Lily has settled in quite well. We had a good, but long, trip from Virginia to Florida. We made several stops to allow Lily to move out of her cage while inside the car. Love, love, love her.

BALSAM
I am learning how to eat canned kitten food and kibble without depending on mom for my food. I am growing really fast but it will still be several more weeks before I am big enough to go home. I love to play and wrestle with my brother Quick and will need a play buddy in my new home. My points are still coming and so not easy to see all my cute little spots here and there. So keep checking back on me.

Balsam is a great kitten and has gotten HUGE. I haven't weighed him lately, but he's at least 11 pounds, maybe 12. He is extremely playful and loves water. He cries if we don't let him in the bathroom when we take showers and he's always playing in his water bowl. He also likes to carry a toy around in his mouth as he tears around the house growling. It's too cute for words. Balsam is a real joy to have around.

RAJAH
I'm baaaaaack!

My family loved me sooooo much, but I was just a little too much for their little girl kitty. I guess I didn't learn that 'no' really means 'no' in feline-girl-talk :-( I miss my little human Lily very much, and would love to go to a busy home where I can pester the big people, bounce around with the doggies, and have a fun, ruff n' tumble feline pal to scramble around with.

I had a recent run-in with ringworm, so I'm getting some medicine for the next few weeks. After that, I should be ready to go home in late April! CLEARRRRRRR your calendar!

Smooches! Riki.

Notes from Home
Both King (formerly Trump) and Rajah (formerly Riki, aka Naranja) have had their yearly wellness checks and their rabies and feline leukemia vaccines. Dr. Larry says they are 2 fat happy easy going cats. He is absolutely right. We have a well blended household with these 2 and our little feral rescue that we had when we got the 2 big boys. They play together, eat together and sleep together. Raj is the odd man out in the grooming. King and Scamp groom each other every day, with Scamp doing most of the work. He wraps his front legs around King's huge head and holds him down and washes his face thoroughly, including his ears. They all like to play, not only with each other, but also with us. Rajah's favorite toy is a ball that we throw for him to chase. Scamp likes to play fetch with bottle caps and King likes to play with the feather on the string. I am very grateful to siamese rescue for allowing me to include 2 such wonderful personalities in my household. I am also grateful to the dear Lord that these 3 cats integrated into our home and to each other with the ease that they did.. .

I pray that you will have many adoptive parents for the wonderful cats who need a loving forever home and that they will all be blessed with the joy that these 2 have brought to us. God Bless, Georgia Nelson, mother of King, Rajah, and Scamp.

KING
Are you looking for a larger-than-life, fabulous Meezer? Well, look no further! I'm a complete teddy bear - all 15.2 lbs of me! I love being petted & held, and I adore people. I am the best lap snuggler foster mom has ever met! I give kisses to humans and get along well with other cats, and I'm essentially purrfect in every way. My gentle nature would make me a good fit for a home with kids. Can we talk?
Purrs,
Trump, the "Big Apple"-headed guy

Notes from Home
King, formerly known as "Trump, is quite a cat. He has attached himself quite firmly to my husband and loves to sleep with his head tucked under Floyd's beard. He does give everyone in the family equal attention, right down to the grandchilden , who came to spend the weekend. I wish I knew where his off button was sometimes because he is most vocal and loudly demanding, particularly when he wants my husband to pick him up or when he wants someone to play with him. He plays likke a very young kitten. He and our other cat race thriough the house and tumble head over heels he loves to chase feathers and play with toys in general. He is very adept at opening doors to get to the person of his choice. He eats and drinks well. uses his litterbox well. is great at grooming himself, but he had so much loose hair we have really had to work at brushing him to get his cat in good condition, but it is really starting to shine. His ears are almost well now, when I cleaned them on Sat. there was just the tiniest hint os dark color on the swab. I feel that when the full ten days of treatment are up that the ears will be completely clear. thanks so much for such a wonderful cat.

