Did I really say we were looking for 'in your face' Siamese? SCRC certainly found us that! And not just in our faces, but in our dog's face as well. From the first introduction Sasha let our Belgian Malinois know that she was not going to be pushed around by any 60# dog. Recently I gave Gracie the dog a rare people food treat in her bowl. Sasha raced under Gracie's legs to see what was in the bowl first. When Gracie picked the bowl up and tried to walk away with it, Sasha followed her and pulled the same trick multiple times. I finally had to pick Sasha up so Gracie could enjoy her snack.

Sasha definitely thinks she runs the show around here. Don't get up early enough for her and she will sit on your shoulder and let out a loud meezer meow right into your ear. Try to take a shower in peace and she paws at the bathroom door until it opens and will peek at you through the curtain. If I am working at my desk and there is not enough room for her to squeeze on to my lap, she will jump on to my back Ninja style. She will follow you room to room to see what you're up to and don't even consider leaving food unattended in her presence. Sasha will eat anything, be it human, dog or cat food. She still manages to keep her super svelte figure though through all the play. Sasha particularly excels at a wand game called 'Da Bird'. She scampers, runs, launches, leaps and slides across the kitchen floor tirelessly. She snaps that Bird out of mid air with amazing accuracy. It's a good thing she is an indoor girl because the live birds wouldn't stand a chance. She is a delightful, entertaining imp and we are so fortunate to have her in our lives. Three cheers for SCRC!

SILAS
I'm a very nice cat - an innocent victim of a bad economy. My former owner loved me enough to know that Siamese Rescue could find me a better home than she could provide. I'm very friendly, very laid back, and lived with other cats and a dog. No issues here - I eat what you give me, soak up the attention you give me, just love those catnip toys, and use my box like a good boy. Better pictures of me coming soon - I want attention, not this posing for pictures nonsense.

Notes from Home
One month with the big boy! He has turned out to be a real charmer. Big, affectionate, playful, nosy, funny. He is all of these things every day. As far as our house is concerned, he came out of the carrier ready to move in. He immediately seemed at ease and happy. It was as if he has lived here all along. After a bumpy start with Sasha, our other little girl adoptee from Indianapolis, the two are now getting along famously, with him giving her a daily licking about the head and shoulders, and she doesn't mind. He had a little trouble with loose stools the first week, but with Siri's expert advice he has rebounded well. His first trip to the vet brought on lots of crying in the carrier, probably thought he was hitting the road again for another change of home. Once in the exam room though he settled down and went into nosy mode and checked out everything he could get into. He is in very good health and gained a pound since he moved in, tipping the scales at 13.5 lbs. This is most likely due to the fact that he was eating Sasha's food as well as his and prompted instructions from the vet to limit his access overall. So we now have him on scheduled meal times and unfortunately for poor Sasha she pretty much has to follow suit to keep him from her dish. Naturally he is not happy about this! Ah, well, better for him in the long run. Once word got around the vet's office that 2 new meezers were in house, all the techs had to come check them out. Of course Silas loved this! Both cats made their way into our bed at the first opportunity and sleeping hasn't been the same since. Lots of jockeying for position and cats-off-to-the-races at least once a night. I have my alarm set for 6:45, but lately the wake-up walk around the bed has started every morning at 6:00, wanting food bowls produced for breakfast. What a hoot these two are! We're loving every minute of it. I am uploading some new pics of him. Tough to get really good pictures because Mr. Nosy runs up when he sees the camera and has to rub against the lens barrel.

