Notes from Home
13 July 2011:
Overall, things continue to go very well. We have successfully retrained Nena not to have her face in the middle of our dinner plates. She quickly learned that she will be rewarded, with appropriate treats and love, if she sits quietly and lets us eat. Yeah!!!!

Nena seems to be quite "at home" with us here. She is very social, eats well, has excellent litter box habits, and loves to play. We have recently discovered that she can no longer tolerate the Royal Canin wet food; if she eats it, she will throw up within an hour and then feel pretty lousy for a while.

We have also discovered that Nena LOVES to eat plastic shopping bags. It's madness! We cannot even bring in groceries and sit them on the counter for more than a minute without her chewing through the bag and eating a chunk of it. It scared us to death the first time we caught her eating the bag. Fortunately, she threw it all up within about thirty minutes. A little research on this, and we discovered that they use some type of gelatin in the manufacturing process - she must also like Jell-O, but we are not about to go there!

Skyy and Nena are regular play dates now. They chase each other about, toss toys at each other and also call out to each other in their special Siamese way every night. It is very cute to watch them. They still jockey for the alpha position - - Skyy challenges Nena, Nena backs down. Nena challenges Skyy, Skyy backs down. There have not been any major skirmishes, however. Nena is quite the Warrior Princess.

Similarly, Nena challenges Lili for position, winning every time. This has been challenging, as Lili does not fight back. Lili hisses and growls and then retreats, which seems to make Nena more aggressive with her. Since our last update, the conflicts between Nena and Lili have become fewer and less intense. We have had weeks where there is no conflict. :-) The times when there is conflict, it is usually because only one of us (not both of us) is at home for a few days. This creates tension as Nena feels territorial for more attention.

Additionally, Lili has been hanging out with the other two in the sunroom nearly every day for the last month or so. It is SO nice to have all three of them in the same room, peacefully. Lili is becoming more of herself, demanding attention and being more present with us. We continue to get to know Nena, and she is such a sweet and playful girl. Can't imagine not having here with the rest of the pride.

15 January 2012: Nena's annual visit to the vet went smashingly well. The poor doctor had to pick up Nena and run some water in order to get her to stop purring during the exam so that she could hear her heart and lungs. Nena is such a sweet girl! Her check up was great, and she seems to thus far have avoided the Siamese "bad teeth" gene. Her teeth are gorgeous! She continues to bond with the other two cats, and there hasn't been any hissing or spitting in months (between Nena and Lili). All three of them routinely curly up on the bed together.

Nena likes her tuna in the morning, followed by a little hard boiled egg yolk. We have discovered that wet food makes her throw up within about a half an hour of eating it, so no more for her. She is on an all natural diet (Orajen) and she is doing really well.

She prefers her hairball treats to Laxatone, and she loves, loves, loves the little fleece mice that were made by her foster Meowm. She carries one of them around in her mouth nearly all of the time - a gal needs to be ready to play at a moment's notice. ;-)

26 January 2014: What can we say about Nena? She is a doll. She follows us around the house like a purring shadow, and she loves to watch the birds out the windows. Every evening, she lays on our laps while we read or watch television. Sometimes, she even lets us know how impatient she is getting for us to sit down by standing next to us and "yelling" until we either pick her up or walk toward a couch or chair. She is an absolute trip!

She and Skyy are definitely the two love bugs in the house. Both of them want to be hugged and petted and play. Lili has her moments of being petted and playing, but she is definitely not one to want to be picked up or held. Although we do pick her up and hold her for a minute or two, just so she knows it is safe and nothing bad will happen to her.

All in all, Nena is delightful - and we love our brood. :-)

LILI
I'm a little bit shy, but I warm up quickly;
I really want to be your friend, but Im a little bit scared.
I like to have a safe place to retreat to when I'm unsure.
I'm learning to play, I like catnip and the laser wand.
I love to have my head and neck scratched, I'll head butt you in return.
I like other cats, but they have to be quiet and gentle and not chase me around.
I'm going to need a quiet home with someone who is patient and will let me come around in my own time and on my own terms.
If I sound like the kitty for you, please click on my "Ask about me" button and foster mom will get right back to you.

