March and as you can see from the pictures they have bonded and Aberdeen is back to his playful self. (Initially we were concerned that Lily's youth (she was around 8 months old) might be too much for Aberdeen and at first it seemed that way but we think her kitten antics was what brought him out of his sadness. Now they are buddies and rumble through the house together (usually when the lights go out at night!) They share the window seats watching the birds and it's fun to watch Lily learn from Aberdeen.

I am the king. The world belongs to me. You must be a properly trained meezer servant, with the ability to listen and do as I say.
As your reward, I will cuddle you, and snuggle you, and purr and give you headbutts. I will chat to you, and tell you all about my day, and my life, and the book I am writing.
I will give you kisses too.
If you have the proper qualifications, ask about me.

Kip Kip has been such a joy and a love to us but unfortunately due to an over active thyroid and renal failure had to be put down 11/09/16. I can not explain the love we had for our boy and the sassiness that he brought to our house. I was very concerned bringing a newborn home in 2009 having 2 cats and what that would bring. Sophie and Kipper became very best friends. She would suck on his tail and on his nose and he loved it always coming back for more. He was a very vocal guy and always let us know his thoughts. He will be truly missed. Thank you for matching us with such a great guy.

A mother at a young age, I've lived with 24 other cats and did just fine. Now I'm spayed and looking forward to really getting to live a little! Give me toys, cuddles, attention and love and I'm going to soak up every second of it! And other cats! Sure, bring them on! (Though if you really wanted just one, sure, I could absorb all the attention you have to give! )

Notes from Home
Ivy has been here for three weeks and is doing well. She LOVES to be with humans and chirps, trills and squeaks a lot in a very soft voice. Laps though are not interesting and has yet to sit in one. Since it is not lady-like to hiss, she does not do that. Toy-mice and laser dots are not safe in this house anymore. Playful does not begin to describe Ivy. She wants to play all the time and loves to play fetch with the mice. Jokes, oh yeah, she likes those too - on April 1st, she woke up her cat-daddy by jumping onto the headboard and drop the mouse on his head.

Her big little brother, Haku, is not fond of her at all so integration is going slowly. But when such a whippersnapper is too naughty she will put him in his place. After all, she has dealt with kittens before, though it is a little disconcerting to see a little 7 pound cat whoop a 13 pound boy's behind.

May 13, 2013

Hello again,
A little update on our little miss Ivy Piggy. She went to the vet last week since she has been sneezing and coughing. We suspected allergies and asthma, which the vet said was very likely. Her temperature was also a little elevated, so antibiotics and antihistamine for her. Ivy does not like to have her mouth handled and turns into a spitfire if you try. Fortunately she LOVES pill-pockets, so she does take her medicine like a champ.

Ivy gained half a pound since the last visit to TED, so she is not starving :-) but is now an 8 pound girl. She has calmed down a lot and accepts the resident cat Haku, - as long as he doesn't show fear or is rude, then she will put him in his place.

Haku has his confidence back but now he is challenging her - or wants to roughhouse with her, I don't know which. They can be together in the same room supervised, but if any of them gets naughty, they get separated. Litter boxes are also a turf war - it's funny how Ivy defends the one upstairs, while Haku defends the one downstairs. Our boxes are of the covered variety since Ivy likes to dig to China in there, so we will try uncovered ones , but with high walls so there is an escape. Cat-daddy is not happy, for that means more litter clean-up for him. In other words, Integration is not finished, but there has been progress.

Last but not least, Ivy has acquired quite a few nicknames and a theme song Triller (think Michael Jackson's song "Thriller"), Snow-kitty, sushi-wushi (ask the kids), Ivy-girl and Little Lady. Her favorite toy is a tailless mousie named "Wet, Cold Yucky Mousie".

May 16, 2013

Wow, what a week of antibiotics can do. Ivy seems to feel a thousand times better and her personality is now in full bloom. When we were interviewed, Karen told us that meezers may attach themselves to one person, and boy, did Ivy do that. She is now Meowmy's shadow and can't bear not to have her favorite person out of sight. So another nickname has been coined - Shadow :-).

July 10th, 2013

All is good here and in general there are healthy cats here. Ivy and Haku are now very good friends and love to "wrestle" with each other, especially when Ivy tries to groom Haku. Ivy has indeed found Haku's inner kitten for him. When not wrestling with her "big" little brother, Ivy enjoys running after toy-mousies and will sometimes bring them back for us "slaves" to throw them again. She is still very playful.

