Notes from Home
Little Miss Teena is adapting well to the being adopted.
She visits everyone's lap, but doesn't stay long, she has to keep on the move.
She likes to run and play and she loves play time with the feather toys that are air-born.
She will come and sleep with us a little, but then always goes and finds her Teddy Behr to bed down with for the night.
She gets loving from Teddy, but sometimes he plays too ruff and Mom has to break it up. Teddy seems to want everyone to be in their place, especially Teena. Not liking his politics too much sometimes, but we shall see.
Teena has a rash on her belly that will get looked at by the vet tomorrow. Other than that, there are no other symptoms.
She eats well, but seems to wait for permission from Teddy to eat. I sit by her bowl to give her confidence to come and start eating. Might just be the pecking order that she defers to, but since they have their own bowls and own food.... I am trying to encourage her. She is obviously not food driven like Teddy. He is always under my feet in the kitchen asking if it is second breakfast time, lunch time or dinner time??? Silly kitty.
I have purchased some high quality, high protein wet food and am introducing it to them. Weruva, and Luau foods. So far, Teena is not that interested in high protein. Too bad, cause the Weruva chicken seems good enough to make chicken salad with! Really good smelling stuff! So, we shall see. Just trying to give them the best diet to minimize chances that the rash she has is from a food allergy.
Teena is VERY sweet girl. And while being kind of aloof, she is sweet when she wants lovin'.
Teddy seems to not care if we pet him or not. But he stays in the midst of everything, so it is hard not to want to pick up that giant cat and give him a squeeze! He does tolerate me picking him up in the morning and having my cuddle - that lasts all of 30 seconds.
Teena and Teddy have great habits. Litter box perfect. We have several in the house, but they are pretty much using the same one.
We had family in town and both cats did great with all the commotion. My 85 year old mother loved having Teena jump in her lap, and even Teddy seemed to give my Mother extra attention and time getting petted! Amazing how they seem to know older people.
I would love any information about their former owner. Was she elderly? Or did she just die on the younger side from cancer? That would explain how they were so good with my Mom.
Other than that, it is still adjustment time.
Teddy is getting used to a harness. I want to be able to take him for walks since he doesn't play much and really needs some exercise.
Pictures to come.
Victoria
Teena is playing and generally having fun. She is a very sweet cat and visits our laps but doesn't stay in them. She seems very comfortable with us, and when it is time to eat in the morning she comes up on the bed and walks up your body until she gets your attention. She and Teddy are playing more nicely together. They were not for a bit of time and we were very concerned about that. Teddy has had a few "time outs" in a dark closet and that has fixed the majority of his aggression toward Teena.
Her rash is cleared up and she is very playful.
Both cats are not lap cats, but we are hopeful that some time in the future they will learn to cuddle. Maybe when it gets really cold outside.

Teena Teena, otherwise known as "Little Little" around our home is doing wonderfully.

I don't think that a cat could love the outside pool cage more. She loves to go out and have her morning, noon and evening siesta on the couch outside. What a life!
She now sleeps with us on the bed! She comes up and cuddles for more than 3 minutes now. She falls asleep and stays for an hour or so. That is major headway.
She even let the vet examine her MOUTH! THat is MAJOR! Now, he was a slick vet, but she is calming down. (He called her a tigress). Her health is good all up to date and she sneezes some (see notes on Teddy) but not as much as Teddy. So the vet is not concerned.
She is still more active than Teddy, but she doesn't really have a desire to hand out int he yard with Mom when I am doing yard work. BUT, she loves to go explore the garage when Daddy is in there. (Yes, Daddy's girl).
Both cats have really settled in. We are so happy to have them relaxed, and we are happy to be relaxed too!

I'm the most easy going loving friendly guy you can imagine. Great in all habits, I'd love to consider your home if you'd consider me!