Notes from Home
A big "HELLO" out there to the Siamese Rescue Center; Lili here. I am so happy that my meow foster Mom gave me to Jodi and Eileen. They have a very cozy home with another furry fine fellow named Skyy; he has showed me the ropes and he loves to play with me and snuggle with me on the bed. I especially love to taunt him when we both watch the birds on the cat tree in the sun room. The silly boy falls asleep and I pop him in the head, and he doesn't know what hit him for a minute or two. I'm sneaky that way! ;-)

It has taken me a while to figure out that this is my home, and I am now feeling comfortable in my forever home. My care givers let me have personal space, and that has helped me feel comfortable... so comfortable that I am now demanding attention. In the mornings, for instance, I routinely stand on them in bed, and tell them in my own special way that I need some pets and love. Only a couple of months ago, I started to "talk" to them, and they got so excited to hear me that now I know exactly how to get their attention quickly. Skyy is not always so pleased that I can get attention as easily as he does! But, I am the Queen of the house.

My two meow-moms have been able to brush me and clip my nails on a regular basis, and I love licking the Laxatone off of their fingers in the morning. Sometimes I have to wait for them to catch up to my schedule for the Laxatone, so I sit patiently on the kitchen rug and wait for them.

I LOVE to look out the windows and watch the birds, squirrels and chipmunks - I get so excited that I often chirp and meow while I am watching them. I have a healthy appetite, but I am not a piggy like my brother, Skyy. It's important to maintain my girlish figure, and the vet says that I am in excellent health, even though I have wobbly knees, whatever that means. It didn't stop me from catching that pesky mouse that got into the house this past fall. My meow-Moms were so excited that I caught it - no big deal. It was fun.

At first, Skyy used to chase me around the house at night, trying to get me to play with him, and now, I often initiate the chase and he has to work to keep up with me. (I think this is a good thing, cause he's on a diet.) :-)

Guess that's all for now, 'cause it's a beautiful day and the birds are at the feeder. My meow-moms have uploaded some photos so you can see that I'm ready for my close-ups.

15 January 2012: Ms. Lili seems to have inherited the Siamese "bad teeth" gene, so she will likely need to have more oral surgery here in the next 2-3 months. About a year ago, we had her teeth cleaned, and in the process, we were notified that 5 of her teeth needed to come out. She felt much better afterward, but we hope she doesn't freak out when she doesn't have any of her canine incisors.

Lili will always be a very skittish girl, but she is so sweet. She loves to play, usually at night, and she has the softest meow and purr. We absolutely adore her.

January 26, 2014: My, my how time flies! Last year, Lili's "Siamese" teeth brought her new challenges. We had to remove all but one of her front canines as they were developing abscesses and were causing her not to eat. Since the surgery, Lili has been more present and playful with us.

Lili continues to be such a sweet girl, and she is more demanding of our attention (which is a welcomed change!). Over the last year, she has become more confident, and each night, she comes to see us in the living room. She jumps right up and lays down next to us, purring like a freight train. She LOVES to be scratched and petted, and she feels comfortable enough to stretch out and let us rub her belly (but only for a minute or two). She snuggles up next to Skyy, and occasionally Nena too.

We have discovered that she really likes the little miniature tennis balls. She bats them around the house, romping here and there, for 30-40 minutes at a time (usually at night). It makes us smile that she is finally coming into her own. It's hard to believe it has taken this long, but we absolutely adore her.

LIBERTY
Look at this face. No, really, look at my face and tell me I'm not the most adorable little tortie snowshoe kitten you have EVER SEEN?

That's what I thought.

My foster Momma named me Razzle Dazzle for the amazingly sparkly, super outgoing, lots of purring, lots of playing, very vocal personality I have. I've told her that it's a very long name, so we've come to a compromise. I whole-heartedly agree...call me Razzie for short!

I purr, make biscuits, and elevator butts...dang, I'm a fast learner! I could very easily be paired with the handsome Firecracker-- you might say we're a smart match. Wouldn't you agree?

