Notes from Home
Otis is doing wonderfully. He was friendly and affectionate from day 1, and he could not be more loving. He sleeps with us every night, and spends most of his day by my side. He's quiet (except that he purrs almost nonstop!), friendly, and is just a loving companion. I couldn't be happier with how he's fitting in and he's already brought a great deal of joy to my life.

Nicole

9/15 Update: Otis continues to do very well. He survived spending a few days with my boyfriends mother when we had to go out of town - I'm pretty sure I was more upset than he was! When he came home he sniffed around a bit but otherwise settled right back into his usual routine of cuddling with his humans as much as humanly possible.

Behaviorally, he's got a couple of interesting quirks. He licks things, particularly textured things: blankets, the vent on the wall (I stop him when I catch him!) and above all, our arms. My boyfriend in particular; it's like he's grooming him. It's pretty cute.

He barely talks at all (unless he's in his cat carrier, which he does not like), chases various toys and chews on my fingers when he's playful, and is just overall a perfect cat. I love him beyond measure.

1/31/11 Update: Otis is the best possible cat for our family. He has bonded extremely closely with me and follows me around the apartment when he's awake. When he's asleep, it's almost always within arms reach of me. He's also quite fond of my boyfriend - he crawls under the blanket to sleep between Ian's legs and tickle him with his whiskers.

He's very playful and makes us laugh with his ferocity - it's pretty funny to see an 8 pound ball of fur attacking his own tail.

I've included a new photo. I couldn't be happier with him and the adoption. Thanks for bringing Otis into our lives.

6/9/11 Update - I think Otis finally, completely, believes this is his home, and we are his people. He's become a little more independent, taking naps away from me (the horror!) and spending more time by himself in the apartment, even when I'm home. That makes me a little sad - what do you mean my cat doesn't want to spend every instant by my side? - but mostly very happy. It's good to see him becoming more self-assured.

He's also a little more talkative. He's by no means a prototypical Siamese in that regard, since we can go days without hearing a peep out of him (except the purr, of course - he purrs every day). But lately he's been more comfortable with expressing his displeasure. It's funny to see him sitting on the bed, crying at me because I have the audacity to take a bath. And a few weeks ago, Ian and I went out for the evening, and when we came home, boy did we get in trouble! I actually think something must have scared him (we left the screened window open so he could sniff out it) - he sometimes "yells" at us when we go out at night, but he was obviously distressed and agitated this night, requiring affection for a good hour before he calmed down. I suspected that he would spend that night plastered against my side in bed, and much of the next day on or near me, and I was right. But then he was back to his usual self.

His new game is "under the sheets", and I laugh every time to see this relatively small cat try to get all scary and vicious while fighting with the sheets. You've got to be quick, though - sometimes those flailing claws hurt!

Words can't express how much I adore this cat, and how happy I am to have made him a part of our family.

8/10 - I can't believe it's been a year since we brought Otis home. Sometimes it feels like we just got him, and other times I can barely remember a time when he wasn't around.

He went to his yearly vet visit yesterday. I didn't think it would be any big deal - his first visit was uneventful, so other than the trip in the kitty carrier and car (which he hates), I assumed it would be smooth sailing.

Oh, how foolish of me.

He got scared at one point in the exam and it went all down hill from there. Because the vet wasn't done with the examination yet, he didn't get a chance to calm down, and became progressively more agitated. Then he needed shots. Long story short, all three of us (myself, the vet, and the vet tech) ended up with scratches as he fought desperate to get away from these strange people who were trying to hold him still for unknown purposes. He even growled, which I've never heard him do! He got the important shot (rabies), but the vet called it quits after that, and I had to wash the off the blood from two deep scratches on my hand. For an 8 lb. ball of fur, he's feisty! He essentially beat three fully grown adults and forced our submission to his will, which was "leave me alone!".

As a postscript - he was quiet all the way home (but panting and breathing hard) and a little stand-offish when we first got home, but within a half an hour he was on the couch by my side, take a bath like nothing had ever happened. He got tuna for dinner, and woke me up at 6 am by licking my face, just like he always does. I'm glad he's so quick to forgive! :D

Anyway, we absolutely love our boy, and I'm pretty sure he's fond of us, too.

7/4/13 - We're coming up on three years for Mr. Otis, who remains the lord of the manner. He's a playful, deeply affectionate cat. He's got some quirks that drive us a little nuts sometimes (we can't figure out why he cries at the ceiling, for example), but for the most part we think he's just absolutely perfect.