Notes from Home
Romeo has been with me and my little seal point, Winnie, for around a month, and it is as if he has always lived in our home! He is a wonderful big boy and is a wonderful match for Winnie. Winnie is around half Romeo's size, but what she lacks in body type she makes up for in energy, wily moves, love of toys, and in overall zaniness. They play for hours and then spend more hours entwined for snoozing and grooming. They play "fight to the death" several times a day and race up and down the stairs. Romeo is getting his he-man physique back with all of the exercise. Long story short, Romeo is a terrific cat and I am so happy that he has made Vermont his home! Karen

DAISY MAE
Actually, my full name is Luckie Lexie Silver Slippers, but you can just call me Lexie for short. I am a lucky girl. Someone found me left behind in a garage with no food and nobody to hear me cry. It is sheer luck that I was even found and given a second chance. And I'm Lexie because foster mom watches Grey's Anatomy (the other Lexie wasn't so lucky!). And lastly I'm a petitle little Ragdoll with 4 little white (silver) slippers. And there you go! I'm as sweet at the day is long and want nothing more than to burrow into the crook of your arm and purr the night away. That is...unless you have catnip. In which case, all bets are off! Right now I'm not sharing my space with anyone, so I can't tell you how I feel about other animals. I'll let you know as soon as I decide.

Notes from Home
12/4/12

I just received an email from Nancy, the wonderful woman who interviewed us and helped us through the adoption process, and she told me that it was our 1-month anniversary with our wonderful Daisy Mae. It's hard to believe that she has been here for only a month because it feels like she has been a part of our family forever. She fits right in and has been such a joy. She's everything that her foster mommy described and more. I will say that she does not quite understand that I'm working from home right now because she is trying to get on my lap (where my laptop is) and is trying to help me type on the keyboard. :)

Daisy's foster had been calling her Lucky Lexie because she did not know what her prior name was. After finding out that her prior owner had called her Daisy and that Daisy responded to it, she notified me of that. We had not quite settled on a name for our beauty yet, but Daisy sounded perfect. We call her Daisy Mae because Mae was my husband's late paternal grandmother's name.

I will also note that our new family (we just got married on July 28th) has been having a rough time because my husband's older brother (and only sibling) passed away very unexpectedly of a ruptured aorta (unknown genetic issue) on August 23rd. He was only 30. Although I've had some grief issues, my husband has definitely had a lot more grief and depression. Daisy's presence has really helped with a lot of that. She will lay on his lap or at his feet in his "man cave," and they love playing with her teaser toy together.

Daisy's integration with our resident cat, Max, has gone well. There was a bit of hissing to begin with, but they are doing fine now. They lick each others' heads and play, although Daisy is more into the playing now than Max is.

Thanks again for giving us our baby girl! I have already recommended your rescue to several people who may be looking to adopt kitties within the next year or so.

12/7/12
I am just giving another update. Daisy is still doing well. She and Max are playing appropriately, and she loves to cuddle with us. If anything, she is helping to bring him out of timidness because he knows that there are now two kitties competing for attention. I am uploading two pictures. One of Daisy and I and one of Max and I. Nolan took these pictures about a week ago when we were decorating a Christmas tree.

5/6/13
I was going to try to wait a few days to type my update because I still have not figured out how to send the pictures I have taken on my new iPhone to myself, and all of the pictures of Daisy Mae are either saved to my husband's or my iPhone. It feels weird knowing that Daisy has only been with us for about 6 months because she fits in so well with our family that it is difficult to imagine a time without her. She definitely has my husband and I wrapped around her little paw, too. As noted by her foster mom, because Daisy came into Siamese Rescue because she had been neglected and not fed regularly, she lives for food. She sleeps with us most of the time, but even when she does not, she waits for one of our alarms to go off and/or for one of us to make the slightest movement, and then she begins her "breakfast song," which consists of her meowing and trying to guide us toward the kitchen. We give her the canned fancy feast first and feed her in the half bathroom near the kitchen because we found that when feeding her and her older brother Max is the kitchen, Daisy (1) ate Max's food before she finished her own and he would just let her eat it and/or (2) she would gobble really fast because she thought she would not get Max's leftovers if she didn't eat fast enough. (Note, Max just really likes the gravy and we let him just lick that because he is a Himalayan and it tends to help him digest food and have fewer hairballs). When we come home in the evening, Daisy meets us at the door and begins her "dinner song" until I give her dinner. She is very dog-like in that regard. She follows us to the door when we leave in the morning, and meets us at the door when we come in after work. When I have my work at home day each week, she "helps me work," by playing with my laptop cord, batting at my highlighters and pens, and sometimes trying to lay on my laptop if she thinks she's not getting enough attention. She and Max also really enjoy "sunbathing" by the sliding glass door in our living room and looking out the windows. She and Max lick each other and play, although Daisy will always be more playful than Max. It is also evident that she is quite bonded to Max. I had to take Max to the vet on Saturday, and my husband said that Daisy meowed and went from room to room after I took Max out in the carrier because she thought he had left. Upon his return, she obviously wanted to play with her brother.

