Notes from Home
McMurphy is a total love machine! He's learned to play fetch, trotting over with his favorite crinkle ball in his mouth and dropping it on our laps to throw again. He also LOVES his snake wand, playing with it so much that it's already had to go in for emergency surgery. He wants to be near us whenever he can. He's up to 4.3lb as of 8/24/15. We're still trying to teach him that counters and kitchen tables are not for kitties, but overall, he's a complete joy. Fingers crossed, we have only seen him scratch on appropriate pads and posts. All he needs now is to be able to play with his sister, Bandit [originally Cymba].
9/22/15: McMurphy and The Pink-Nosed Bandit have been running around and playing together - and loving it! McMurphy is over 5 pounds now and still a great cat. He seems to be off of the kitchen counters and table most of the time (unless food - especially HIS food is out, anyway!), which is nice. His markings are breathtaking and he's such a sweet cat. He burrows under the covers at night to curl up with me, though during the day he'd much rather be perched in the windowsill watching the birds and people go by. He's definitely the more mischievous of the two, but we love him for it. We couldn't be happier!
---------------
4/30/16: McMurphy is a bundle of energy! He's equal parts affectionate and troublesome. He likes getting into and onto EVERYTHING, which we continue to try to break him of but I think he just has adventure in his soul. He likes being HIGH up on top of things and squeezing into spaces you think he must surely be too big for. He's getting pretty close to 10 pounds (if he isn't already!) but, despite his curious nature, he's also an absolute sweetheart. He curls up with us whenever we're home and loves to play. He also loves snuggling and playing with his sister, Bandit; and he LOVES visiting "Grandmom" and "Pop Pop" (my parents) because that means he gets to see his best buddy, their 3 year old Siamese male, Ranger. We were nervous about two male cats spending longer periods of time together, but they have a blast with each other! McMurphy is also much louder than his more demure sister, which I love. They're such a balanced pair of cats, and both so lovable.
-------------------------------------------------------------
9/01/18:
McMurphy and Bandit are all grown up! McMurphy is the sweetest cat imaginable. He's so lovable, so loving, and so patient -- even with my 3 year old niece. He's a little shy at first, doesn't like big crowds or loud noises, but when he warms up to you he's nothing but love. He'll run ahead of you, flop down on the floor, roll over and look at you with his big, blue cross-eyes to say, "please, pet me!" So adorable. He loves to snuggle, especially at night while watching t.v. He's a big cat these days -- my mom calls him the "squishy" cat because he's just this fluffball of soft fur...he's like a living, breathing stuffed animal. He's also a hunter, keeping his home mouse-free, and is absolutely best friends with his uncle Ranger, my parents' cat. I still can't believe how well they get along. He also likes to play with my parents' dog every now and then. Oh and he loves boxes. If there's a box, a hamper, a bag...you can find McMurphy inside. He's the absolute love of my life (ok, well, one of two loves of my life -- I could never choose a favorite between him and Bandit!!)

Notes from Home
-----------------------------------------------------
Bandit (fka "Cymba") is an absolute angel! Liam and I can't get enough of her. She's growing steadily, though she's still smaller than her brother, McMurphy. I can't get over how affectionate she is. She curls up with me every night (sometimes on top of my head) and when you hold her she looks up at you with her big, blue eyes...and you melt. She's also (mostly) well-behaved so far, though I did catch her scratching on the sofa for the first time ever just recently (so I redirected her to one of her many scratching posts), and she's only now learning that the dining room table is not for cats. She doesn't seem to respond to the mason jar of coins we use successfully as a deterrent for McMurphy -- she seems to be a typical female in that regard, just looking at you like, "Why are you shaking that at me?" while going about her business. She's not as big of a climber as McMurphy is, though, so she's mostly content to hang out on ground-level or in her cat tree. She still loves the big, white stuffed mouse she came up with :) She's also a great travel cat. She's had a number of car trips recently, and except for the most recent one that interfered with dinner time, she quietly naps in her carrier until we arrive at our destination. She's amazing!
--------------------------------------------------------
4/30/16 Bandit is our little Princess! She's up to almost 8 pounds and just celebrated her first birthday. She's quiet, affectionate, and absolutely adorable. She is extremely well behaved; the only time she starts scratching where she shouldn't is when her nails are ready for a trim. As long as we stay on top of that, she's great! She steals the heart of every single person who meets her. She gets along well with her brother, McMurphy, and even does well when she visits "Grandmom and Pop-Pop," their 3 year old Siamese cat, and 7 year old dog. What an amazing cat!
------------------------------------------------

Bandit and McMurphy have grown up beautifully and are doing very well! It's hard to believe it's been 3 years already. Bandit is very quiet but also very mischievous. She's always the one on the counter tops, the table, getting into things. But then she looks up at you with her still kitten-like face and big blue eyes and you just can't possibly be mad at her. She likes to come to your lap on her own terms, but if you pick her up she's like a rag doll, happy to just chill in your arms for a while as you carry her around. She's also very playful and loves to run into a room you're in at top speed, jump onto the highest piece of furniture nearby, and come screeching to a halt beside you, ready to play. Very silly, very curious, and very, very sweet. We could not be more in love with her!

