MISS MARTHA
Hi there!

Ready, ready, ready to go home!

I had my major inspection yesterday and I'm good to go. Can you believe it? I can...I have several years left so don't count me out. A great companion, cuddlebug, and I love other (laidback) kitties.

Lets face it--while rough and tumbling isn't my style anymore...I am a sweet, sedate lady.

So--how about bringing some sunshine home? Ask about me soon.

More to come,

Cleo 1331

Notes from Home
Miss Martha (also known as Puss or Miss Puss) is adjusting well to her new home. We've had her now for almost a month. Although initially identified as "not much of a talker" she is becoming more vocal as her confidence increases. Turns out she is an office cat and loves to lounge about on our laps whenever we are working on the computer. She also spends evenings on the couch with us and just last night we gave her free run of the house and she spent most of the night in bed with us too. She is a very sweet cat and seems to be bonding with both of us equally.

3/9/12: Forget feathers or toy mice, her favorite toy is a shoestring! Puss loves to catch the string and has a great grip with her front toes. She will chase or bat at the string, catch it, and then bite on the end, then stare at us until we make the string move for her again.

8/13/12: Puss is slowing expanding her range/territory and now regularly uses the two rooms nearest her bedroom. She likes watching the butterflies outside her bedroom window and lounging in my office chair. Puss usually comes out beyond her three rooms at least once each evening to explore the rest of the house or come sit with us on the couch for a while. Her face has darkened considerably from the fever coat she had when we adopted her--so she looks younger than she did at first. She is a very happy cat--a little bit snotty to our dogs and hesitant at first meeting new people but otherwise a very sweet and affectionate cat.

1/26/15: Puss had a pancreatitis attack in 2013 from which we were able to nurse her back to health and she rebounded to her normal quality of life. She was not as lucky with her second attack which began on 10/4/14. We were unable to halt her systems from shutting down and once her kidneys shut down we made the difficult decision to put her to sleep on 10/7/14 rather than allow her to continue to struggle for her last few hours. In her last year she had become quite comfortable with the rest of our house. Every morning she would sit next in the chair next to my husband and "help" him with paperwork. During her last six months she often would fall asleep on my chest or next to me in bed--even if there was a dog there too!

This cat is not suitable for children under the age of 5 (ie 5 and over is OK). This is typically a cat that is shy and a child might scare it, or one that has a potential to bite or play too hardNot with kids under 5
WINSTON
Initially reserved, I'm quick to warm up once I get to know you and my surroundings. I came from a quiet home as the only cat so would like to go back into a quieter situation, but other cats seem to be okay, provided no one bullies me or picks on me (in other words I think I could learn to have a cat friend).

Winston is doing well. He's relaxed and having fun playing with all his cat toys. No worries at all.

It's been six months since we had Mei Qiu with us. He's our first cat so we were unsure at the beginning but he turned out to be great! We even got him a girlfriend and they really like each other. Mei Qiu is definitely a happy cat now!

Today is Mei Qiu's first year anniversary with us. He's now a very mellow kitty and his front chest has actually become lighter in color!

LINA
I sure do like it here. Here I get to spend time with my new foster Mom and she gives my brother, Lucas, and me attention when we want it. The other place that I lived there were so many of us that there was just not enough time to get the human attention that I so love. My brother and I love it each other so much that we must go to our future new home together. I would be very unhappy without my Lucas. I can say that I have a great disposition and so does Lucas. As much as we love each other, we will love you more. So if you are interested in adding two beautiful and loving kitties to your family, then ask about me. You will be so glad that you did.
Notes from Home
I'm so sorry to let everyone know that I lost my sweet Lina the week before Christmas. I just picked up her ashes this past week. It's a plain, cream-colored urn that just doesn't fit the her unusual beauty. I always described her as a Blue Snowshoe. I never adorn my cats with collars or clothes, but I think I'll string a blue necklace for the neck of that plain urn.
I have never had a cat become so gravely ill in such a short time at such a young age. Danny, one of my almost 15 year-old Grey Tabby Bubba cats, had an infected tooth . Routine urinalysis showed he was not concentrating his urine. He was put on a low protein prescriptive diet. With no way to keep Danny out of everyone else's dry food, everyone got the Renal LP. I realized that Lina really didn't care for it. I made a couple of trips to Petsmart to find other foods that the other 3 would like and wouldn't be so bad for Danny if he raided the forbidden bowls. I was getting her to eat, but after a week I took her to the vet. Labs showed liver failure, pancreatitis and an anemia. In 10 days, she was so ill that I couldn't save her. It is devastating. I still cry when I see a picture of her. She was such a sweet beauty, so her urn will get necklace.