March 24,2012: So now it's time for the 6 month update. In most ways with Silas, things are very much the same. He still is nosy and playful and just seems to love being here. We are still trying to keep his weight under control, but mostly that seems to be preventing any more gains, as I'm pretty sure he hasn't lost any weight. One area where there has been real change is his appearance. He has become an even more handsome rogue than when we got him. A note we got from SCRC HQ on transport day indicated that he looked like he was dusted all over and that we would love him. Both statements were correct. There was even some debate whether he was a chocolate or a seal. He is a short hair and when we got him his hair had a coarse feeling to it. In his previous home he was one of many animals and didn't get the best of food, attention, or a clean environment. Now after six months of healthy food and regular use of the Furminator his still short hair is silky smooth and soft and his tips have darkened and spread. The dusty look has given way to a much more solid coloring and he appears much more like a true seal point. He is very sociable and will come to check out anybody who comes to the house. He is even getting a little more accepting of our granddaughter, Jade, but there's still wariness of all that energy. With the arrival of our grandson in January, the changing table has reappeared, and both cats enjoy napping on its pad. The crib also has been a new found occasional place for siesta.
With the lovely but unseasonably nice weather we've been having, both cats have been enjoying the open windows. Neither cat is much of a lap cat, only making brief stays. It took our late Koko 2 years before she became a regular, so I guess we can wait for them to settle. Both cats usually sleep in our bed with Silas usually trying to snuggle up against one of our legs. He likes to "make biscuits" with the covers until they are tight against our legs and then pin them in place with his weight. It gets hard to change positions without dislodging him! If he is hungry or wants attention he wakes me up with head butts, purring, climbing on, and nibbling at my elbows and shoulders. He will get on my chest and lay down for petting and scratching, but food seems to be the motivation. They both get along quite well, but when they get in a wrestling match, despite the size difference Sasha is more aggressive even though he usually initiates the action. She smacks him around with reckless abandon. The bottom line is we still are enjoying him immensely and are very pleased we were able to get him with Sasha. I am getting some new pics up for him, so hopefully the change in appearance can be seen. Thanks again to everyone who was involved in his care and transport. He's a keeper! More later - Terry

SASHA
UPDATE: I'm getting so much braver and Daddy Vic says I am turning into a real sweetheart. I even let him shave in "my" room and we talk about what he is doing. Today, I had a big adventure. For the first time, I decided it was OK to venture out of "my" room and check out the other spaces up here at this nice Hotel delShue. The food is great, the view is nice, the room is sunny and bright and I'm starting to really feel at "home". Foster Mom keeps telling me that I'll have to be really brave and move to just ONE more home for the rest of my life. I'm beginning to think I have the courage to do that. Will you be the one who helps me be brave and learn that "my" new forever home is out there? I'll reward you with headbutts and cuddles. Be sure to ask about me, Sasha.

I've only been here for four days, but BOY have I made a lot of big changes. At first, I was VERY scared and hid behind the big white bowl in my foster room. I didn't want to come out to see anyone until last night when I came out to visit just a little with Mama LaShawn when she came for a visit. When Mama Katie came up today to take some pictures, I hid in my favorite spot for a while, but guess what - I got SO brave and came out to visit and to get lots and lots of pets. She kept telling me how proud she was of me and how brave I was. She also said that Mama Jen (she helped get me into rescue) would be thrilled to hear how much braver and happier I am. My owner had to give me up because she couldn't have two cats in her new living situation, so I went to rescue and my brother stayed with her. I miss him and I got very scared in so many new places, but now I am adjusting well. Just look at all my neat photos and see how much happier I am. I promise I will be a GOOD girl in your home and not hide if you will love me, pet me and give me time to adjust. I might even like to have another furry brother again some day soon. Purrs and headbutts, Sasha