We're looking at getting him a companion, since I'll hopefully be going back to work full time soon, and he's just such a sociable cat I don't think he'd like to be alone in the apartment for that much of the time.

DIEGO
There are just no words for a guy as nice, as loving, as friendly, as chatty, as wonderful, as Siamese as this guy is. Isn't too happy to share his people with other cats, though.

You just have to watch the video to believe.
5/19/12- We went on a little outing today to Petsmart. I went along to help Meowmy tell folks about Siamese Cat Rescue. It was great fun cause everyone made a big fuss over me. I like wearing my walking jacket and going for walks, so meowmy said I can take it with me to my forever home, in case you want to take me visiting.

Notes from Home
Diego a.k.a. DeNoso, is doing very well so far. He is eating, using his box, sleeping and bonding with the whole human family! We still have him in the master bedroom and he is showing signs of curiosity outside the room from time to time. We go on a mini-vacation this week-end and have plans to start the integration process upon our return. He also will see our vet on the 21st for a good once over!

We went out and got him a small cat tree w/two levels to assist him in getting on our bed and to give him a little fun. We also got a couple more toys, dry food, and treats. All of which he loves. His first choice if we are not in the room is his bed though. Won't touch the one the rescue sent, but the one he is used to he loves. Good call Jeanne! It seems that when we brought his things in on Friday, he became all excited and attacked the tree and has been using it as well. He like to walk up to the carpet part and attack!! He thinks he is really something and of course we go along with it! He really does not do much with his lack of nails and couple of teeth! lol.

He purrs up a storm especially when either of the boys walk into the room. I walk in and get a warm greeting, yes, but they get a super greeting! They love that of course. He is gentle and loves to snuggle with them and Zachary my 11 year old says he has him "trained" to go onto his lap when he calls him and pats his lap. It is true Diego does exactly that when Zachary asks! He is getting a lot of love and seems to be really getting comfortable with us. He sleeps with me (against me at all times) during the night. He will wake us up with that loud, crazy sounding meow if he is hungry...hasn't happened since I wised up and got the dry to help tie him over. The first time we heard it I thought something awful had happened! In his eyes it did, we did not feed him by 5:30am! Yikes!!!

I will keep you posted as things develop. I am sure the next month will keep us on our toes and we start the process of everyone getting to know one another...dogs and cat!

Thank you all again. We feel very lucky to have found such a great 'kitten'.
07/03/2013-Diego is doing absolutely wonderful. His health is very good and he is current on all his vetting. He loves the dogs and has bonded very much with the younger of the two. They often lay in the sun and cuddle. He is also a delight with the kids, and if I ever own another cat, it will be an older cat for sure! The only surprises we have had with his personality is how great it really is. He is by far the best kitty for an active family regardless of his age. He gets in the mix and does not want to be left out.

He is getting ready for a big adventure. We are moving to Chesapeake, VA in two weeks. We cannot go house to house as we hoped, so the Robinson crew will all be in at a Residence Inn for a week then the new house. They will not know what hit them! I have no worries that he will do fine as long as we are all together and that is the plan. No member left behind! We'll make sure the four legged members feel secure. Our email should not change.

Thank you for everything. I will try to send photos via email. The Robinsons

OLIVE
Hi, I'm Mira (pronounced Meera).

I am one lucky lady. My elderly owner could not care for me any more, so her daughter brought her to the shelter. And standing right there was a Siamese Rescue volunteer. How lucky can you get!

I'm a dark beauty with gorgeous blue eyes. I'm super friendly, too. I will give you all the love you want (and kisses, too.).

Foster mom has to work on better pictures. I keep getting too close when she tries to take my picture.

Please give me a forever home.

MARBLES
Hi, My name is Marbles and no I am not a feline male model but foster mom says I could be. So far I told foster mom I DON'T like those other cats... I have not met any doggies yet so don't know that yet... People... I love them. Men, yep I especially like those but the ladies are okay too!

I am relaxing and decided food and cuddles are a very good thing again... so ask about me. It's only been a few days so I have lots of things to reveal to foster mom.

Due to a heart defect Maximus (Marbles) passed away on 6.18.13. If love could have saved Maximus he would have been alive forever. He was our little prince (he was all boy with his big puppy paws and all) too young to be crowned king just yet however he was awaiting his coronation.