LUCY
Hi everyone! Nona here. I am the product of a BYB (back yard breeder) and she decided to "downsize" so she brought me to the local shelter. I am super friendly and in good condition so I have been well cared for despite the circumstances. I haven't met any of the cats here yet but I was in a cage at the shelter with one of my sisters so I'll probably be OK with other cats too but Foster Mom will find out for sure. As friendly as I am, Foster Mom says I would be enough cat to be an only cat for someone.

Why don't you get on my list so Foster Mom can tell you more about me as she gets to know me?

Happy New Year!
Love,
Nona

It's hard to believe that it's been four years since we met the couriers on a snowy cold day to receive our 2nd rescue kitty, Lucy. She has been a delight & the perfect companion to Robbie. They get along really well. She is more independent than Robbie, but LOVES to be petted & will let you know if you stop petting before she's ready. We are so happy to have both of them. so glad we found out about the Rescue.

SINBAD
I must go home with my mom, Cybele. I'm very affectionate and have been purring and nuzzling my new foster mom, even after all the changes in my life. I would love to find a home not too far away from DE.

My eye isn't the prettiest but I can see just fine with the other one. I am a very handsome, cuddly fellow who purrs and can sing you to sleep at night. Can you provide me with the love my own mom gave me since I was born?

I love other cats and doggies so can live peacefully with critters you may already have. But remember I come with my mom because we sooooo love each other.
Notes from Home
Sinbad continues to be a sweet and vocal kitty. He has maintained level renal values in the past year. He is usually cuddled up with his best buddy, Rider, or his mom, Cybele in a millie bed. Prime sunshine real estate on sunny mornings is his favorite place to take a nap.

Still loving any food I can get. Mom makes me eat that darn special food but I prefer anything else. I love, love, love snuggling with Rider or Dad. He gives me lots of pets but won't let me sleep with him at night because I make him pet me all night long. It's been just a year since we moved here and I'm glad I got such a good home.

I am the ultimate lover and eater. I quickly learned that I could open the canister with our special food in it. Finally mom caught on and took care to secure it so Cybele and I couldn't munch at will. I love my mealtimes and am sure to finish everything. I hate being separated from Cybele and nuzzle her over and over when mom brings her for her meal. We both love to spend our days on the down comforters on Mom and Dad's heated waterbed. Such a hard life we have! I love all the other kitties here and always can be found close to one or more, especially Rider. We are the same age and the best buddies! Thanks to foster mom and dad for keeping me and my mom. We love you.

It's been another year and I did well on my darn vet visit. Only thing is that I now have some stuff in my mouth that meant I had to take medicine for a lot of days. But I'm still a lover-boy and spend time sleeping humans' bed, with mom Cybele and brudder, Rider, nearby. See you all next year.

Sinbad had another year to be loving and curled up with Cybele and Rider or even us. His bloodwork and exam were good but he did have to have another dental. The vet also prescribed a strong antibiotic so his injured eye now looks almost normal. What a wonderful official geezer Sinbad is! Purrs, everyone.

Sinbad continues to be a high visibility kitty here, letting us know that dinner is late or he wants attention. She loves to be cuddled up with his mom, Cybele, or Rider if he's not on a lap. Health concerns are minimal and he loves his raw diet. He's even lost the dry food pudginess and looks great.

ROBBIE
HEY!!! Come on already, press the ask about ME button!!!

Don't you want to be greeted by two beautiful blue eyes and be asked about your day when you get home? Don't you want a kitten on your lap? Don't you want a lover boy to rub, rub, rub on you? Don't you want a kitten with bunny soft fur? You can hold me like a baby too, OK for a while at least while you tickle my chin.

Well ... what are you waiting for?!?!? I'm here! All you have to do is ask about me. I'm almost ready to go to my forever home (Foster Mummy says I need my education Tuesday next week) then I can love on YOU!

Sorry we are not good at updating. Robbie is a wonderful cat with so much personality. He is very attached to both of us, following us around & sitting in the lap of the one sitting down. He is very vocal & reminds us if we are late with a meal. We adopted Nona (renamed Lucy) about a year after we got Robbie. They are pretty attached to each other although they don't want us to notice. Robbie grooms Lucy regularly, but he's jealous if she sits in his preferred lap (Tom's or James according to your records).

CYBELE
I must go home with my son, Sinbad. We've lived together all our lives and depend on each other. I wasn't the happiest traveler so I'd like to not have to travel too far for my forever home. My foster mom says my fur feels like chinchilla, so soft and sweet, just like my voice. Do you have room for two sweets in your life?

I can tell time and will let you know when it's meal time. I will tap your cheek when I want some more pets. I will lead you to the place where you can stay a while and love on me. I will always use my litterbox.