Notes from Home
While I have been in direct contact with Cher, Katie, and Siri about Sasha (and Silas), I'm taking a few minutes here this morning to let anyone else who might have had contact with her know about how things are evolving. While on a daily basis the progress we have made in bringing her out of her shy/timid/frightened state seems painfully slow, looking at her now a month into her new home shows really how far she has come. She began, as at Katie's, behind the toilet in our first floor bathroom. But that ended after a few days and she hasn't been back since. She was a complete night owl and we felt at first that we had just adopted a new born baby. Now she is more active during the day, but still confines that to our second floor. When she gravitated to the second floor that first week she spent 16 hours a day under the beds. With diligent attention to closing off the bedrooms, we have gently forced her to choose to stay in the second floor bathroom closet ( where we can make contact with her) or the hallway and the computer room. (At this moment she has walked in to rub against my legs - BIG move this week) With the integration of Silas, she hangs out in the hallway more now to keep an eye on him, so he has helped bring her out of her shell. She rarely comes down to the first floor after sun-up, but shows up every evening, plays some, but mostly just hangs out. She still starts at a variety of harmless sounds. She still prefers us in a crawling or prone position, but is shying away less when we are upright, as long as we move by v e r y s l o w l y. We took both cats in for their vet visit last week and that went fairly well. We were very concerned it would be a set back for her and that she would hide for days, but by the evening she was out and about like normal. She was extremely nervous, pushed up against Mary's belly and hid her head in the crook of Mary's elbow, and shed out lots of hair. Bottom line is she is quite healthy, weighs 8 1/2 pounds and doing well. They want us to start brushing both cats teeth to try to clear up some gingivitis. Can't wait to try that!
She is beautiful and dainty, but unfortunately I have no good pics of her yet because she hates my camera, a digital SLR. Someday.... Thanks to all who helped with her! More later - Terry

March 24, 2012: Six months ago we received our two new friends, Sasha and Silas. Time to update here how our little princess has come along since the above updates occurred. With the help of time, patience, and a little Feliway, she has blossomed into a very special little lady. She is approaching what might be called normal for a Siamese princess. First, while she still spends the majority of her time on the second floor, she now makes the run of the house except for the attic (Silas loves it there as did our late Koko). She will not try to climb the disappearing staircase to go there. She does come down to the first floor throughout the day, especially when there is activity in the kitchen. Thanks in part to Mary feeding her little bits of boiled chicken, she has become a mooch. She seems to think that anytime food is being prepared she should be able to get perks. Fortunately she still weighs about 8 1/2 lbs. so she isn't packing on the pounds. We can't keep her dry food bowl out because Silas will pig out, so she doesn't get to eat unless we are with her to put her bowl down and retrieve it when she finishes. This was instituted for Silas's weight control (he weighs nearly 15 lbs), but we believe it has benefited her as well. She is even more beautiful now than when we got her. Probably due to Mary's work with the Furminator, Sasha shines and is so soft it's just a joy to stroke her hair. She has become outgoing enough that she will come downstairs when we have visitors and let herself be seen (is that diva talk?) and will even interact some with regulars like my sister and our older son. But when our granddaughter Jade is here, Sasha disappears. Just too much energy there. With the arrival of our grandson in January, the changing table has reappeared and both cats find the pad a nice place to nap. One area where she isn't very Siamese-ish is the talking. As in there isn't any. Rarely when we are getting their wet food ready in the evening, she has let out a little squeak of a mew. At it's loudest it's that of a kitten's. Purrs loud and proud, but no talk. Leg rubs have taken an interesting turn. Instead of leading with her head, she walks just close enough to make contact with her hair. Then just before moving by she will pause, briefly hook my leg with her tail, then move on. Sort of a stealth rub.
With the lovely but unseasonably nice weather we've been having, both cats have been enjoying the open windows, Sasha especially liking the one in our bedroom at night. Neither cat is much of a lap cat, only making brief stays. It took Koko 2 years before she became a regular, so I guess we can wait for them to settle. Both cats usually sleep in our bed with Sasha preferring either to snuggle up against Mary's legs or curl up near our feet. If they are hungry or want for some thing else there's only one person they wake up, and that's me. They both get along quite well, but when they get in a wrestling match, despite the size difference she is more aggressive. She smacks him around with reckless abandon. Very funny. I have a few photos to upload, but she still shies away from my camera so nothing great there. She also still shies at the oddest little noises, but ignores other loud sudden sounds. Thanks again to all who helped bring us together. We look forward to continued improvements. Until next time - Terry

CAPTAIN KRINKLES
I had 79 brothers and sisters and while I'm pretty cat friendly, I'm not too sure about the human thing. If you are adopting as a friend for your cat, I might work. If you are adopting as a friend for you, you'll have to wait till I graduate from charm school. Stay tuned as I try to learn, but at this point I am still in nursery school!

Kindergarten here I come!
Don't know what to tell you, but I'm sailing through elementary school.....

