Sunny has taken over the house, not say once she was here really likes both cat trees
ate two cans of food yesterday and ate most of one this morning

2/21/2017 started to play today with several of the toys, likes the feathers on a stick, no interest in laser pointer. became a lap cat today spent several hours in my lay as I was reading.
2/24/2017 added a couple of new photos this morning. really likes the cat tree as you can see from the photos. last night for the first time spend most of the night sleeping next to me on the bed.
3/4/2017 two weeks today Sunny came to my place. at this moment she is asleep on the top shelf of the cat tree in the study in the morning sun. The "shy scared" lady has the run of the house now and is taken over several spots! Playing much more. So glad to have her here sharing my home.
Vet visit yesterday went well, clean bill of health, will visit again in September as my vet likes to see older cats twice a year
3/18/2017 onw month since Sunny arrived to live with me. This afternoon she was sleeping on the bed against my leg which has become common for about the last week. She is no longer the shy cat as she has the run of the house now. This morning was fussing at the bird in the tree outside the window from the cat tree in the study. And she really likes the wand with the feathers on the end to chase. It is so nice to have a fun cat again. Her one problem is the hardwood floors in the hall as she goes sliding when she tries to run down the hall. Sunny is also sleeping most of the night on the bed with me curled up against my legs. She is devouring her wet food single servings twice a day, they are gone within 10 minutes.
So glad she talked to me at the center and I decided to select her.
I think that she has found a home!!

10/2/2017 just over 7 months now doing well, spends lots of time curled up next to me on the bed, still very scared of thunder. Sept vet visit went very well weights 8.8 lbs now. still prefers the sheba beef pate, chicken is ok. its ok for her to leave the room but am followed if I leave. meets me at the door when I come home. Has her own mind about being petted, sometime says no! Much more demands to be where the action is, like on the computer keyboard when I am trying to type. So glad she talked to me that day. She has found her home.
2/18/2018 One year anniversary of Sunny coming home with me. She has really added to my life. Its so nice to have a companion who want to be close and plays. She is due for her 6 month checkup next month. So far no concerns. Interesting that I tried several other Sheba flavors and now her favorite is salmon. She prefers it to the beef and seafood mixture. She is sitting next to the keyboard watching me type now. Likes to sit on it. Lots of head butts now and much more talking to me. She is here to stay. Thanks to all.

2/18/2019 two year anniversary of sunny finding a new home. She is a very spoiled little girl, lots of toys, latest are shoelaces, especially if they are pulled under a cloth. Now really likes the Salmon both cuts and pate. was sitting on my shoulder a few minutes ago. discovered the fireplace earlier this fall. Nice warm spot!! Also has several of the Christmas ribbons that she has taken for her entertainment. Due for next Vet visit next month, every 6 moths.

2/18/2020 three year anniversary of sunny coming to live with me. She is quite the queen of the house, now lettings me rub her tummy, she rolls over and stares at me when she wants a rub. Coming up on her Vet visit last one was fine. Vet said that if she didn't know would have said Sunny was 7 or 8 years old. Big test in April as I will be gone for a week, so hope she is ok at boarding location.
I have a happy camper!!

Hi,
Fuji went for her physical and rabies shot today. She has had problems with feline dental reabsorption disease and lost teeth the previous two years. But this year she has had no tenderness in her gums at all. So the vet didn't think new ex rays were needed. I have been brushing her teeth, so I will notice if she has any signs of redness in her gums.
The only issue is that she needs to lose a little weight. She hasn't lost an ounce since last year -- but at least she hasn't gained. I have tried a couple of low fat canned foods. She didn't like Innova. She loves Weruva fish flavors, which are low fat. The only trouble with that is that she begs for it all the time. She claims she is starving. She does exercise and still loves to chase a ball. Play used to be more important to her than food, so I have been playing dumb and try to get her to play ball instead of second helpings. That hasn't stopped her from begging for more, but she does bring me a toy after she eats. Perhaps the toy is my reward for feeding her. She is very good at training me to do what she wants.
I wonder if the mostly fish and/or low fat diet is helping the dental issue? I know they are studying whether diet may help, but they don't seem to know.

HI, Fuji is doing great, she is very active and healthy. Her teeth, which were a concern, seem to be fine. We will see what the vet says. I have an appointment for next week.
Fuji's favorite toy now is her new tunnel. I know that she plays with it while I am at work because toys are piled inside when I come home. She likes me to roll a ball through it so that she can chase it out the other side.
She still washes me when I come home from work, wake up in the morning, and sometimes when she wants me to feed her too. I made a short video of her doing this when I happened to have a camera ready and there was adequate light (she tends to do this at dawn and dusk so it is hard to capture). She wanted me to feed her an hour early, so I ignored her slightly and that started the washing ritual. I will try to upload it. I hope it is not too large a file. I am still learning how to size video down.

Hi,
Fuji went to the vet last week. For a couple of years the vet has said she should loose a little weight. I switched to a lower calorie cat food (Weruva) last year. Well, she lost a little over a pound -- which is about twice the target we had set. I hadn't realized she had lost that much. The vet said that Fuji is not underweight yet, but loosing weight that fast is a concern. I was sure I wasn't starving her --just reducing her calorie intake a bit. So we agreed to do some blood work to see if her thyroid is ok. I got the results this week. The vet said that her thyroid level is on the high side of normal at a time in life where her thyroid level should be decreasing a little. He said that it is "suspicious" but the only thing to do is to keep an eye on her and test her again in a couple of months. In the meantime she can have more calories. I am mixing turkey with the fish and she likes that.
My last cat had severe hyperthyroidism, so I know something about it. I know that learning about it early is a good thing. So I will get her tested again in two months and we will know more.

Hi,
Fuji and I saw the vet today and got her booster shots, She is very healthy and active. Last year we were concerned that she lost a bit of weight and was a little hyper so I was a little concerned about high thyroid. She was re-checked at the end of the summer and her thyroid was fine and she had gained back the weight she lost. Today her weight is still at 6 1/2 pounds and her heart rate is good so the doctor didn't think we needed another thyroid panel done. Of course I will keep an eye on her. Her teeth are also good. She hasn't lost any teeth since I switched her to a low fat grain free diet (Weruva).
I will upload a couple of photos. She is a very active cat and does not have any idea that she is middle aged. She can do quiet time but she insists on exercising me twice a day. She has a tube and she likes chasing balls. If I roll a ball through the tube for her, then that is completely irresistible.
Her fashions have changed a little. For a several years she had stripes on her pants that were most noticeable in the winter. Now she is going with a more Siamese look winter and summer. I knew that Siamese's body color often gets darker but I didn't know a lynx point could change their stripes. She is very beautiful whatever she decides to wear.