Notes from Home
Liberty is doing very well aside from a GI issue that we are dealing with. We took in a stool sample over the weekend and it came back negative for coccidian. I will be taking her to the vet with another sample today. She will also be getting her rabies vaccination and we will be establishing care with the vet today.
She is a beautiful little girl. She is warming up to us and will now come to us and jumps up in our laps to be held. She's still very small, but has a huge appetite and loves to play. She and Firecracker get along extremely well.
We have been letting them out of their confined room to begin getting used to the rest of the house. They are doing much better with this. The first day they would run and hide and had to be lured back with food, but now they run off to explore and then seek us out.
She has this odd little meow that cracks us up. She appears to be fragile, but in many ways she's braver than Firecracker. She's doing great.

8.19.13 - Unfortunately, we are still dealing with GI issues. It appears that Liberty is doing a little bit better, but now Firecracker has full blown diarrhea. It's been a bit stressful and we're disappointed that we haven't been able to have them outside of their confined room, so they are still not totally acclimated to our home. Aside from the medical issues, both kittens are doing very well. Liberty is starting to fill out and she's turning into a beauty while Firecracker is still his adorable self. They get along great together and we really can't wait until the GI issues are over and we can have them with us throughout the day.

1.23.14 - Libby is doing very well and has grown into a beautiful cat. We are estimating that she's around 8 months old now. There are times when I wonder if she thinks she's a younger sister to Celeste rather than a cat! She's a perfect companion for Celeste and for our family. I can't imagine life without her. I've attached two photos of Liberty. In the one you'll see just how comfortable she is with us as she's lying on her back, partly covered with a blanket, snoozing while we're watching a movie. Thanks again to all for your support and assistance!

LEO
Oh tooo yummy. High energy, high activity, high loving, high vocalizations - I'm one fantastic kitten!

No new pictures yet
Notes from Home
Leo continues to captivate us all. He & Duchess chase & play all over the house. I've uploaded a photo of them wrestling in the living room. The other photo is of him playing in his tunnel. Leo is into everything. I can't open a bag, cabinet, or anything else without him coming to "help" or investigate. Right now he's sleeping in the cat tree in my room.

I've had Leo a month now & he's grown quite a bit but is still slim even tho he's been eating a LOT of canned food recently. He's still very much a busybody & he & Duchess have taken to having wrestling matches in my closet. Late at night when I'm in bed I often hear GALLOPING,thumps, & the sounds of paper bags being attacked.

It's October now & Leo's has established himself in the family. He sleeps with me, my nephew, or my brother or anwhere he pleases & chases Duchess relentlessly. He's hard on breakaway collars ! I've had to replace one for being ruined so it wouldn't fasten right anymore, and he's lost his new one twice. It's somewhere in the house & will probable turn up any day now. He likes to watch big cats on TV so I've included recent photos of him watching a cheetah on one of the many nature shows on Animal Planet or Nat Geo.
DECEMBER 4TH Leo is now a little bigger than Duchess & is solid & muscular. His coat is very soft & full. He continues to have a big appetite & will eat Duchess' leftovers or even eat her food before she's done so I have to make sure he gets a good dishfull. He eats whatever canned food I give him
( Fancy feast, 9 Lives & Friskies) & isn't finicky at all. Duchess, a former abandoned stray, whom I adopted in February, used to be like that but has become a little finicky lately. I guess she figures that now that she knows she's got a good home & is adored & loved it's time to lay down her paw & start making demands!

Sept 8,2012 leo has been with us for a whole year as of Sept 4th. He's grown into 10.5 lbs of healthy beautiful seal point tomcat. He passed his August vet check with flying colors. He continues to be,in Siri's words "..... a rough and tumble one, a super manly one, a busy active athletic pounce and chase one." Duchess can handle him when he gets too rough. She'll run or smack him upside the head. She's a high energy kitty, too, & I still hear them running & chasing at night. A few weeks ago there was a loud crash in the wee hours. They had knocked over my tall Vornado fan that blows air up the stairwell. Once Leo knocked over the floor to ceiling cat tree. I still have to use covered litterboxes because they both dig "China holes" & throw litter everywhere when they go but their litterbox habits are excellent with no accidents. Leo likes to cuddle & have his tummy rubbed & will hang out with whoever's home & sleep wherever & with whomever he wants to. Same with Duchess. Sometimes they just want to be petted & loved on. Leo's not a very vocal Siamese, has a soft voice & only meows when necessary, like when he sneaked into a closet & was shut in for awhile. He's a lot of fun & a joy to have around