Daisy is very affectionate and a people-centered cat, which is what we were looking for. She is super affectionate and loves to cuddle and be petted. When I get the chance to nap on the weekends, she will cuddle up against me. Similarly, when she sleeps with us, she will cuddle up on my side or sometimes at my feet, and then "biscuits" with her paws on the blanket to show her affectionate. We love our Daisy "biscuits."

At the same time, she also has a lot of energy and enjoys playing with anything and everything. For instance, my husband loves playing "baseball" with her, a/k/a laser pointer (he calls it baseball because like parents play baseball with their human children, he plays laser pointer with Daisy). She is quite the athlete--she will jump after the laser pointer on the wall, and we've learned to be careful of where we point it because she can jump really high. My husband often jokes that our daughter is going to be in the kitty Olympics because she is so athletic.

I will update more later and hopefully learning upload iPhone pictures, but I just wanted everyone involved to know that Daisy is happy and healthy, and that Nolan, Max, and I lover her more than the world. :)

5/12/13
This is my first Mother's Day with Miss Daisy. My husband and I celebrate, notwithstanding that our children have fur. I must note that I have had a horrible time with bronchitis this week, that came after some severe seasonal allergies and drainage, and Daisy has rarely left my side. She has always been lovey and tends to be near us, but she has been sleeping and nappy with me except when she needs to eat and use the restroom. Although she cannot take the sickness away, it warms my heart to wake up and see her still there watching over me. I tell her that she is the best caregiver ever, because she is.

SPICE
Do you need a little "Spice" in your life. Well, if you do, I'm your girl. I added a lot of Spice to my forever family, but unfortunately, it was too much "spice" for my new daddy. He had never been allergic to cats before, but I "spiced" up his life so much that he was having lots of trouble breathing. He and my new Mama did everything they could to keep me because they said I was just one of the best cats ever, but nothing helped. SO, after my 3 week "vacation" from Hotel delShue, I'm back and ready to try just one more forever home. I am still very sweet, very beautiful, very loving and very happy, but I do miss having my very own family to "spice" up their lives. I'm ready for my "third" kittenhood as my family said that once I got home to them, I finally decided to have a "kitten life" since all I'd done before in my life was have kittens - never had time to BE one. Now, I love to play with toys and other cats. PLEASE ask about me, so I can be the Spicy Kitten in your life. Purrs, headbutts and cuddles, Spice.