Haku was trained to sit on a mat when the family leaves the house to avoid darting out and Ivy has picked up the sitting on the mat part. Maybe that has something to do with the treats that can be in the offing? Ivy loves food, so much that in the time she has been with us, she has gained a whole pound and has collected two additional nicknames - Ms. Piggy and Roly-Poly. We found out she enjoys romaine lettuce, pasta, pork, chicken, pizza crust, potato chips, French fries and any kind of fish, except tuna... but she gets it in very small amounts. We have a fifth member at the dining table now to keep us company.

So all in all, we have a happy home here and healthy cats despite TED (The Evil Doctor :-) diagnosing Ivy (and Haku) with feline herpes and possibly hay fever. We give them OTC lysine to bolster the immune system and they treat it as a treat. There are new pictures to see, so click on the pictures next "door".

November 16, 2013:

What a difference six months can do... Ivy is still surprising us. She has decided that "her" person is not meowmy anymore, but cat daddy. Ivy has until now not wanted to sit in any laps, just sit next to you on the arm rest if you are sitting on the sofa. Well, the last couple of days, cat daddy's lap has been deemed adequate to sleep on. We are delighted that she is trusting us more and more and feeling more secure. Haku and Ivy are still friends and love to play tag in the morning and wrestle. And of course, more nicknames have surfaced, such as chubanucka, Roly Poly, and the latest - chowmeister. She is getting rotund around the belly after one too many treats at the dining table and when people are leaving the house... Our new motto for her is "all in moderation..."

March 17, 2014

Happy Gotcha day, Ivy.

Wow, it's has already been a year since Trouble, Colette - ahem IVY - came on a snowy day... She has settled in as the queen she is (well, former queen - no more kittens for her), gets along famously with Haku and sleeps between Meowmy and Catdaddy every night and follows Meowmy everywhere during the day. Her check-up back in February was stellar - same weight as when she arrived at SCRC, tail still curled and fluffed when she is happy - and that is often. However, she did not show her beautiful ringtail to the vet - he is evil in her eyes, poking her with a needle and ruffling her fur.

And Ivy loooooooves her mousies. She plays even more now than when she arrived. And fetch, oh yeah - well almost. She will run after the mousie and bring it back. That is, bring it to within five feet of ya. She expects you to get up and retrieve it; no sitting down and get off easy, oh no :-). When she tires of chasing the mousie, she likes to help with the kids' homework - especially lying on the folders and papers. Fluffy blankets and carpets are not for her. Smooth, hard surfaces are her favorite places to lie down and survey her queendom.

So it was a year ago, she came, she conquered, she stole our hearts. We have still not found them ;-).

February 4th, 2017

Wow, time flies... Ivy has been with us for four years now (we still haven't found our hearts - it's a lost cause ;-). It has been nothing but fun. Ivy is definitely the queen in this house, ruling it with "iron claws". She is a very gregarious and loving girl, who puts herself in the middle of the group. If one person is at one end of the room and another person at the opposite end, Ivy will plop down in the middle, so there's the same distance to her people. Laps are wonderful too, especially if they are under a fleecy blanket. She has her own pillow on the bed, so she, again, is between her people when they sleep.

Lately though, she's been through some rough waters. Allergies kept her sneezing and a couple of months ago, we noticed that she had a hard time eating her lysine in one piece. Lysine comes in a hard fish shaped treat, that can dry to a tough cookie - literally. At her annual check-up, we had TED (The Evil Doctor) look closely in her mouth. He found stomatitis and recommended a dental cleaning with extraction of one tooth. Well, she ended up having her upper fangs and one molar pulled. At the same time, we found out that she was already missing seven teeth! They were either re-absorbed or fell out without us noticing.
Here three days after surgery she is back to her usually funny self, keeping Haku in check, and fetching her mousies again - albeit without her upper fangs. She is still getting used to them not being there. We are crossing fingers, toes and claws that she won't have to go through this again and that her sneezing was due to the untreated stomatitis and not allergies.

Well, I'm all settled in at my new home. I love playing with my big sis! We wrestle and race all over the house. I'm not as shy as I used to be. Im still not sure about new people, but I try to give them a chance if they stay for a while.

I'll be 1 year old this month and man have I grown! Meowmy is gonna have to get a bigger cat tree that reaches to the ceiling. I plan on exploring from higher ground. Keep checking on me for updates. We have adventures coming soon.