Leo is now 2 years old . Again he passed his vet check with flying colors but this time his behavior was horrible. He carried on like a wounded tiger & the vet had to put a towel & a net over him to give him his shots! The vet said it's probably because he's grown now & not a kitten. He still loves to play. He & Duchess stilll make THUNDERPAWS in the wee night hours. Leo has become very fond of my nephew because he's at home when I'm at work & will sit outside his bedroom door & yell to make him get up. I retired from teaching in June 2013 & am home so i can spend more time with the cats. Leo is still into everything & recently made a mess in the bathtub by knocking over a plant I had set on the edge while cleaning. Soil spilled in the tub & he played in it making a big dirt mess for me to clean. He still has his habit of "burying" his food bowl when he eats his fill & Duchess started doing it,too. Duchess likes to watch the toilet flush & now Leo does it. COPYCATS !! Both are spoiled rotten & a joy to have.

Notes from Home
Happy New Year,(1/21/14) just wanted to say thank you for Aly - after fearing I had made a dreadful mistake in adopting a kitten with my existing 6 yr old rescue - they have finally made peace and come to terms with each other. A long haul with Aly having to set up residence in the guest bath and having to keep them separate for months -which was emotionally painful for all. I am so glad they get along - there are moments when Sammie (6 yr old) gets fed up with Aly's kitten antics and lets her know - which is healthy for Sammie to interact with her new sister.

I'll try to upload some pics!! Again thank you.

MICKEY
Hey! Do you need a lap warmer now that the cold weather is here? Do you want a built in vibrator to go with it? If the answer is yes, than I'm you man. There's enough of me to fill your lap and keep you warm, and my purr motor is non stop if you pet me. What more could you want on a cold winters night?!!

Ask about me, I'll be waiting for ya!

Notes from Home
Mickey has settled in nicely and is just a big goofy, lovable boy. He is eating well and has made himself right at home.
He loves sleeping on my new bed with me, but likes his own space, happily laying next to me. He has a lot of energy for an older cat, and his favorite thing besides eating is chasing the red dot of the lazer toy and will sit and watch for hours for it to reappear after it's shut off! He's such a character and everyone who meets him is impressed with his size and good looks.

1/21/13 I can't believe it's only a year since Mickey joined the family, it feels like he's always been here. He is a sweet lovable boy who is never far from me when I'm in the house. He as a catnip pillow that he carries around in his mouth while meowing. It is so funny to watch. He's had his vet exam and all is well with him.

1/21/14 Mickey continues to be my shadow and bed buddy. He still "talks" to his catnip pillows and grooms the other cats. He has a wide range of meows, and I'm learning what each means. I guess I now speak cat. lol. His vet checkup went well and the looks great.

ROSE
Looking for a quiet home that loves the wedgies, the Balinese (longer wispy fur) and tiny cats, I'm just under 6 pounds. The cattery was closed down, i was already spayed due to a difficult pregnancy early on, and now am looking for a quiet home where I can get lots of love and attention. You should like vocal cats and cats that want to sleep with you!

Notes from Home
Rose is getting along better with her brother Saba, she rubs up against him but he gives her the cold shoulder. But there is no hissing or aggressive behavior anymore. They eat together and sleep on opposite ends of the couch. Rose has gained a quarter pound and is eating well, I don't feel her ribs like before. Balducci's deli turkey did the trick and they automatically cut a 1/4 pound when they see me in the store, although they don't know its for a cat. Rose sleeps on my bed most nights and cries to let me know that she wants more play time with her ribbon and pom pom.