Fuji is doing great. She did loose her lower canines earlier this year, but she still has back teeth to chew with. This was the first time the reabsorbtion disease took teeth in several years. At her check up vet found a urinary infection she wasn't telling us about, but she is done with the antibiotics now and claims it was a lot of fuss about nothing. I decided to add a little water to her food because she thinks water is for ducks.
Fuji still acts like a young cat and runs a lot. Her new game is chasing a ball around the bathtub. She has decided not to be as shy with visitors as she used to be. It happened all of the sudden - she found out she would be admired if she came out to visit and that was it.

Hi, I hope you are all well. Fuji and I spent a long time at the vet yesterday. We went for a routine yearly exam and Fuji had no complaints, but the vet felt something not quite right with Fuji's belly. We decided to do xrays, which showed no tumor. The vet was concerned that Fuji might have an illness that causes thickening in the intestine. But the xray was not conclusive about that. They took blood for tests and we will follow up. It may turn out to be just something to watch and see if there are any changes. Her teeth -- the ones left -- are just fine.
Fuji says she is fine. She was tired yesterday after the long trip to the vet, and shots. But today she is running around as usual. She does not agree that she is a "senior" cat. She has too many things to do.

Hi, Today Fuji had an ultrasound. They found that she has enlarged lymph nodes in her abdomen. So that is what the doctor was feeling at her checkup. They did a needle biopsy to find out more about what is going on. The doctor suspects either Lymphoma or cancer of the spleen. It is a lot to take in, especially since Fuji says she is just fine. But it is good that they caught this early. I will let you know when we get the tests back.

Hi, All the tests came back negative. So it isn't clear what is going on in Fuji's belly. The vet decided to try treating it as inflammatory bowel syndrome, probably caused by a food allergy. So Fuji is taking medicines to try to reduce inflammation and we have started a diet using Hills hypoallergenic canned food -- food the vet says hardly any cats will eat. Fuji eats it! We have gone through two cans so I think we are past the hard part. She is taking her pills too. It will be another month before we know if this is helping. Since she doesn't have obvious external signs that she has a food allergy, it is going to be hard to know if things are getting better. In about a month she will have another sonogram and we will know if we are on the right track.

Hi,
Last time I wrote we were trying a hypoallergenic diet with Fuji. That didn't help, and she was losing her appetite. A new ultrasound showed that the inflammation in her abdomen was worse. The vet was concerned that it might be cancer and recommended diagnostic surgery. They felt sure that they could diagnose the problem if they could look inside and take biopsy samples. They found nodules in the connective tissue all through her insides, too widespread to be removed. Her other organs looked ok. They took four samples for biopsy. But the results of the biopsy were inconclusive. They sent slides of the tissue to experts to see if they could figure out what this is. That effort came back with a diagnosis of a rare and little known disease that causes what they saw-- inflammation and abnormal nodules in the connective tissue that holds the intestines in place. Fuji had had a hard time with recovery. She had an upset stomach and it was hard to get her to eat. Medicine for nausea only helped a little So we started a low dose of a steroid to reduce inflammation before we got this diagnosis. As it turned out this is exactly what is recommended. They don't know how to treat the disease, just the symptoms. The vet is doing more to find out the latest research on treatment that may help. But it is a scary diagnosis as cats don't live long with it.
Fuji is doing well on the steroid. It makes her hungry and she seems to want to make up for the time she didn't want to eat. But she is much more herself and starting to play and enjoy life again. So I'll just try to keep her comfortable as long as I can.
In case you may know of someone with knowledge of this rare condition, the name of it is feline gastrointestinal eosinophilic sclerosing fibroplasia.

Great news! Fuji just had an ultrasound to see how well she is doing on medication to treat the inflammation in her abdomen. The inflammation has gone down considerably. It is not gone, but the doctor now feels that the FGESF will go into remission and can be controlled with medication. Fortunately she is tolerating the medicine well. We will stay the course for a while and see if at least one of the medications can be reduced once it is clear that the symptoms are gone. I am much more confident that Fuji can have a long life. She is even acting like a younger cat. She runs and plays and asks me to throw a ball for her.
She is being treated with a combination of Prednisone and Atopica (veterinary ciclosporin). There is no standard treatment for FGESF, but this combination targets the eosinophils and so has the most science behind it. There is no set time period for treatment so we will keep a close eye on her. There is also almost no precedent for treating a cat Fuji's age and that was a worry going into this treatment. But Fuji is a strong little cat and a good patient. She is good about taking her pills and cooperates with the vet. The vet said she talked to all the people and all the other cats while she was in for her ultrasound yesterday.

Hi, Fuji saw the vet yesterday and she is doing very well. She had an ultrasound scan in February to check on the FGESF and that showed that her lymph nodes in her belly were normal and there was only a faint patch of remaining inflammation. Yesterday Dr. Keller felt her abdomen very carefully and couldn't find any sign of inflammation at all. Fuji is having blood work done to be sure and she will have ultrasounds every 6 months. The doctors are delighted. They have been checking with other vets to help decide what steps to take next and they don't know of a cat as old as Fuji to have been successfully treated for this disease. So we are in uncharted territory a bit, but what we are doing now is working. What is great is that Fuji has adapted well to her new routine. Her pills can come with a treat, so I tell her it is time to take a pill and she comes to get it. She is running around, playing, and talking to me all the time as usual. She seems like a younger cat!

My beautiful Miss Fuji died in my arms today. I took her to the vet because she wasn't eating yesterday or today and didn't get up and order me around as usual. I thought she might need fluids or something. The vet found lung cancer. I thought her other health issues might take her one day, but I had no clue about cancer, or that her time was so short. She was playing around with her new toy just three days ago. I am so grateful for the nearly 11 years I had with her, for the good care the vet gave her, and for Siamese Cat Rescue Center nursing a young street cat back to health so that I could adopt her all those years ago. I am deeply sad. She was a wonderful companion.

I have reactivated my application for adoption, but I found I could not update it so I am updating information here. I currently have no cats. I could adopt a pair of cats or a cat that needs to be a one and only. I work at home on Fridays so I am home three days a week and can take more time off to be with a new cat. I am interested in a young cat, or two young cats (possibly a male and female). I especially enjoy cats that are a bit alpha -- those demanding cats that insist that you to interact with them. They often require some patience, training, and negotiation, but they are worth the effort. With two, of course, one should be more laid back. My phone number has changed, it is 240-424-2865. KAIPO
What a sweet snuggly boy. He appears to be very healthy.He is a shy cat but he is not aggressive in any way. His litter box habits are perfect and he is a sweet little boy.
I had to go to the vet so he could look at my eye and both vets said I was the sweetest cant they had ever had. He never hissed or tried to get away. He just let them do everything they needed to do. Such a sweet boy.