Notes from Home
Teddy is still the Ambassador. He runs to greet us when we come home. He still has a toe fetish when he wants to eat. Otherwise he has decided that this is his home. He is not a cuddly cat. Doesn't sit on anyone's lap and is very self possessed. But anytime Teena comes over for some grooming time, he is willing to lick her until she moves away.
From our porch they can see the bird feeder and we have various guests that make the day of watching it interesting to him. Especially the chip monk that runs around the porch. That is of particular interest. He has started taking interest in play time. He goes up and down the stairs in the house a lot, so I am hoping that his weight will go down and his energy and maybe affection will go up.
The eating is going well. I had an order of high protein food arrive and we are introducing it.
Off to the vet tomorrow for their intro to our vet. But the scar from the surgery is just fine.
So while Teddy's personality is more staid and dower, Teena is the little bright light.
Victoria
Teddy has now lost a few pounds (he is 15 pounds now) and plays regularly. He runs up and down the stairs and plays with strings and watches the birds and chip monks on the bird feeder. He is a very intense cat. He seems intent on watching everything or guarding things. He is tolerating being picked up and loved on more and more but he is not a lap cat.

July 15, 2016
Teddy is still a trim 13.5 pounds. He is enjoying the Florida life of being able to come and go from the inside of the house to inside our pool cage for some sun time and stalking lizards.
He has had allergies and we are having him treated for those so they don't develop into something more. He gets vapor treatments and Lysine to boost his own metabolism. Florida has lots of allergens and he hasn't been the only family member to struggle with allergies for the first time in my life!
He is the love of the neighborhood! We go out and do gardening work and he stays right by my side. And when all my neighbors who have dogs come and congregate on my lawn to talk, he just sits by my feet and watches the dogs. Of course, some dogs are curious about him and when they get too close, Teddy steps out and puffs up and sends a "shot across their bow" to warn them that is close enough. LOL It is hysterical to see the looks on these dog's faces (who are all on leashes). They are completely abashed! LOL. So, Teddy has the respect of all the dogs on my street!
He is typical Siamese. The protector, guardian, and overall "greeter" in the home.
He even sits in our laps now! Not too often are we graced with his slow approach and timid laying down on our laps, but we get some!!!!!!!
The doctor says he also has some arthritis, which we are treating. Says it is his age. :( Getting older does take courage.
We are super happy to have this big love in our home and he is a blessing of a cat.

POLLY AUGUSTA
With soft fur and stunning blue eyes, I'm the purrfect little Meezette. I am shy and am more comfortable with other cats than humans. I could benefit from a home with another very confident cat or kitten so that I can learn to be more brave too. I love tummy rubs and being held when I'm sleepy but not when I'm trying to play. A quiet home would be my first pick, with patient people who are willing to give me time to settle in and learn to love them too. Oh and lots of toys, especially little mice. Purrs, Polly

COSMO
I recently arrived here at the Locust Grove Halfway House for Kittens, and Foster Mom says I'm pretty special. She says I'm very handsome--more pictures soon so you can see that for yourself. I'm a healthy, active boy, very vocal, and a little demanding in the affection department. And I have a purr motor that runs all the time. I am still in isolation and haven't met the resident cats, but there's a momcat type who can't wait to teach me some manners, and a crazy aunt type who just can't wait to play with me. Foster Mom says I must have an active young playmate, and she'd like to meet my future family in person. So, if you live in the Washington, D.C. metro area, Fredericksburg, Richmond, or elsewhere within 100 miles or so of Locust Grove, ask about me.

As I stated in the update on Finns page sorry for taking so long to update. Fiona is now named Emmy. She is also a great cat and are very glad we were able to adopt her. Emmy is a wonderful addition to our family. We love her very much. Emmy and Finn are still very close and bonded and they get along great with our other cats. Emmy is not as social as Finn when people come over to visit she prefers to just stay out of the way but does occasionally comes over to our friends to say hi. I just can't say enough about how great Emmy and Finn are. They really are wonderful additions to our family.