Here are pictures of our little lady! See Shuster for more details. Happy New Year!
Lois, Henry, Simone and Shuster
1/20-Simone and her brother are very happy ,healthy, active kittens. They now have access to the whole house, and always return to the bedroom and en suite for meal times and to use their liter boxes. They are friendly-in the extreme. When visitors come (we've only allowed a few adults) they come out to greet them, give them the sniff test and are ready and happy to engage with them. They show no fear or shyness. Simone is daintier than her brother , but no pushover in the rough and tumble department. They both respond to "come , "food" and lately their names. Simone is a good eater and user of her liter box. There jhave been occassions, however, when Shuster will go in her box to cover her droppings as though he feels she hasn't done a good enough job. It is quite a site.
Today is their one month check up at the vet. We expect an excellent report. Simone and Shuster both really enjoy their food. They are on Royal Canin kitten Instinstictive for wet supplemented by Royal Canin dry kitten neutered/spayed . Henry and I delight in their antics and couldn't love them more.! Details to follow after the vet.

The sweet siblings are heaven sent. They play eat and even litter box together. The are very cuddly and social, inquisitive and active. They passed their vet exam with flying colors. As I have said before, they make our hearts smile. How wonderful that we all found one another. Happy New Year to all. Lois, Henry, Simone and Shuster

Hi All, Sorry have been emailing my updates instead of posting them. Here's the scoop. no pun intended. Shuster is the master mischief maker. We are so gladwe kitten proofed the house, He is into everything! When I bake, he leaps across amazing distances to try to steal my butter. Although he is a very good eater , he tries to grab people food at every chance. He is not successful. But try he will. He is very playful. Loves Simone and they often nap cuddled together. He continues to use the liter box. He and Simone are such a delight. We love thhem more each day. Today they both go for their 1 month check up. More on Simones update.

CALI
Gentle souled 5 pound little girl looking for a gentle souled family to love me. I am sweet, petite and plain old wonderful. I have no issues or politics and love to snuggle, what more can you ask for? I do need to gain weight (just under 5 pounds) but my heart is BIG.

Notes from Home
hi. Cali has adjusted really well to our home and its people. She is fun and loving yet very independent. the first introduction to our resident cat Peanut did not go well so right now they are in separate rooms until Peanut looses his fear from Cali. She showed him who will be in charged. Our poor Peanut who is a gentle guy is very afraid of her right now. but we are patiently working with them with hopes that this relationship will work.
thanks to Peggy and Siri for their advice.

I tried to upload a couple of pictures but was not able.

I uploaded some pictures. I am falling in love with Cali I can't help it; she is sweet and fun. Peanut still is afraid but it is doing a little bit better. We are patiently waiting. Cali does not like to be away from her humans and loves attention; she is everywhere and already knows her feeding schedule. She has learned to eat wet food and loves it.

Status update from Cali:
Saturday wasCali's first month anniversary with us. She is doing well and already feeling at home; Cali is a happy and energetic cat; she is smart and communicates well when she does not like something or viceversa. Cali has a pet mouse that she brought along from foster mom's house and carries it everywhere while meowing; i tis a funny behavior.
Cali and Peanut are still learning to respect each others space but things are looking better everyday; Cali eats really well and does not leave a flake of wet food on her plate: very neat girl. She is beautiful, curious, and loving. The more i give her love; the gentler and loving she is towards me; she loves when i kiss her forehead and rests her chin in my hand while i do so.
I am sure she already learned her name as she responds when i call her to dinner or anything else; so everything is fine. We are happy she came into our lives and look forward to many many years of companionship.
thank you for all the good work you do.

Update: Dec 4,2011
Cali ihas been a great addition to our family. She is a great companion and specially loves her humans. peanut and Cali have great battles and chase each other around the house. We feel very happy to have found Cali.

1/19/2014
The female of our three cats and she knows who is the boss. Cali is our precious lady; she picked my husband as her partner and follows him everywhere; she is a wonderful companion; Cali is gorgeous, elegant, fun, cute, soft and light as a feather; I love to lifter her, hold her in my arms and kiss her forehead until she lets me know is enough. Cali and Sam (adopted from Siamese Rescue as well) have become great companions and it is wonderful to see that. Thank you for giving Cali a chance.