My wonderful man, Captain Krinkles! Ever the big personality! First in line to greet you and ask for a rub down! His purrs are ever ready. Oh!! You're awake?? Well, pay attention to me!! Not one to be ignored. My chatty Captain loves to let you know where he is. Letting out a meow to see where you are. And isn't he a piggy! He and his sister, Tennille, enjoy each other's company with snuggles on chairs or in the sun or just running after each other. He is such a delicious, sweet baby! Every day is a happier one than the last! I look forward to coming home every day to be greeted by my sweet Captain and sweet Tennille!!

TENILLE
Small and shy, I'm from the same hoarder situation that Capt Krinkle came from - you can see him in my video. Whether or not we go together, we do each need to go with friendly pal cats, as we are quite cat oriented! I'm still a little shell shocked at being here but if I'm anything like the Captain, I'll blossom in no time!

My sweet little teacup! Tennille and her brother, Captain Krinkles, have become such a wonderful, natural addition to our home. She is ever inquisitive and is not one to turn down an opportunity to explore. Mornings begin with Miss Tennille jumping up on the bed by my head and patiently waits to have head scratched. She then melts into the bed until it's time to move on.....but then she finds her way back. I love this girl more and more every day! She is such a joy and blessing!!

WILLIAM
Hi

OK I've been medicated to the hilt however I'm now feeling soooo much better and off all medications and love to just play, play, play and play. I love on foster Meow in the morning and enjoy being held and purr up a storm, I even reach up to be held. I have had my education now too. Foster Meow says integration is good for us, but the first week it wasn't that great for me, I went all shy!!! Second week I'm loving it because I get some nice treats and that flying mouse is awesome. In fact, so awesome, I want to carry it to my room but it just keeps getting away from me! Why does it have fishing rod line attached to it???

FIONA
A vocal opinionated lady, I know what I like and like what I know. I'm typical very interactive Siamese gal, and I have a fairly strong personality, so I'm ideal as the only cat, but if paired with another cat, they had better be ready to worship the ground I walk on. (Please an outgoing, non political confident male would work well). I need a family with lots of time and energy for the cat, because I'm going to have my nose stuck into every bit of business that's conducted in the house!

We have kept her name as Fiona and she comes running wihen we call out to her. She is very active, demanding and pure joy to have around. She had a very firm stool, so at Siris' suggestion, I added a little pumpkin to her soft food. To my amazement, she loves it. I have not yet been able to determine if is helping her in that department, but, will keep a close eye on her. Now we are thrilled to be able to add Brian to our household in a week or two. Our deepest gratitude to SCRC, Siri & Darrell. Bless you.

3/22/12 Fiona had her annual exam yesterday. I had concerns about her habit of licking herself sore. The vet determined she has a skin disease and gave her a shot of cortizone. She slept like a rock last night and this morning all three of her sores were no longer inflammed and she has stopped licking them. She is a very sweet cat with lots of energy. She loves to watch the birds and squirrels that we feed on the patio so they get very close to the house. It's great fun for all the cats in the house and for us as well.

PRECIOUS
Well everyone says I'm a bit crabby.

I am.

Everyone says I'm a bit homely.

I am.

Everyone says I'm a bit of a mess.

I am.

But none of that means I shouldn't be rescued, does it?

I need a house where:
I can have my own room if there are other cats. I'm not big on exploring or movements, so a sunny window, comfy bed, and I'm good.
I can have a little one on one people interaction - it doesn't have to be much. I'm pretty much a solo cat, happy to nap in the sun.
I come with my bag of dry food, some wet food, and have no adoption fee. I'm just looking for a home.
My blood values are good, My coat is scruffy so regular brushing would be nice, but overall I'm a pretty easy keeper.

Are you my Rescue Angel?

February 25, 2012

Today is the three week anniversary for Precious' homecoming. She has settled in beautifully to the home, and she has already picked out several favorite spots in the home. She's happy and comfortable here, and she enjoys being around people.

From the start, she has been quite the explorer. She slipped out of her transition room on the first night here to check out her new house. She has been talkative and attentive, and she loves to be petted and brushed.