1/11/14 - Gunther is still living under my bed, but when pulled out for treatment will quietly sit in my lap soaking up the scritches and strokes. He is eating well and using the litter box. i am finding toy mice under my bed, so I know that he's coming out to play. Waiting patiently for him to get more comfortable with being here.
2/20/14 - Gunther has undergone a name change. We (Gunther and I) have agreed that his new name will be Kaipo - Hawaiian for "the sweetheart." He still lives under the bed, but is now greeting me at the bedroom door at mealtimes. This evening, he let me pick him up, medicate his eye and clip his toenails. He's currently laying in my lap grooming himself.
5/8/14 - Kaipo is definitely out from under the bed. He's very confident and *active*. I had forgotten how active cats can be. :)
6/29/14 - Wow! Can't believe that it's been 6 months already. Kaipo has made himself at home. He can turn *anything* he finds into a toy. Latte and I watch his antics - i, with amusement and Latte, with contempt as only an older sister can. Latte was wondering when we can send him back. . . . ;)
12/28/14 - One year ago today I made the long drive down to Summerville, SC, just north of Charleston, to meet Libby, the last of the four wonderful transporters who brought Kaipo (AKA Gunther) north from Florida. He often hangs out in my bedroom and has claimed the middle of the bed as his place. He likes to snuggle, but not to give kisses. From the meezers, Latte and Kaipo, and me - may you have a Happy New Year! and may all the homeless meezers find their forever home in the new year.
12/28/15 - Kaipo has been an interesting companion. There is not one electric cord that doesn't have tooth marks on them. I woke up one morning to discover several bubbles on my phone's screen protector. When I looked more closely, I saw tiny puncture marks in the middle of each bubble. He recognizes his name and mostly comes when called. He occasionally wants to get under the bed covers and snuggle with me. Everything is a toy to him. Best wishes for a happy new year from Kaipo and Latte and me.
12/28/17 - My, how time flies. The problem with his eye turned out to be entropion, which was successfully operated on.
Kaipo likes to get under the covers with me at night and often I will bump him when I turn over or stretch my feet out. Recently Kaipo and his "sister" Latte had a great adventure. On October 20, 2017, we moved from Aiken, SC to Hawaii! Since I needed to ship my car to Hawaii, I decided to drive cross-country with the two cats and a long-time friend.
We left Aiken and drove to Atlanta where we met up with my friend. Kaipo was a bit stressed by the move and wasn't too interested in eating. Normally the cats were fed twice a day, but in order to avoid "accidents" in the crates, they were fed a few hours after we got to the hotel. The first couple of mornings wasn't a problem catching and crating the cats, but by the third night, Kaipo decided he didn't want to get in the crate and disappeared! Now, the room had mostly built in furniture and we hadn't left any drawers or closet doors open, but we couldn't find Kaipo! We even called the front desk asking for assistance in moving furniture in order to locate Kaipo. We finally found him behind the dresser - apparently there was just enough space between the back of the drawer and and wall for him to hide. The rest of the drive was pretty uneventful.
The morning of the flight to Hawaii, the cats were rounded up and placed in crates along with a fluffy bath sheet and their litter box. At the airport in L.A., I placed them on a luggage cart and pushed the cart up onto the sidewalk. What I didn't realize is that when you let go of the little bar that keeps the cart from rolling away, the brakes are immediately applied and the cart stops. Unfortunately, the crates kept going and both crates rolled over several times scattering cat litter all over the sidewalk. Upstairs after checkin, we had to take the cats over to a special area to have TSA check for any explosives in the crates. While I held each cat, the ticket agent for the airlines took the litter boxes of the crates, tried to pour as much of the litter in the crates back into the litter boxes and shook out and refolded the towels and placed them back in the crates. When they were back in the crates, the ticket agent locked the doors with zip ties.
When I got to the gate, I identified myself to the gate agent who told me that they would let me know when the cats were loaded onto the plane. The flight was smooth and when I got off the plane, I headed to baggage claim to pick up my suitcase and met my sister at the curb. We drove over to the Animal Quarantine Station Holding Area and waited several minutes for the cats to arrive. The drive home took about 25 minutes and I let them out in my bedroom to get used to the new place. They now have run of a 3-bedroom house instead of a 1-bedroom apartment. Lots of windows to look out of and new people to meet and greet.
Both cats have made themselves at home and will probably live out their lives in paradise.

2/8/20 -Aloha from Hawaii! Kaipo has taught my sister to put anything edible away so he can't get to it. She left a bag of tortillas and a loaf of bread sitting out on the stove on a couple of different occasions. Both times, she found the plastic covering chewed thru and the bread and tortilla nibbled on. He enjoys watching the outside world from my bedroom window or perching on the mantle in the living room.
Recently I noticed that his urine clumps were getting smaller so a quick visit to the vet proved that he was starting to form crystals in his urine. He's been on Hill's c/d and some chews to help dissolve the crystals. Fortunately, he'll eat anything, so giving him his antibiotics in Pill Pockets are easy!
There's a GIF floating around FaceBook of 2 cats sitting next to each other. One cat starts grooming the other then bats at him for a few seconds and then starts grooming him again. That's Kaipo and Latte when they share my lap.

NELLIE
My owner has passed on and I'm left with looking for another home. I am shy but incredibly sweet, with a great meow and amazing potential. I could go with a very laid back male cat who would not pick on me or hog all the attention, or I could go by myself. But please, someone give me a home soon! In my pictures I don't look so happy or kind but that's because I'm terrified here at the Center - promise in a small quiet place I'd do well.