Spice has been in her new home for about an hour. She did amazing on the ride home! We got all her things in her new room and she has been checking everything out! She has already eaten, drank some water and she has even use her lifer box! She seems to be content! I am so happy to have her! I absolutely LOVE her! 11-9-2012. 11-23-12 Spice is doing great! It's like she's been here forever! She has brought us so much joy! She plays like a kitten and never fails to make us laugh! She is getting along well with our other cats but lets them know when she wants her own space! I will get some pictures posted soon. 11-29-12 Spice had her checkup the other day and she is doing great! Her weight is good! I was afraid she might have a setback when I took her to the vet but she did great and let me hold her the whole time. I think she trust me and knew I would take her back home! That really made me feel good! She has become quite the lap cat and doesn't protest when I pick her up! She is playing good with my other two cats! I am so happy I have Spice! 1-4-13 Spice is great! She wants to sleep with me and likes to sit on my lap all the time! I love it! She is so playful! When she goes in the bathroom she always jumps in the bathtub! She always wants to play in boxes no matter what size she tries to get in the box! She loves to sit in the picture window with Ellie! She plays well with both my other cats but sometimes her and my other female cat hiss at each other. I think its a female thing. She has come a long way since she got here! She is a very happy Kitty and we Love her so much! 6-9-13 I can't believe its been 6 months since we brought Spice home! Spice is such. sweet girl. She has definately bonded with me but she loves daddy too! I have taken Spice outside a few times with a harness and a leash! She does really good with the harness. She stays close to me and really likes going for walks in the back yard. I just love everything about Spice!

TITAN
You are not going to believe the doll baby I am!!!!! So what that I lived my life in a hoarder home with 25 other cats - it made me stronger! More interested in loving, and just a gem of a sweetheart! I started with so many cats, however, that now I want ALL your love and attention! Yup, I'm a big piggie in the attention department :) Sorry, so far I'm not sharing you with anyone, except the rest of your human family!

Titan has adjusted well to his new home, and he has decided it is HIS home. He runs around and plays and plays and plays some more. Everything is fair game to be a toy! He does not like to be picked up and held, but he will find his people wherever they are. He will snuggle up on laps on his terms, and he loves attention, more attention and playtime! His favorite room is the kitchen, because it gets the most sunshine, and because the top level of his scratching post gives him the best view of the outside.

GREEBO
Play? Snuggle. Play? Snuggle. Play?

I just can't decide! I love to do both! You see I grew up in a home with a gazillion other cats and no toys, and now I can't believe the wealth of fun goodies there are to play with! I think I've struck it rich! There are cat trees to climb, and furry mice to bat, balls to play soccer with and krinkle toys to ambush. Oh, and then there are naps, and being held upside down and kissed like a baby! Life Is GOOD!

It's about time, because my earlier life took its' toll on me! My hind legs are weak and wobbly, but as my muscles strengthen, so do my legs. While I won't ever be perfect I will be PURRfect!

I had so much competition in my first home I just don't want to share, so lots of humans are great, but other cats, no thanks. Do you have lots of toys though? Cuz I'm going to need those!!!! And lots of kissing, loving, and carrying around!

Notes from Home
It's been two weeks already and we are all well trained. Beenie is now Greebo. Greebo is a cat in Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. Our Greebo is already living up to his name as a real character.

The ride back to Pennsylvania from Virginia Center was uneventful. He had to check out the car at our first break and then he was quiet and slept the rest of the trip. When we got home, he was introduced to my office where his litter box is located. He has been eating and using the box on a regular and predictable manner. He was very pleased to explore the rest of the house and seemed to approve of it all. He still stays in his room whenever we are not home. I don't trust him to stay off the kitchen counter and table, yet.

We did take a roadtrip to our shore house. That was an adventure. Greebo was not sure so he burrowed into a comforter with a pillow as a roof. He then stuck his head out to watch us work. He dozed but he kept an ear out for anything worth checking out. We are restoring the house after Hurricane Sandy pushed 17 inches of water inside. He slept with me on a single bed in a bedroom that night. It was such a tight squeeze that he slept on my pillow. I awoke in the morning to find him washing my hair.

He did not like the vet looking at his ears and he quickly found my lap for protection. She was surprised and pleased to see how quickly he had bonded to me.

We now have a routine with play times and cuddle times. He has three modes- play and cuddle. Don't mix them up, please. His third mode is "you-have-not -fed-me- for -weeks, get-the-food-out-NOW!" He is still very thin but not as bad as when he first came to us. I have added about a tablespoon of hard food mid afternoon to get him to dinner time. He asks for it when he has been romping and playing.