We continue to work with her on her ongoing health issues. She has been diagnosed with some kidney issues, which require special attention to diet and fluid intake. I never anticipated that I would be learning how to administer IV fluids, but things have gone very smoothly. Precious has been incredibly patient and appreciative of the attention. Surprisingly, she wants to love on us and be petted after her IV treatment.

She has been so sweet and loving. She loves following my kids around, and enjoys meeting guests at the home. She's turned out to be quite the social kitty!

March 21, 2012

I'm pleased to report that Precious has made wonderful progress in her recovery. She no longer requires her daily IV fluid treatments, which makes her very happy. She was beginning to feel like a pin cushion! Her appetite has also continued to show improvement. She is slowly gaining her weight back that she had lost and her fur is growing in nicely where it had been trimmed. She remains a happy, loving kitty.

JASPER
Hi! Zion here. I'm still looking for my forever home. I get along fine with other cats. I'm a little shy at first but I come around pretty quickly. I think I'd be happiest in a quiet home as your one and only or with another kitty or two.

Please ask about me?

Love,
Zion

Jasper is doing great. His bloodwork now is showing no signs of diabetes and with the exception of a stubborn bacterial rash that he's on antibiotics for, is in good health. His fur has gotten really soft and he's a very loving cat with the widest and most interesting vocabulary I've ever heard.. He loves to be brushed and get belly rubs. People at my vet's love him and think he's really cute. Most importantly, my other cat Tuna has accepted him as a part of the family. They both sleep on our bed at night and she doesn't hiss at him anymore - she actually seems happy to have him here.

2/16/10: Jasper is awesome! His skin has cleared up, his coat is full and silky and he is a clown! He loves playing tag with Tuna and laying on my desk while I am working. He's got such a weird and funny meow, he always makes us laugh, and is a great foot warmer at night. He has been such a perfect match for us. We're thrilled to have him.

Jasper passed away on 2/17/12 from intestinal lymphoma. We tried chemotherapy but the protocol failed. We miss him terribly, he was loved dearly. I'm heartbroken, and my current Siamese, Tuna, is still yowling about it. I bought a beautiful urn with a statue of a Siamese on it for his ashes, and some nice frames with photos of him. He was such a wonderful, loving, funny kitty, I feel absolutely devastated.

SIMONE
Lost, hungry, matted with dirt, I found myself in an outdoor cage at the shelter in sub-freezing weather with an ice storm moving in. Pretty rough times.
Know what I did in the middle of all that?
I purred.
And I purred.
And I purred. And the kind people at the shelter called foster mom to come see me as soon as the ice on the road melted, and again I purred, and I head-bumped, and I nuzzled and cuddled and greeted everyone at the vet's office as if we were all lifelong friends, and then I purred some more just in case anybody missed it the first time.

If I'm that sweet in the tough times, just imagine how sweet I'll be cuddled up safe and warm and HOME with you - and if I purred my way through an ice storm, I can certainly purr my way right into your heart!

Sorry to not have answered sooner on the 30-day adoption. Simone and "we" have adjusted really well. She is very affectionate. There are many differences between her and our dearly departed Simon - and that's a good thing!! It means she won't always be compared to him. Simone continues to be primarily attached to Emma, and that's a good thing, too!! My major concern is her stomach issue, which really hasn't gone away since before the adoption. Her stools are "extremely" odorous, and she passes a lot of gas - there's definitely something going on there! But she's ours now, and like a marriage, it's for "better or worse". We're glad she's here, and we'll always take care of her.

TWO YEAR UPDATE: Simone is doing really well. The only "problem" is her weight (as previously suspected by "foster mom"). We should have been more aware, but instead "free-fed" her, as we had our previous cat; but with "Simone, her weight balooned to 16 lbs! Since that time (a year ago), we've had her on a "diet" - only 1/3 cup of dry food /day(no snacks or wet food). She lost two pounds from last years checkup, so we're getting there, but it's a daily "battle" (she doesn't understand!) All in all,we're all happy together!!