Notes from Home
Nellie seems to be getting more adjusted although she is still most comfortable hiding in the closet. That has become her goto spot now. She doesn't seem to mind getting petted while in there and when we aren't around she is obviously wandering around the office investigating. Her appetite is good and she is using her box with no problem.
This morning I found her facing the front of the closet in a relaxed position, which is much better than her previous cramming herself in a corner and facing the wall (she does have a bed in there but isn't using it yet). She's even starting to close her eyes when getting petted.
Still think it'll be a while before she really settles in, but I believe we are making progress, it hasn't been a week yet.
Sunday 8/4/19
Nellie is improving. She loves to be petted. For the past week she's been hiding in the office closet and we have been leaving her there but petting her when we come in to visit. She's been purring and responding well to being petted.
Yesterday after a very long petting session she finally stood up, walked out of the closet and rubbed all around me then walked over and jumped into the window. That's the first time she has been out with one of us in the room. Later I found her on the top of the cat tree, so I think we are getting some positive results.
This morning she was still in the closet but appeared much more comfortable in the way she was positioned. No longer crammed into one corner of the closet with her head in the corner.
Her appetite is still good, she's been eating her dry food and cleaning her soft food dish and drinking water.
Tuesday 8/7/19
Nellie continues to make progress. She hasn't left the office from what I can tell, although the door to the adjacent room is left open. She still hides in the closet during the day but comes out in the evening and spends the night in the cat tree.
She loves being petted and isn't upset if I open the closet doors (double doors) and pet her in the corner where she stays. In the evenings I've been able to get her to come to the front of the closet and she'll roll over for me and rub all around me while I sit there and pet her. I have noticed that at times she hears some noise and will growl. Seems she is afraid that she'll be disturbed. At least once it was Nancy walking towards the office. She still purrs while growling, but I wonder if it's left over from the other cat being aggressive. The growls seem more like "I'm not happy" than anything else.
Last night she spent about 20 minutes with me in front of the closet rolling over and rubbing against me while getting petted and then to my surprise walked over to her dish ate and jumped up in the cat tree. First time she has felt comfortable enough to leave the closet when someone is in the room.
I'm pleased with the progress to date, she's becoming more trusting, although this is going to take time.
8/13/19
We are making good progress with Nellie. She is still spending much of her time in the closet, but now when I go to pet her she immediately comes out of the corner and comes outside the closet. She's been very affectionate and rubs all around me while getting petted. She's even let me pick her up a couple times with no distress. Nellie has rolled over and laid down in front of me. She seems quite comfortable with me and also with Nancy. However, she won't leave the area of the closet while anyone is in the room. The camera I setup shows her wandering around the office and spending the night in her cat tree, but as the morning approaches and it starts to get light out, she retreats to the closet.
She does wander around the office in the evening, but I can't tell if she has left and explored the other large room she has access to.
She is a sweet cat. Nellie even has stood up on her hind legs to nuzzle my beard at times when I spend time with her.
I think we're doing good for almost 3 weeks now. But it looks like it'll take some time for her to feel comfortable during the day.
8/15/19
Nellie continues to improve with us. While she still won't come out of the closet area when any of us are in the room, she now trots out right away when I open the door and sit in front of the closet. She has started to greet me with a couple of meows while she comes out of the corner to be petted. Today she included a new behavior, she's climbing up on my leg to lick my beard. I'm hopeful that in the next few weeks she'll feel comfortable enough to come out into the office while I'm here, eat, and sit in the cat tree. She is still quite nervous about being away from the closet with anyone around. I can see her on the camera leaving the cat tree when she hears us approaching.
If either of us are petting her and she hears footsteps approaching she starts growling and retreats to her corner. I've been able to coax her back out with Nancy in the room, but she hasn't had the same experience with me in the background. The growls seem more an indication that she's nervous rather than anything aggressive. And once she sees us, it's back to purring.
Still, very good progress for less than three weeks.
8/20
More progress with Nellie. Although she is staying close to the closet when we are present, she now comes immediately to be petted when I open the doors, no coaxing needed. I try to spend as much time with her as I can and she seems to respond well to me. She really likes the attention and seems to be trusting of me more and more each day. She now has the habit of climbing up on my leg when I'm sitting down and putting her paws on my chest to lick my beard and periodically reaches up to touch my cheek with her paw. This morning I was able to coax her across the office by sitting next to her food dish and she left the closet to be petted and eat. However, any noise from the other part of the house, especially footsteps will have her growling and running for the closet. If I'm there talking to her and petting her, she won't run for the corner, but still walks around me peering around the corner and growling until the noise stops. Obviously there is some history there with associating noise and footsteps with something unpleasant. Looks like that is going to take more time for her to realize nothing is coming to disturb her. Still, heading into 4 weeks, we've made great progress. She's not quite as comfortable with Nancy yet, but close. She will come out of the corner to get petted and has been rolling over on the floor for her as well. Very affectionate kitty when we are with her. At night she does leave the closet and sleep in her cat tree once it's quiet.

Continuing progress. Nellie now runs out of the closet whenever we are in the office. She seems happy to have one or both of us here and will trot around the office, eat, and lay down while we are here. She is still nervous about noises outside the office and won't venture out into the hallway yet. When I'm working in the office she is out wandering around or finds a spot to lay down. She has also jumped on the desk and sprawled out wanting to be petted. Day by day she is getting braver and more sociable. Very good progress in a month. More purrs and more talking now as well. She still sleeps in the cat tree at night when we are upstairs and it's quiet.
9-3-19
Nellie continues to get more comfortable in the house. She now runs out of the closet as soon as she hears me in the office. Twice now she has jumped into my lap to get petted. Her routine now is that around 8:30 she climbs into the cat tree to go to bed. However, she is not happy about being approached while in the tree. Even though she's perfectly happy to be petted and handled by either one of us, she growls and huddles if we reach up to pet her in the tree.
Still can't get her to leave the office during the day, but she has wandered out into the adjacent room at night. Still very nervous when she hears noises outside the office, although she is getting better about that.
When either or both of us are in the office she immediately comes out and stays with us while we are there. And she has now started to play with her catnip toy as well.
9/17/19
More progress with Nellie. She now crawls into my lap frequently when I'm in the office working. And she has let me pick her up now and pet her frequently. No question she likes the attention and has sat next to me and meowed to be petted and picked up. Her new favorite spot is under my desk where she can see the entire office. I have not found her in the closet for over a week now. She still won't leave the office despite the fact none of the doors from the office to the rest of the house are always open. But perhaps that will come in the next couple of months.
10/7/19
Continued very good progress with Nellie. She is playing with her toys, spending time looking out the window and now is running to us whenever we come into the office. A couple times she has followed Nancy part way down the hall but still won't leave the office to be with us. When I'm in the office she will get in my lap, jump on the desk and roll over to be petted, and lets me pick her up and hold her. Nellie is very comfortable with us now and is gradually getting over her nervousness. Much of the day when we are not home is spent in her cat tree or sleeping next to her bed at the bottom of the cat tree. She has been very active when we are here in running around the office, playing with her toys and running up and down the cat tree. She purrs constantly when around us and loves getting attention. Very sweet cat.
10/24/19
Nellie continues to improve. She no longer runs under the desk when one of us enters the office but either sits where she was or remains in her cat tree. She does come to be petted. Nellie is now venturing out into other rooms, she joins us for lunch and dinner in the dining room. Although she is still skittish about noises. I have also caught her walking down the hall to the living room, although she usually trots back to the office when I see her. Not sure if she thinks it isn't allowed or not, but we encourage her whenever we see her.
Nellie has now discovered laser pointers. She is a fanatic about playing with it. I can't even touch it without her racing up to me and meowing for me to play with her. So far I get tired before she does. My automated laser toy is now getting a workout with her. Good progress with her. She also spends a lot of time in my lap and always wants to be petted. 11/19/2019
Nellie has now quit hiding in the closet or under my desk. She spends all her sleep time now in the cat tree and runs to us when we come into the office. When we are in the dining room she is in there with us. Her skittishness is disappearing day by day. While she ventures frequently into the kitchen and will venture part way down the hall to the living room she still spends most of her time in the office and dining room.
She is addicted to the laser toy and will chase it around as long as it runs. When it goes off if I'm in the office she will come in and yell at me until I go and start it up again.
Good progress and a far cry from the cat who was huddled in the closet corner and cowered at every noise.
She is frequently in my lap when I work from home and purrs up a storm when getting petted.