SATCHI
That is me in the front. I'm a bit needy and prefer being snuggled under your neck. Love my spine and tummy rubs and YES its true what my brudder says--I can be a cry baby for attention. Oh and my nose almost always has a dot of wet food on it. I suppose I'll grow out of that--but for now I'm just cute and playful. Love, Satchi

Notes from Home
Satchi (formerly Magnar) is doing well but is sad (as are we) at the loss of his brother, Simba, who recently passed away from fibrosarcoma. He has become very vocal and needy. Because of Simba's tumors, Satchi's vet has recommended that he not receive any further vaccinations. There seems to be a question about the correlation of vaccines and fibrosarcoma and Satchi and Simba were littermates.
Satchi is very healthy and weighs 14 pounds. He is still very kittenlike; it 's hard to believe that he was 10 years old on 10/28/14.
Diane

Satchi has become less vocal since the arrival of the kittens in January. They get along well and play together. He had some tummy issues earlier in the year but has now regained his weight and weighs 15.3 at the last vet visit. He loves his daily brushing and is very affectionate. We discussed the vaccination issue again at his last vet visit. I was concerned about the correlation of vaccines and fibrosarcoma (see above) and opted not to have him get the rabies vaccine at this time. Any advice on that?

KOKO
I just arrived with 3 of my siblings & I'm very shy at this time. I have stayed in a playpen with my sister Mara & we enjoy making each other feel safe. I'm not sure about these humans yet, but I've met several & I am starting to think they are ok.

I'm very small & it will be early January before I can go home. My other siblings are with another foster mom in VA & their names are Blanco & Blaze.

Notes from Home
All is well with KoKo. He remains shy and more reserved than his sister, KiKi, but lets me know by loud purring when he wants lap time. He eats well and is gaining weight. He sleeps with/on me or Pete every night.

KoKo is still more reserved than KiKi and hides when anyone strange comes into our house. He is very affectionate and loves to climb all over me if I lie down. He eats well and weighed 9.4 at his last vet visit - the same as KiKi although she looks plumper as she is more compact. He is the more mischievous of the two kittens and is always getting into trouble.
Both KiKi and KoKo sleep with us. They also get along very well with Satchi and they often play "chase" and hide in their tunnel.

Now how can anyone resist this little face that I have??!! I'm a shy little gal & I'll need a family that's quiet along with lots of time & patience.

Notes from Home
KiKi is a joy and is very outgoing, loves to play with her brother, KoKo, and sleeps with/on us every night. All is well.

7.09.16 - KiKi continues to be a joy. At a recent vet visit, our vet was absolute enthralled with her deep blue eyes and said he had never seen eyes that color in all of his years of practice. He even asked our permission to take a picture of her. (By that time, she was frightened and her eyes were dilated and almost totally black, so I don't think his photo turned out well.) She is very affectionate with us and with her brother, KoKo, but always hides if anyone comes to our house. She eats well and weighed 9.4 at her last visit. Her fur is longer and not as dense as KoKo's. She looks roly-poly while he is long and lean! She also brings us her toys (mice, felt bow, etc.)

MIKADO
Hi everyone! With my regal looks, Mikado means "Japanese emporer." I'm slated for royalty but need a castle with patient adopters willing to let me come around at my own pace and not rush things. My last person tried to declaw me at home, so I'm sure you can see why I might be a little nervous when I meet new people. It has taken a couple of weeks for me to trust foster mom, and now I'm at the VA Center and learning about all the other kitties - and I don't mind it one bit! If you move very quickly I shrink back, but slow movements, soft voices and love and I just melt in your arms and purr and purr away!

No new pictures yet
Notes from Home
Mikado was a perfect match for me and my other kitty Kisa. We were all together 12 happy years.
He had to have another surgery on his feet because of bone fragments from the horrible declaw his previous owners did on him some years ago but he could still walk and run and jump normally. His vet just said he walked a "little gingerly" after his surgery. He was always a little standoffish which I can't blame him for after all he had been through but he was as loving as he could be considering the circumstances. . He met me at the door daily when I got home and would sleep with me most nights (but he didn't care the ceiling fan). He was always in the same room with me when I was home; usually just out of arms reach but there were times he was affectionate. He was an excellent mouser and caught three recently in my new house. Unfortunately he passed away on 7/6/16 from a heart attack or blood clot on the way to a vet appointment. I will miss him forever. It is too painful for me to upload more photos of him right now but I will in the future. What a wonderful organization this is--I am so thankful for it and will be adopting again from SCRC.