This is one of those cats you just can't help but love ! If you're looking for a super affectionate companion, this gal is it. She headbutts, she purrs, she rubs, she rolls over for belly rubs ! Having nails trimmed didn't faze her, having a bath didn't faze her....

Notes from Home
Sugarpie has really settled into the routine around here now. She's completely comfortable with the entire house and goes where ever she pleases and gets on anything she pleases. She's fond of throwing grapes around after pulling them from the bowl. She has many spots around the house where she'll sleep during the day. You never know where you might find her. That tells me she is quite content with this home. She get along well with the others which I'm not surprised by since she came from a 13 cat household. She has her kookie time in the morning that is allotted to all Siamese. It looks like cat Nascar around here sometimes! She's very attached to my 19 year old daughter but she's getting ready to go away to York College in a couple weeks so Sugar will have to do with me for a while.
That's about it for now. I'll update again in the near future.
6/27/13
I found it very difficult to make this note so it's the reason for my putting off.
I had Sugar put to sleep on 11/29/12 after an acute mega-colon episode. After a Sunday evening trip to the emergency vet, she stayed over night and was given enimas. Monday I took her to my vet and began giving her lactalose. By Wednesday still no defication, took her back to my vet where she was thru Friday. They were unable to get her to move her bowels after many enimas. As I did not think I could afford for them to operate I was forced to put her to sleep. The most difficult choice imaginable. I have certainly not gotten over it to this day. I loved her dearly and miss her just as much.

Well after a week of hiding under the cagebank I decided enough was enough; I came out and started singing my favorite song:

Woman I ain't foolin'
I'm gonna say it yeah
Go back to schoolin'
A-way down inside
Woman you need love
I'm gonna give ya my love
I'm gonna give ya my love, ohhhhh

Wanna whole lotta love
Wanna whole lotta love
I wanna whole lotta love
I wanna whole lotta love

So how about it? I'm ready, are you?

Notes from Home
May 11, 2013:
Dear Diary,
It's been 6 days since I've been in this strange new place. At first, I was very intimidated by the whole experience; leaving my human family in North Carolina, being crated off to someplace called a 'Rescue Center', staying there just long enough to begin feeling adventuresome again, only to be crated off to some foriegn land called Pennsylvania. Immediately I was put in this nice little cave, with my belongings, and I was allowed to hide for a while. Then this human, called Kitty, strange name for a human, any way, Kitty comes to visit me often, and talks very soothingly, and give me lots of pets and hugs. She even does the slow blink! She can really make me purr! I love to rub all over her! Once in a while, the other human, Pete, comes in, and he pets me and talks to me too. He's been visiting more frequently now that I'm not hiding so much any more.

At first, the door to my room was always closed. But now there is a gate there that I can see to the other side of the house. I've been hearing these strange noises coming from the other side of the house. I don't know what it is, but it sure catches my attention. One day I'm going to have to explore that side of the house, but not yet. I'm still getting the lay of the land. But, I know, there's something else out there!

From the beginning, I knew something was different about this place. I could sense it, I could smell it, I could even feel it. I knew from the start, I was not the only animal in this house. WOW! Can you imagine my surprise when I woke up yesterday morning with a 75# male dog looking me in the eye? I could see right away, this one, Rags, wasn't a threat. He was all white in the face, and just stood there looking at me. I even surprised myself. I walked right up to him and we touched noses! He seems like a nice old guy. But wait, that's not the end of it. Another dog came in my room. This was the female, Patches. She seems alright, but I think she wants to eat my food!

Last night, Kitty wasn't feeling well, something is wrong with her tummy, anyway, she came down late at night, and layed down on the floor with me for most of the night. I stayed with her until she went to sleep. With her sleeping near me, I felt confident, so I walked right over to that gate, and kept watch on the other side, until Kitty got up and went back to bed. I went to bed after that, and got a good nights sleep. I'm finally getting my appetite back. Did I tell you, the water here is very good! I don't think I ever drank well water before, did I? It tastes different, so.. uh, fresh, yeah, it's fresh, refreshing, I like it!

We'll see if I can't act real cute to see if I can't get those silly humans to take some pictures for posting... Later...

May 14, 2013
I'm still getting used to my new home. Not really much news to report. I think I like it here! I'm a little skittish when I go in the other rooms. But I like my room! I have my own cat cave.