Nellie continues to make terrific progress at home. She is wandering around the entire house now, I've moved her food to the kitchen and she's comfortable with that. Still crawls in my lap every chance she can and spends time with me in the rec room in the lower level when I'm there. In the mornings she sits with Nancy in the living room until she gets ready for work. We discovered that she does NOT like cat videos. Nellie wasn't happy with the meowing coming from a video about Siamese cats. Nellie lets me pick her up and she cuddles in purring while I hold her. She loves looking out the window and still is fascinated by the laser toy.
Last night she dragged her feather toy into the office and dropped it at my feet for me to play with her. Something she has done frequently. Her personality is certainly blossoming. Sweet kitty.

So sorry this update took us so long!
When we first brought Willow home it took her a little time to adjust. We called her Slinky Cat for the first couple of days because she didn’t walk anywhere, she only slinked :) That didn’t last long though and Willow has absolutely made herself right at home.
She is still a cuddle bug but she has turned into an extremely playful cat. She loves tearing through the house at top speed, showing off her athleticism. She flies through the air after a feather wand toy and is just like a dog with her love for fetch. It doesn’t matter what it is, a ball, a crinkly cat toy, she will run after whatever you throw and bring it back with pride. Willow also loves to play soccer and will expertly kick the ball back to us. We are always surprised at how accurate she is. She is an expert at hide and seek as well. She has extreme patience and will pop out when you least expect it. And when she searches for us, her meows are something else. She makes the funniest sounds - she chatters, she trills, she chirps, she is such a talker. Willow is a smart kind beautiful cat. She constantly has us laughing and has brought us so much joy.
We can’t thank you enough for all that you do, especially the wonderful people that made this adoption possible. Thank you for entrusting this fantastic cat to us.

Our sweet, pretty girl is doing VERY well!! She is waiting @ the door when I go up to see her in the mornings now, and starts up a lively conversation the second I go into her room. What a chatty one she is! She has also developed quite the appetite, and has been regularly eating her 1/4 cup of dry IAMS in the morning and another 1/4 cup in the evening, plus a TBSP or two of the 'mushy stuff' in the evening as well, and of course, a treat here & there :) She has also been using her litterbox without fail, so no issues there, I'm happy to report ;)
She's become very curious about everything in her room / my office, and has pretty much checked out every inch of the area. She's also been looking more interested in exploring the adjacent hallway in the last few days, so I'm hoping we'll be letting her out & about in other areas of the house soon.
I did take the advice both you and Marjorie gave me about rubbing towels on them, switching out toys they had each played with, etc. and letting them sniff each other out a bit, so I think they are both getting a little more familiar with each other -- they both definitely now know that there's 'another kitty' about! She had her first Vet appt. w. our vet tonight, and so I am hoping to have her out a little bit tomorrow to see what she thinks about some more of the house.
And what a little cuddlebug she's becoming! She likes to hang out in my lap in the evening while I'm working on my laptop (she's curled up in my lap and purring away as I type this :) What an absolute doll! Everyone at the Vet's office just ohh'ed and ahh'ed over her -- how beautiful she is, how sweet she is, how good she was during her exam. etc. She was due for a distemper shot, so we got that out of the way tonight, and they said everything else looks great! So now they have all of her copies of all of the info from her last vet in their files and she (hopefully) won't have to go back 'til her annual check-up next year. And she must be eating well, as she is up to 8 lbs!
She has also started to allow my husband to come in to see her now too -- she was very shy with him for about the first week and would hide whenever he came into the room -- but now she'll allow pets and cuddles from him too, and they are getting on quite well now. He isn't one to 'gush' over kitties, but he's absolutely enthralled by this one! She really is a lovely little sweetheart!
She does like to be up high, I've noticed -- she has grown quite fond of sitting on top of the wardrobe - it's over five feet tall and she loves to perch on top of it and survey the room from there. She has also started playing with her toys in the last week, and is just generally more playful than at first. She's just getting on splendidly!

The beautiful little girl is doing GREAT! She finally got up the courage to come out of her room, and explore the hallway and stairs, but she was very jumpy @ first and would run back to her room at the slightest noise or movement, etc.
However, Mulan has been getting far more daring in the last 2 weeks, and is becoming far more comfortable when out and about. She’s is now familiarizing herself with several of the other rooms in the house, and is curious about EVERYTHING she sees. She’s so funny and cute to watch as she explores!
And she is becoming so much more cuddly than she was at first! She really likes laps, and is no longer at all shy about hopping into your lap and demanding scritches or just flopping down for a nap. And it makes absolutely no difference what you’re doing at the time, because it’s time to pet her NOW :) I’ve had to become far more proficient at using a mouse with my left hand, as well as typing with one hand when working on my laptop, since Mulan has a tendency to wrap her little forearms around my right arm and hold on while she’s laying in my lap, and usually ends up with her little chin resting on my wrist - a very comfortable position, but sometimes not conducive to getting a lot of work done : )
Mulan and Matthew are becoming buddies as well. Overall, she is so much more relaxed and not nearly as aloof as she was in the first week or two. She is also far more playful now and can be absolutely hysterical to watch when she’s playing with her toys. She really likes the feather-tease things, and I’m always amazed at how high she can jump when we’re playing! She has gotten kind of moody once or twice, which is par for the course but those little stints didn’t last very long; She is very easy to read and on those couple occasions, we just left her alone, and she comes around pretty quickly and in no time is as sweet as ever.
We let her and Mangia check out each other’s rooms the other night, and the two of them have had a couple of brief chaperoned encounters in the hall. The first couple of times, Mulan stared at Mangia for a few minutes and then ran under her chair in her room to hide. The last time she didn’t run away as quickly and they had a conversation (would love to know what they were saying to each other). No one seems overly upset or aggressive or anything yet, so we’ll keep the little steps going slowly, and see where we end up!