Notes from Home
Loren was a very active little kitten who we renamed Hershey. He is lovable, very affectionate and gets into everything. He opens cabinet doors in our kitchen and has scaled the pet gates and gotten past them. Both Hershey and Misty were confined to our living room and kitchen area and part of the laundry room where the litter boxes were located. Hershey and Misty have adjusted very well to their new home. Hershey is very outgoing and purrs even in his sleep. He is a great cat and we love him very much. I uploaded some pictures of him and Misty. Hershey is getting bigger. Hershey has a great appetite as well.
It is hard to believe that it has been a year since we had Hershey. He has grown up and is a big boy now. He gets into a little trouble though from time to time but does things that make us all laugh. He thinks he is a dog and chews on our shoes , belts and school bag straps, but is very lovable, friendly and outgoing and keeps us on our toes. He gets along well with Misty. They have been to our vet, Banfield Pet Hospital numerous times and were last seen in 7/16 for some shots. They are both healthy with no medical problems. They are due to be seen again in 10/16 for a full regular checkup. The vet says that both Hershey and Misty look great. Both cats are active and play regularly and they fight occasionally. I am uploading some current pictures of both of them. We are so glad that we adopted them from Siamese rescue and would do it again in a heartbeat. Thanks to our interviewer Alexis for helping us with the adoption and our adoptive pet parent.
We also want to thank all the volunteer drivers and coordinators who helped transport both Hershey (Loren) and Misty to us from Williamsburg, VA.
It is hard to believe that it has been 2 years now since we adopted Hershey. He has grown and is a big boy and is so lovable and affectionate. He does so many funny things that make us laugh. he gets along great with Misty and they both love to hang in the cat tower we got from PetSmart. it is one of their favorite spots to sit and watch birds and squirrels from our bay windows in our living room. Hershey and Misty are both very spoiled and we would not have any other way. They are our fur babies and they have 100+ toys. We are so glad that adopted Hershey and Misty.
Hershey is happy and healthy and still very playful and he loves to be brushed. He is seen regularly at our vet Banfield Pet Hospital every 6 months for a checkup and is current on his shots.
Here is the latest update on Hershey as of 8/18. Hershey is happy and healthy and is a good eater. He is regularly seen at our vet, Banfield Pet Hospital. The vet and staff are wonderful with Hershey when we visit the vet every 6 months. He is a big boy and he does some funny things that make us all laugh. He and Misty play a lot and sleep together on occasion as well. Hershey is such an important member of our family and we are so glad that we adopted him and Misty.

NEMESIS
Very sweet kitty with outgoing personality. A little Siamese voice and talks when she has something to say - like food bowl is getting low :) She is now out of isolation and likes to be petted and interactive with people. She is also fine with other cats and will play after getting to know her new buddies. She likes to play with toys.
That's me, Karly

Notes from Home
Nemesis, once Karly, is proving an enjoyable addition to the household. First, she keeps RG the cat on his feet --and on alert, in case she takes over his last refuge, the three level cat tree in the kitchen.
Second, I've had to carefuly practice secure entry and departure from the house -- for Lil' Sis wants to go out and establish her domain over the yard (which of course is not permitted)
The two of them tangle once in a while each day, but Nemeis holds her own -- and is the first to express displeasure (hiss, snarl) if RG bothers her when she doesn't want to be bothered.
Vet checkout when well, but fecal flottation indicated traces of coccidae -- so the two of them have been on a two week course of Albon sulfa drug. Adminsitering the drug to Nemesis, in her wet food, is no problem, but with RG it is difficult -- he leaves it behind have eaten, and I have to make sure she doesn't clean up after him.
She knows every place in the home, short cut passages, hiding holes, niches in which to rest. She thinks already she is in charge of the place.
Anyway, a good addition to the household, as I said.
===
March 1
Nemesis has fit herself into the household a long while ago. She has established her own bed (but when RG her companion cat takes her bed, she has no hesitation to take the master bedroom bed over as her own). She and RG squabble a bit about how things are to be done, but most of the while they move around the place together, tails held high. She is a very sweet girl, and likes visitors as well as, of course, me. This has been a successful adoption.
9/1/14
Karly/Nemesis is doing well, one year after her adoption. She and my other cat RG roam the house together (and occasional scuffle over differences in opinion about things). She eats well, and is always healthy -- and has grown to love being brushed with our wire slicker brush once a day. She finds hidey-holes everywhere in the house for nice private naps, and carefully protects them from RG if he comes browsing. All in all, the adoption is a great success, and it is a pleasure to have Nemesis in the family.
9/1/15
Nemesis continues to be doing well in this household. She has made herself the queen of all high places to lounge and watch us -- and is an expert at getting into cabinets if the doors are left ajar.
She has not continued to be a door dasher -- she will stay still watching if I go through an open door -- but I consider it prudent to keep an eye on her when going outdoors.
Nemesis and my other cat RG continue to have a mixed relationship. They do lots of things together, such as marching to the kitchen for feeding, or keeping up with my whereabouts in the house. But there is still often a contest between the two of them about choice activities, such as who gets to sit in the window looking out -- and in these cases size matters, the larger cat (RG) gets his way. Doesn't seem to bother Nemesis -- just part of life.
So all in all adoption of Nemesis through SRC has been a success, a pleasure.
9/1/2017 Today is the fourth anniversary when Nemesis joined this household, and it is hard to believe she hasn't been here always.
She is the queen of all high places to be found in the house, and can often be found on any shelf with enough room for a cat.
She gets along well with her companion cat, RG, but doesn't hesitate to make it clear when he is too pushy.
Her one time "door dasher" habit is largely gone -- I speak to her when I'm passing through at outside door and she backs up.
It is always a pleasure to have Nemesis jump up to my lap for a little petting -- before she heads off to explore another place in the house.
All in all, a successful adoption, and Nemesis is a pleasure to have in my home.
9/1/2018
Hard to believe that it is 5 years since Nemesis joined this home. She is a healthy and happy cat, active and alert. I noticed (again) last night that she does not like the sound of barking dogs (which fortunately we seldom hear in this neighborhood) — I figure she must have had a bad encounter with a dog when a stray, years ago, and remembers still. Her specialty in the house is climbing to the highest accessible places — if she were an outside cat she would be climbing trees, I figure. Her relationship with my other cat, RG, remains the same — they hang out together, have to check out any seldom opened place (basement, store room) — and have a little squabble every once in a while when RG, who thinks himself the dominant cat, gets too pushy!