We had visitors from Texas and Minnesota this week. I even let some of them pet me. I was sooo cute! They wanted to take me home with them. But, Kitty wouldn't let them. I think she likes me! A lot! I'm pretty happy here!

My gosh! You know what I just saw? I told you there was something out there! It's huge! It talks! It's a, a what? Oh, right, it's an African Gray parrot! She whistled at me! But, I have to admit, she got my attention right away. I'm not sure what to think about this. It's too big to catch. Glad they have it in it's cage! Whew! Did you see my picture? Awkward! Later!

June 26, 2013:
Well, I've been having so much fun in my new home, I forgot to write! I love it here! I love my new owner. She makes time for me every morning and evening. I don't really know what to think of that darned noisy parrot, but I like the dogs. They seem to like me too! That guy that lives here got hurt recently. He broke some ribs, so he stays around a lot lately. He really likes me, too!

The other day I found some of my old toys. They must have been misplaced when I moved in here. Gosh was I ever happy to find them. I have a lot of toys to play with, but I do like my old toys! I play with them like I was a kitten.

Well, I'm going to go take my nap now. I've been playing so hard, it made me sleepy... Good night!

ANDREW
My teeth have all been taken care of now....and I "donated" 8 of them!!! My mouth is a tad bit sore but it's not keeping me from breakfast or dinner!!!!
I'm really good with my diet too. Foster Mary was told my former owner (whom I have missed dearly) tended to treat me like a child and kinda overfed me. When she went to Rainbow Bridge my new person made sure I had a balanced diet and I did lose 5 pounds (see it can be done). Foster Mary is making sure I continue this downward spiral as the vet said I have about 4 more to go. See all the hard work has already been done!!!!
I love being brushed. Gotta have a daily brushing session. And yes I also talk - well complain actually but hey it's talking!!!!
Now that my mouth is feeling better I am feeling braver and starting to work up the nerve to venture out of my room. It's still kinda scary though. There is another boy kitty here and I'm not too sure about him. The girl kitties are fine - and this morning I almost headbutted the dog!!
So systems are all on go and I'm ready!!! I am a bit shy so would prefer a quieter lifestyle. Household chaos and busy little kids scare me. And yes I will be ghost kitty when you have company. I lived alone with my original person for a long time and change is just plain old scary. But once you brush me - I start purring and showing belly and I'm yours!!!!
But I can't be yours until you inquire about me.

Notes from Home
As you can see from the new pictures that I have added, Andrew is settled and very happy in his new home. We are very much bonded, and when I'm home, we do everything together. If he sees me walking towards 'his chair', he races ahead of me to meet me there. That's where he gets brushed-his favorite thing to do. When we get up in the morning, we like to watch a few animal videos together. He gets right up to the screen, gently poking it. Then he gets energized, and tears around the house-for such a big boy, he can move!
He is so gentle and affectionate, if he wants my attention, he usually just walks up to me and gently taps me with his paw. He had me at 'Meow', but I love him more each day.

TRUFFLE
Well, hi there. My name is Truffles, and I am so confused rigth now. One minute I was in my home of 9 years and the next thing I knew I was in a cage at the vet's office all alone. Thank goodness the rescue angels came when the vet called and told them about me.
I have lived with another cat at one time, and also a dog. I don't know if I'll like any other cats right now, but I'll let meowmy know more as I get used to this new place.
Why not ask about me if you want a really pretty middle aged girl who loves to be held. Meowmy said she should know more in a day or two.

Notes from Home
Dear Siamese Rescue, It is hard to imagine that a whole month has gone by since Yo Yo joined our family. He is such a wonderful addition - so affectionate, beautiful and well behaved ! It seems as if he has been here much longer and I feel that he is very much like my other two Siamese who I loved so much. He looks so much like Sushi, and sits on my lap a great deal of the time, as she used to do. It is almost like having her back again, and that makes me very happy indeed. I might add also that Yo Yo and my little dog Sweet Pea are very good friends - they sit on my sofa together, and lie on my bed together very happily. Yo Yo has also gotten much quieter - when he first came he ran around a lot and cried quite a bit, perhaps calling for his two friends from his previous household. Now he is far more relaxed and eats well. I think that he might have gained a little weight, which suits him well. I am so delighted with Yo Yo - he has become a dear companion and friend. Thank you so much for getting us together !!! Best wishes, Diana Clagett.