Mulan was great from the get-go, and is still getting better and better! And yeah, I know what you mean... she has gotten comfortable enough to go into her 'tough stance' occasionally, and I love her for trying, but you're right, she's not the toughest little kittie in the world, that's for sure :) But I'm so glad to at least see her TRYING to be 'tough kitty' once in a while and overcoming her initial fears.
She still runs to her 'safe' room occasionally when something startles her, but she only runs under her original 'hiding' chair once in a great while now. She has now explored the stairs, the hallway, the bedroom, the loft (our version of a family room), the bathrooms, the laundry room, etc. and she now has full reign of all of them. She runs about like she's lived here for years! She did NOT like the washing machine @ first -- I think the noise it makes scared her -- but even that doesn't seem like a big deal now.
She really does have a lovely but very funny personality! She's been keeping us in stitches with her antics now that's she's loosened up a bit more. She is hysterical when she's playing!
She's eating VERY well – We’ve increased her daily allotment of food, since she’s eating more heartily and has started to gain a bit of weight. r I dare say she's put on at least a lb. since her last vet visit, though don't tell her that :) She also is partial to certain treats, which probably isn't helping, though we try not to dole them out TOO frequently. Her litterbox habits are still impeccable as well.
And she is becoming a very loving little kitty -- she's more of a lap-cat than she seemed at first, which is fine with me, but she is also very independent, and likes roaming around a good bit too -- a perfect mix!
And oh my, you were so right about her being a talker! What a chatty one! She's very Siamese when it comes to keeping up a conversation.
I'm surprised things are going pretty well with Mangia too. They had a few initial conversations, and then he started getting very territorial and cranky whenever she came around -- we stepped them back a little at that point, and went back to having them out at separate times, so he wouldn't feel as threatened, and she had more time to get comfortable with her environment w/out him around.
Then when we started integrating again, SHE started getting confrontational with him, and we did have some rather vocal spats -- She would run up and swat at him with her paw, and would be promptly told 'NO', with prompted her to run back up to her room and pout. Occasionally, he'd run at her, and be told 'NO', which prompted her to run back to her room and pout (he would creep to a corner and pout as well).
I was thinking we would need to step them back again, but then in the last week or so, they've started behaving a little better around each other -- they will each growl and whine a little when the other one comes into the same room, but they've became much more tolerant. But you know how cats are -- it all depends on their mood at the time -- one would express interest in the other, the other one would ignore them, or fuss, depending on their mood, and vice-versa.
I think they are still in the process of establishing their roles, etc. so I'm trying to let them sort it out, as long as no one goes into attack mode. One will posture, and the other will posture or run, depending -- there's been a lot of back and forth. It seems pretty even so far though, and they are taking turns at who postures and who runs. I think they'll figure it out eventually. Mulan does seem to have some diva tendencies, as you had mentioned, and I think Mangia's familiar with that scenario after living with Penelope for so many years, and they do seem to be working through it (without any bloodshed so far :)
They are now to the point though, that they both come down with us to hang out and watch TV and such in the evening. Usually it's uneventful now and they are both fine -- other nights, one will get fussy and pick on the other one (if they fuss too much, one or both go back to their separate rooms for a while -- which no one seems to like, since they are both very social kitties). They also, when both are in an agreeable mood, are starting to go into 'butt-sniffing' mode at times, etc. which I've never quite understood personally, but I think is a good sign :)

Mulan and Mangia are both doing well. They aren’t exactly the best of friends, but they are starting to play together a bit. Very Reassuring to see this level of interaction w/out all of the fussing that went on before. They are even now starting to sleep in the bed with us together -- Mangia will take his usual spot, somewhere around my knees or sometimes up a bit higher -- and Mulan, who used to get in bed with us only when he was not around, is now ok with hopping up on my chest, pretty much right next to Manj, and napping without a problem. I'm really amazed we've all gotten so much sleep in the last few days, but everyone seems to be pretty comfortable now.

I guess I REALLY owe an update on Mulan! You'll be glad to know she is getting on swimmingly! She's acclimated really, really well -- you'd think she's lived here all of her life! She has gotten over all of her initial fears, and seems to be very happy.
We are as well -- she has just blossomed and is such a sweet and loveable little kitty!
She does have her diva moments -- but we're all pretty much used to her little spells and tantrums now -- although now that she's more relaxed, they seem to be a bit less frequent.
She is very independent, and she can be picky about petting sometimes -- she doesn't like it when she doesn't want it, but she's very communicative, so you KNOW when she's not feeling very friendly. But when she is, look out!! She's a complete little cuddle when she's in the mood, which is most of the time.
My husband still can't get over how beautiful she is -- and he tells her all the time! Just what we need, a diva kitty with a swelled head :) They are getting along great, and she does love compliments!
And she likes to be in charge -- she directs any and every activity :) Although she didn't care for the washing machine at first (she REALLY didn't like the noise it makes) she's gotten over that,
and likes 'helping' with the laundry now -- of course, her version of helping involves 1) laying on the clean laundry 2) standing on whatever item you're trying to fold and 3) hopping into open dresser drawers as you're putting clothes away :) Much appreciated, but things take a little longer when she helps -- which is ok, 'cause she is just too cute!
I think even Mangia would agree! You would not believe how well they are getting along!
That certainly wasn't the case for the first several months & it has been a long slow process. But they are both sleeping in the bed with us every night now (sometimes right next to each other :) I can understand now how she reportedly got along so well with the male cat she used to live with. Mangia and she are not only be getting along a lot better, they seem to have become buddies :)
They have even started grooming each other! I was stunned the first time I witnessed that, but Mulan is revealing herself to be quite the little mother hen at times... She's prone to giving Mangia a good, long tongue-bath (and us too at times :) -- and Mangia just dotes on her, licking her neck and cuddling up next to her -- when she allows it, of course :)
We still have occasional fussing and spats when one of them is cranky, but that's to be expected. They've evolved into kinda a sibling relationship ...they argue sometimes, and will sometimes compete for attention, but they seem to really have started to bond with each other. They eat out of each other's dishes and are sharing litter boxes amiably too, and everything is going even better than I had hoped.
And speaking of bonding, she and I have really hit it off -- She's my girl!
Matthew will look @ the two of us sometimes when she's purring and kneading in my lap and say "Wow, that cat LOVES you!" (it's mutual of course:) Although she'll curl up next to Mangia @ night sometimes, her favorite sleeping spot is (for better or worse) RIGHT on top of me --she's my girl, after all! No matter if I'm laying on my back, or side, or stomach -- she just hops right up, right around my shoulders, or chest, and kneads away, and then settles down into a little ball on top of me and falls asleep. And it's actually pretty comfortable for both of us :)
I can't tell you how much I LOVE this little girl!! Thank you so much for bringing us together!!