He is now sleeping on the arm of the couch waiting for me to head to bed, He will get his overnight dry food and then he will come to bed with me. At 4 am, I will get up to go to the bathroom. When I return, he will lick my hands and face to encourage me to play. I hide under the covers to go back to sleep. He is persistent. Fortunately, my husband gets up an hour later. Greebo helps him get ready and they have great conversations. They are both morning souls.

Greebo is still the ping pong champion. He chases the ping pong balls throughout the main floor with gusto. Once we move all the boxes back to the shore house, he will miss the obstacle course. I fish out stuck ping pong balls from corners all day long. He comes to get me to help him. He is really blossoming into a happy, confident cat. He cuddles on his terms but he follows me throughout the house all day long.

Enough for now. TIme for bed. Pam and Greebo at midnight on April 16, 2013.

I think Greebo is happy. He spends all day as my shadow until the ping pong balls call too loudly. Then he is off, chasing ping pong balls around the house. He even has me trained to come sweep a yard stick under the couch and love seat to free the poor ping pong balls. He shows me exactly where he lost it and I rescue it.

He has turned out to be a good traveler. We stop several times on the drive between houses to let him stretch and use the litter box. When we tell him it's time to go, he gets back in his box on his own. He rides quietly.

I did want to share with you the magical capabilities of the fleece baskets from Siamese Cat Rescue. When it is turned over, it becomes a perfect hiding place from shop vacs, delivery men and other unexpected noises. We even picked up the couch where he was hiding under his basket and moved it without disturbing Greebo. When we first get to the house, it has been cold from the heat being set so low. The overturned fleece basket becomes a warm nest for sleeping until the house warms up. Without carpeting and furniture, Greebo has turned the entire house into a ping pong chasing arena. Unfortunately, he prefers to play after we have gone to bed so we listen to him slam into trash bags, boxes and various other obstacles in his game.

Last weekend, Stan had the pleasure of having Greebo remind him to get up at 5 am with kitten kisses and purring. When that did not work, Greebo began licking his ticklish feet, then nibbling on his feet when Stan pulled a sheet over them, and Greebo then pounced when the feet moved. Welcome to my early mornings. He could not believe how persistent the happy little bugger was.

The carpet is coming next Friday and the furniture will becoming the next day. The shore house should be back together by the end of Memorial Day weekend.

On the behavior end, Greebo does not like to be picked up and held. He will come up on our laps when it is his idea. Most likely, that is because he was not socialized enough when he was little. He sleeps on my bed at night. Last weekend, he slept with Stan on the couch when my cot was not big enough for the two of us. That's why he tried to get Stan up last weekend.

He has bonded with me but he likes Stan. Greebo is friendly and loving to everyone he meets. He was welcoming when neighbors stopped in. He hasn't really interacted with people beyond Stan and I plus the vet so I was glad to see him greet them and then sit quietly on the arm of the couch to follow the conversation.

He is eating well. Half a can of kitten food 8 am and 5 pm with the self feeder providing him a 1/4 cup of food at 5 am and 8 pm. He nibbles at that throughout the day. Because he can eat dry food whenever he wants, he does not gobble the canned food when I give it to him. He eats some and then comes back later to finish it. This means I am giving him the recommended amount of food but he has control of eating when he is hungry.

Greebo will gently bite if he is pet when he does not want to be pet. I will continue to work gently with him. As he grows in confidence, he is doing this less and less.

His litter box habits are very good. His boxes are in my office and do I have noticed that he tends to talk softly to himself while doing his business. Very odd.

I was worried about some wheezing he was doing. I thought he was having it only after running up and down the steps. Then he had one while he was sleeping. I think it may be allergies. The windows were open. I have had the windows closed and we have not had any issues. I will continue to monitor this and check it with our vet.

l will also post this on the website for Siri to see.

Pam & Greebo

Greebo is a foul-tempered one-eyed grey tomcat whose owner, Nanny Ogg, insists against all the evidence that he is a sweet, harmless kitten. In the course of the books, he has killed two vampires, eating at least one of them in the novel Witches Abroad:

"The bat squirmed under his claw. It seemed to Greebo's small cat brain that it was trying to change its shape, and he wasn't having any of that from a mouse with wings on."