I am very, very cuddly when I want and just love to sit right next to you and get unlimited pets. Want to be purred to sleep at night? Ask about me and Sinbad.
Notes from Home
Cybele just had her annual exam and bloodwork and is doing fabulous! Everything is right where it should be. She gently uses her paw to pat our face if we stop petting her. Always the nurturer, she remains friends with all the furry ones here.

I love my family, both humans, doggies, and kitties. Just had my annual checkup and came through with flying colors. Everything is purr-fect! Most days I spend my time sleeping on humans' bed in the sunshine. Ah, life is good.!

Cybele has celebrated another birthday with grace and sweetness. She loves to snuggle up with Sinbad and Rider in a cat-pile on our bed or a millie bed. She just had her annual exam and bloodwork and passed with flying colors.

Cybele is another year older, still very healthy and loving. She is usually sleeping in the midst of Sinbad and Rider, her two best buddies. She gently reminds us with a tap on our cheek that she wants attention if we "forget" to keep petting her.

ODIN
Foster Meowm says I am the best loverboy and I will curl up on you as soon as you sit down. Sometimes I love on the dog, too, and the dog licks me, which I don't mind, but Foster Meowm seems to think that makes me slimy. My foster brothers are fun, too.

We had a long conversation, and I told her I am one laid back kitty! Laid back does not mean lazy. I have a lot of energy and I love to race around the house after anything that moves, including my foster brothers. We run around the house side by side, up and down the stairs. Foster meowm says she may as well have bought a race track - all I know is I need to run around and keep my slim figure so someone will fall in love with me.

I did tell her I had to get rid of that picture of me in the bad place I came from, so she made me watch her fingers to get this picture. I kind of like it, do you? I am a handsome loverboy, all ready to fall in love with my furever person. You should send an email if you have room for a laid back handsome boy in your house.

Odin has been with us for seven years, and has been a great joy in our lives. He is still very active and very social. He rides in the car with me to the bottom of my driveway and nods his head up and down while he watches for the school bus to bring my daughter home. He sleeps in our beds and investigates anything new that comes into the house. He loves to chase a red laser dot and rattle around in paper bags. He is a very necessary part of our family, and I thank all of the volunteers who helped in getting him to us here in West Virginia

Notes from Home
Xena has settled in very well. She is co-existing with Zeus although not really friendly yet. They pass by each other without any issue and will eat treats together, but if food is not involved Xena prefers he stay at least 6 inches away. Now if food is involved then all bets are off, she's been known to fish treats right out from between his front feet :)
She is getting more comfortable in the house, the bedroom is still her safe room but she's spends a lot of time in the kitchen (i.e. food) and is starting to explore the living room and hang out there some. Also it appears she's starting to use the main litter boxes in the laundry room so I should be able to move the litter box out of the bedroom soon.
The only minor issue is that Zeus is a very slow eater, he takes a few bites and leaves, comes back and eats a few more bites, etc., he can take 4-5 hours to eat a third of a can of wet food. Xena is not a slow eater, she finishes hers and is quite willing to finish his too. For now they are fed in separate rooms and I pick up his food when he leaves and put it back when he comes back looking for more. When I go to work I put his bowl by his bed, if he's in his bed Xena won't go there so the food is safe as long as he's there. They both have dry available all the time but Xena doesn't need the extra wet food - and Zeus does need it, he's smaller than her and very lanky. Hopefully as she gets used to having the dry food around she won't be so determined to eat all the wet food as soon as she can.
She's playing with her toys and using the scratching post and she chatters away when I come home. She was using her favorite box that came with it for a few days but then her millie bed came and she has given up the box in favor of the millie bed. She gets in the bed and kind of lounges over the side surveying everything that is going on.
All in all Xena is a pleasure and was very easy to integrate into the household.

1/13/14 - I'm not positive but I think Xena and Zeus are interacting when I'm at work. I came home last Thursday and Zeus never woke up. I shook his bed, no response. Then I petted him and he just grumbled and burrowed down further into the bed, never opened his eyes. He was too tired to get up for dinner. A couple hours later he woke up and wanted a snack, obviously he had been doing something during the day that really tired him out.
The night before I'd been playing with Xena with 'feathers on a stick' and Zeus joined in. He's much slower than Xena but they both played without any fuss.

Also Xena is starting to relax about mealtimes. She still gets excited but she doesn't always finish everything in the first 5 minutes and then go looking for more. Sometimes she leaves some wet food and comes back later to finish.