Hi there!!
It's been quite a while, so I just thought I'd touch base with you to let you know how well everything is still going with Mulan!
Mulan & Mangia both had their had their annual check-up with the vet a few months ago and they are both in great shape with a clean bill of health. She is up to 9 lbs now, but still looking slim and svelte. She has such long legs! We're happy that she's gained a little weight -- she was SO little when we first got her.
And it’s so funny now to think back to when we first got her. When she first got home and we opened her Pet Taxi, she just sat there - then eventually crept out and promptly set up camp under a skirted chair. She wouldn’t come out if we were in the room, and would only stare at us (or close her eyes and look away) if we lifted the skirt to check on her. Matthew set up a webcam so we could check on her remotely while we were at work, just to see if she came out to explore when we weren’t there – sure enough, she eventually did (he emailed me a still pic the first time to let me know ‘Mulan is roaming’ : )
Then she tried to be ‘tough kitty’ after getting over her initial fears. The first time she encountered the cat gate (kinda like a baby gate, only much taller), she immediately decided that she would just leap over it – which didn’t work, but she did manage to knock it partially over, scaring the crap out both her and Mangia (We checked for injuries, and only her pride was hurt) but no one has tried to leap the gate since. But at least she tried, and it was kind of nice to see her approaching things with such determination and courage.
And now there’s just no stopping her! There’s not even a hint of the scared little kitty we first met.
And she’s actually developed into being ‘tough kitty’ when she feels she has to be – granted, she’s so sweet, and still not quite really tough kitty, but she certainly plays a good game of it now. She’s VERY determined about everything she does.
She now just does and says what she wants, when she wants. And she says a lot! She is really quite the talker. Sometimes she REALLY lets you know she has something to say; other times, she just wants to chat. She carries on a conversation like no other cat I’ve ever known –even previous Siamese kitties, and even Mangia, who’s pretty chatty himself. I’ve started to look forward to talking with her when I get home from work. It’s like a thing now – She tells me about her day, I tell her how mine was…and then Manj tells us all about everything on his mind as well : ) It’s kind of funny when the two of them both have to say everything to you at once the second you get in the door!
Everyone who has ever seen her has commented on how beautiful she is, and she really is an absolutely gorgeous cat. She is very aware of this - and yeah, she’s still kind of a textbook diva sometimes…but that’s only one aspect of her, and it’s her quirky personality that’s really totally won us over.
She’s just so…Mulan! Everything, from the way she flicks her tail, to the way she tosses her toys in the air, the way she trots towards you when you call her, the way only certain bird sounds make her jump up and run to the window, the way she rests her chin on you when she’s relaxed - There’s just a little Mulan-ism in every ‘usual’ cat thing she does. We just love her so much!
She and Mangia are now confirmed friends. Penelope was not nearly the Diva Mulan has turned out to be, so I think Manj needed a minute to figure out how to react to this new kind of kitty – and of course, Mulan needed some time to work out her stance regarding Mangia as well. They eventually figured out between them about how things are supposed to work, and things have worked since.
Mulan likes some toys, at least when she’s in the mood for them, but Mangia is so exuberant about them that he tends to hog most of them. She’s strangely timid in this respect (she’s not regarding just about anything else anymore) and she seems to be ok to letting him play with whatever he wants, though she’s right on the one she wants the second he wanders off elsewhere. They both like feather wands, and that can get a bit competitive, so I try to get some playtime in with just her and the wand when he’s preoccupied with something else, and vice versa.
But a new box is ALWAYS hers first (we always give them the empty box whenever we get anything delivered – what is it with kitties and cardboard, anyway? ) They’ll both check it out, but Manj is to be ok with letting her have it, be ‘Kitty in the Box’ first, etc. even if he jumps into it as soon as she loses interest. They’ve worked all of this stuff out, it seems, and they are now just the best of buddies.
Quite frankly, I don't know how they would live without each other now. They've become really tight - -- they nap together, eat together, hang out together, play together, groom each other regularly ... honestly, these two are a match made in heaven! I'm SO glad all of this worked out, because they don't just get along, as I had hoped – they really, really LIKE each other now. Mulan is always fussing over him, cleaning him up etc., cuddling up with him - and though she can still be quite the diva at times, he can soften her up pretty easily. And Manj just totally LOVES her! I almost can’t believe how well everything has worked out - We are all just so happy : )

Hi everyone!
Everyone here is doing well, and we hope you are too!
Mulan has us smiling all of the time. She loves to roll around – on the floor, on the couch, and especially on clean sheets. It’s become impossible to put fresh sheets on the bed without shutting her out of the bedroom. (My last Siamese, Penelope, always HAD to be involved in this chore as well, though her hang-up was smoothing the sheets with her front paws, rather than rolling on them) The second we let Mulan back in, she hops and the bed and just rolls and rolls, with the most satisfied look on her face. She still likes high places occasionally, but doesn’t jump and climb as much as she once did. She’s 11 now, and she’s usually happy enough on solid ground, esp. if it’s near a window. She especially likes the cat steps in their ‘cat office,’ which are right next to the window.
She still hates the vaccum cleaner, though it no longer causes her to flee in terror at the sight of it and it’s now only regarded with a disdainful look, flattened ears, and a haughty march off to another room.
She’s completely unfazed by guitars now, as well as the banjo and mandolin, and will curl up right next to Matthew while he’s playing. But she absolutely HATES the concertina – she’s out the second she even sees that thing, so no one touches that now if she’s in the room.
And I’ve become pretty adapt at doing most everything with her draped across my shoulder, as this has become her favorite mode of transport. Why should she walk when she can ride around on her person? It’s really funny when she asks for ‘uppy’ as we now call it - she’ll knead at your calf and stare at you intently, followed by a little faux-leaping motion, which means she wants to be held / carried. If she’s not riding on me, she’s walking with me – or sitting on me, or laying on me - and commenting most of the time : ) She sleeps on me (sometimes next to, but usually on) every night. She’s become my soulmate kitty, and I just love her so much. And she’s the only cat I think I’ve ever had who actually likes to sleep under the covers. During the day, her fav spot, besides a lap, is sitting on the heat vents, esp. the one in the bedroom - She really likes to be warm.
Though she’s very social with us now, she still isn’t really comfortable with most guests, and usually still hides when ‘other people’ come to visit, at least at first. If we’re hanging out watching a movie or something, she’s inclined to curl up on my husband’s lap (granted, he’s got a better lap than me ; ) She’s an equal opportunity kitty, and will cuddle with either or both of us, when she’s in cuddle mode, and she loves Matthew as much as me. She still has an independent streak, and she still likes to go off and explore. But though she occasionally likes her moments to herself, she’d much rather be overseeing what the rest of us are doing, and just about everything that anyone does around here is done under Mulan’s watchful eye (and running commentary : ). She does NOT like it (although she oversees it nonetheless) when Mangia gets his nails trimmed. She paces and growls during the whole procedure, and rushes over to check him out when it’s all done (she’s not much of a fan off having her own trimmed either).
Mulan and Manj are like an old married couple now. They’ve really bonded with each other. And they’re quite the pair – if you call one, there’s a good chance both will come running. They assess the birds outside the window as a team (if one of them runs to the window, the other is usually right behind). At dinner time, they run up the steps in sync, head by head (like my sister’s golden retriever brothers used to do) - and they fall asleep on each other all the time : )