SUKIYAKI
I am making great progress - I am still not the bravest kitten in the world, but no where near as scared as I was. I purr when foster momma holds me, I have discovered toys, and I just love playing with the big cats. I have been spayed and am all ready to go home Have a quieter home that needs a pretty little kitten (we don't have to be perfectly pointed to be pretty, you know)? Then ask about me.

Notes from Home
Her new name is Suki! She's a bundle of energy and happiness, and gets along well with our mastiff! She and our other cat, Pickles, romp all over the house together wrestling, and chasing, and fliing toys in the air. They've bonded beautifully. We lover her!!
Suki is almost 4 now, and has bonded well with us. She loves to play, and trots around the house like a horse - most cats are quiet, but you can hear her stomping down the stairs with such enthusiasm - she’s truly a precocious little girl!
We have a question! Every time we open a can of wet food, which we give our kitties as a treat once in a while, Suki comes RUNNING from anywhere in the house... but she only sniffs the food and then leaves! Could you tell us what food you had fed her as a kitten? It seems as though she’s always searching for a specific food, and I’ve tried 2 dozen brands and flavors, but never managed to find the one she comes running for!

BELLA
Oh la la. Look at me.
I am a beautiful young lady with a truly fabulous plume of a tail that would be the talk of any Paris runway.
Not only that, but I'm very affectionate, talkative and friendly.
I'm a sensitive girl by nature so need a home either on my own, or with a young gentleman sibling who treats me like the princess I am. I'm just far too delicate a fashionista to be bullied.
With a wonderfully soft and silky gray coat, why would you even think of cuddling up with anyone else this fall.

Notes from Home
Bella continues to do well. We changed litter on her and although I did it gradually, it wasn't gradual enough or she just doesn't like it. She urinated out of the box several times - always on a soft towel. I switched her to the "Cat Attract" litter and her problems went away overnight.
She still does not like men she doesn't know. She will hide under the couch to watch them and decide if she can come out to meet them on her terms. We don't force her to come out and meet anyone.
Bella has met 4 different dogs of friends. One stood at the a glass door and barked at her. She just sat and stared at him. No running away or hissing. The other three were older and very calm, so they were allowed to approach her. She touched noses with them, then walked away with complete non-interest.
Not a cuddler at all, she sits in laps on her terms, but she does enjoy what we call "sweet lovings" where she gets some firm scratches on her chin and ears and mouth.
She also gets her teeth brushed daily and tolerates this very well. No fighting the brush at all.
Overall, she is a delight and a love.

Needing a quieter home with someone who will let me enjoy you at my pace, I'm friendly but don't like to be forced into submission, if you know what I mean. Soft voices and gentle hands and I'll be just fine! I am a little fur challenged so you should love to brush me too.

Notes from Home
8/30/2018 - Tiko is doing EXCELLENT! He is the biggest love bug. He was definitely scared and timid for the first few weeks, and understandably. We properly integrated him with Yoda and they get along very well. No fighting, no hissing, they are good mates now! We still feel like we are learning more about each other every day. Just recently, he started to sleep for a few hours with us in bed at night- this is a HUGE step for him. He has favorite toys, he drools when he's hungry, and he absolutely LOVES belly rubs and head scratches. He cannot resist. We feel so lucky to have gotten such a sweet cat and we can tell he loves us (he loves Lynn more than Matt :), he loves routine and consistency which we have, and he is settling in very well. To compare where we were from week one to know, there have been HUGE strides. We love him so much (he loves hugs too :) We are a happy household :)