Mulan is absolutely priceless, and has been a wonderful addition to our family – She’s my girl! She’s been a wonderful friend to me and my husband, and the perfect companion for our kitty, Mangia. They became the best of friends, and were very bonded - They hung out together constantly.
Both Mangia and Mulan had been diagnosed at their last annual vet check with Stage 2 CKD. We made some dietary changes, and both seemed to be doing well.
But we suddenly lost our dear Mangia last week to what they suspect was a combination of pancreatitis and IBD/Lymphoma. His symptoms came on pretty quickly, and we tried every treatment they recommended. He rallied for a week or so, but then went downhill suddenly, within a matter of hours, and passed away in the ER despite their efforts. He was 19, and we were devastated. We miss him so much!
Despite his other ailments, Mangia’s kidney function had stayed about the same, but sadly, after her vet check-up last week, Mulan’s has gotten worse. She’s been eating only prescription food now, and is on meds 2x times a day in pill form, with minimal fuss (Benazepril + Amiodipine, plus more fish oil capsules, and an occasional dose of Miralax for constipation, when necessary). She is still chatty, playful, and active, and has been her usual cuddly, and still sometimes diva-ish self ; ) Her appetite is good, and we’re been optimistic thus far; she’s going back this week for another follow-up appt, and more bloodwork. But this, on the heels of losing one of our oldest, best friends, this just has us reeling. And she and I have become so, so close – I can’t bear the thought of losing her too.

Mulan was almost angry when Mangia was very sick. Strangely, as bonded as they were, when he was at the vet’s every day, she would growl and hiss when we brought him home at night. I’m now thinking it’s because he smelled weird to her, and in retrospect, I think we probably should have taken her along to the vet with him, so at least the smells wouldn’t seem so foreign to her – But maybe the illness, the IVs and meds would have still set her off as though it was a different cat, and not her Mangia.
Mulan has become even more vocal, and almost ‘clingy’ since Mangia has been gone. True to the breed, she’s always very affectionate, and she’s always been a talker. But now she talks incessantly, unless she’s being held or sitting/laying on one of us (then she just purrs and purrs). She’s just not happy being left alone at all now, it seems. We thought at first maybe she wasn’t feeling well, and mentioned it to the vet, but she never really appears to be not feeling well. And she’ll pace the bathroom where Mangia hung out when he was very sick (never a particular hang-out place for either of them prior to all of this) and calls repeatedly.
I suspect maybe she’s looking for him, at least to some extent, but I don’t know that I understand her way of missing him v. mine. I still think I hear the creak of the kitty accommodation steps, and look up expecting to see him…when you lose anyone who’s been literally at your side for 19 years it’s impractical to think you’re not going to see some ghosts. Though she’s not been with him quite as long, they were very close, and I tend to think she kind of feels the same thing I do, in her way. We are thinking maybe getting another kitty might be good for her, but I think it’s just too soon for all us yet. And we don’t want to cause her any more stress right now either.
Physically she seems to be doing ok, though she’s been drinking and peeing more than usual lately. Her Vet appt on Monday went pretty well, though her blood pressure is a bit high, and they did do a round of Sub-Qs to make sure she was sufficiently hydrated (they shaved a portion of her tail, and it looks awful :( But she is eating well, and is otherwise healthy. They want to do more blood work in about 3-4 weeks, to make sure all is still ok.

Another bloodwork check last week, and she’s seemed a little ‘off’ the last few days, particularly lethargic after her morning meds in the last week. She usually perks up later in the day, and the last couple of evenings ran around with her fav ‘ferret’ toy (whatever that thing is :) in her mouth. We were hoping maybe a tweak to the meds would help. But she actually seemed ‘sick’ on Thursday, laying curled up in a ball, not getting up except to drink/pee/drink/pee – then lay back down in a little ball on the bed.
We went back to the vet again today, and her last round of bloodwork had come back way high in too many areas to be hopeful. I was shocked. She seemed completely fine less than a week ago, and I had assumed her treatment was helping, at least slowing the progression of the illness.
The vet offered to put her put to sleep right then, and that completely floored me - I was not expecting that, and there was just was no way I could do that yet. Though I understood that she wasn’t really going to get better, I thought we were at least stabilizing her and assumed she’d be with us for a while yet. But put her to sleep NOW?? They said we could alternatively consider a round of IV / fluid treatments, which would, potentially, buy us a week or so – but would involve in/out hospitalization for several days (they weren’t equipped to do any of that there and then) and then we’d have to take her back for another round in another week or so, as her kidney function was so devastated. It sounded so much like what we had just gone thru with Mangia, where we took him to and from a clinic every day for a week, and I feel like we just made him miserable for an extra week, while he spent hours enduring the shaving of various body parts, injections, IVs, etc., to no avail (and her prognosis was really bad, worse than Mangia’s initially was). We really didn’t want to put her through all of that – it just felt so selfish, like it was for our benefit, rather than hers…but we couldn’t quite rule it out just yet, if there was a chance it would help.
We got her more Sub-Qs, and they gave her a pain shot just in case, and I took her home, hoping for any sign of improvement, just a hint she might get a little better, at least feel a little better…
We ended up taking her to the ER two days later, and the ER vet said essentially gave us the same options, but by then Mulan had deteriorated further, was barely getting up from our bed, was peeing on the floor (something she had NEVER done the whole time we had her), had started vomiting more frequently, and was having problems standing up or walking without stumbling or tipping over (seeing that just broke my heart). She had started to refuse any food, even treats. If that was the kind of time we would be buying for her, it didn’t seem like something she would want. And she had stopped purring, at all.

It’s with a heavy heart that I write to tell you that we’ve lost our little Mulan, on Easter Sunday, 2019. I can’t begin to say how I feel right now - I have no words. And I can’t imagine how I’ll ever sleep, without her curled up on my chest. She was 14 and has been with us for almost 8 years. There’s no way to describe how she filled our hearts, or to describe the huge hole she left in them when she passed. We miss her so, so much already. Rest in peace, my lovely little Mulan monkey Neenu-kitty. We’ll love you forever! And say hi to Manj for us when you two meet up again of the other side of the bridge. You know you are our best-favorites, always …