The other night she was in the kitchen and suddenly I heard a lot of squeaking. She's found out old country houses have mice. She didn't actually kill one but she definitely put the resident mice on notice that there was a younger hunter in the house. :)

1/20/14 - Xena and Zeus are continuing to work out their relationship. Yesterday she approached him and started sniffing noses and checking him out. It only lasted a minute or two, it is the first time I've seen her make the approach though, it's usually him. She has tried to get him to chase her a few times and he occasionally complies, he's not much of a chaser and usually stops after two rooms. While she wants to run all through the house, up and down stairs, etc.. He's tried to get her to wrestle, she wants nothing to do with that. At this point they appear to have two different play styles and are working out what to do with each other. I have seen him pick up a toy and go over to her and chat, she ignored him so he went and played by himself. His play sessions are usually pretty short 5-10 minutes, which isn't surprising at his age.

Xena did have a couple episodes on inappropriate elimination, she urinated upstairs a couple times. Not all the time but more than once. Since the downstairs is such an open environment and because Zeus uses all 3 litter boxes that are downstairs I thought she might not be that comfortable and wanted more privacy. I got another (4th) litter box and set it up upstairs. She is using it and so far no more 'outside the box' issues. I'll keep my fingers crossed this solves the issue. I've seen her stop playing and go running upstairs and then hear her scratching in the box. Zeus very rarely goes upstairs anymore so she's got a private box now. If that's what it takes so be it.

1/28/14 - Had a breakthrough last night. Xena has been very friendly but she tends to confine herself to the bedroom, kitchen, and upstairs. She looks into the living room and occasionally passes through but that's it. I tend to spend time with her in the kitchen during the evening. Yesterday there was a lot of snow so after work I had to clear the driveway in addition to other chores after work so didn't get into the house until late. I did pet her and talk to her while I was getting dinner, I was tired though and went to sit in the living room right after eating. Zeus promptly crawled in my lap. Xena came and looked in, I called her over but she grabbed a toy and started playing with it where I could see her, chirping away. When that didn't get me out of the chair she made a few run bys, then all of a sudden jumped up onto the arm and sniffed at Zeus, he ignored her. She sat on the arm a few minutes while I petted her and then went down to the ottoman and took a very thorough bath. After that she curled up leaning on my legs and went to sleep. She stayed there until I got up to go to bed. Maybe she's starting to get the idea we can all hang out together, nothing bad will happen :)

3/27/14 - It's been a while since the last update, kind of been buried under winter, hasn't everyone. Xena seems to be fully settled in. Whenever I sit down to relax in the evening she comes running chirping away to sit on my lap, doesn't matter if Zeus is there or not she'll share my lap with him now. At first she was very particular about making sure he wasn't touching her at all, now if his tail happens to stray into her territory it's no big deal.
She's had no more accidents since put a litter box upstairs. She uses it most of the time but occasionally will use one of the downstairs ones.
She's turned out to be a pretty demanding lady, she wants what she wants and there is no compromise :) She has decided she likes duck better than chicken so on the days she gets chicken she sniffs it and runs after me complaining that she's hungry and there is no way she can eat THAT. I ignore her and then to concedes to eat chicken. Poor thing. Also every evening when I get in from doing the barn chores she must have her dental treats. She just must, she finds it very annoying that I take off my boots and coat first.
And she loves to play. Who knew a pipe cleaner would be a favorite toy.
She is really a joy to have around.

6/11/14 - Xena continues to be a joy. She is a smart little thing. With the arrival of spring some bold mice decided to move it. Xena enjoyed this immensely. After she'd catch one she had to sing and chatter for a good 10-15 minutes letting me know in detail how she did it. Unfortunately many of these adventures occurred in the wee hours of the morning. One morning at 3AM I was awakened by the mouse song, got up and disposed of the body. Xena was not done singing, knowing it was a bad move even as I was doing it, I gave her a treat so she'd quiet down. I just wanted to go back to sleep. Next day at 3AM she's singing away again, got up but could not find any body. Then I noticed something on the bed, looked a little bigger than a mouse, check it out and it's a glove. Had to explain to her she did not get a treat for 'killing' a glove at 3AM. Actually she would never get a treat for killing a glove :)
I believe the body count stands at 6 for now. Haven't been any new 'adventures' for a couple weeks. She still prowls the kitchen every night after it gets dark though.

8/15/2014 - A sad update. I lost Zeus this week. He was bright and alert but his body was failing him. He was 19. Xena is alone now. I'm watching her to see how she handles it. She didn't appear to interact with Zeus that much but he was there with her and now she's alone all day. She does come running whenever I come in the house, chatting away and wanting petted so I think she's feeling a little lonely. After a few minutes she settles down and once she sees I'm staying inside she heads off to do 'cat things'. I'll see how she adjusts in the next couple weeks.

1/23/15 - Earlier this week Xena decided she hated the boys, hated them! Not that I really blame her. She consented to let Magnus lay next to her, not cuddling, but touching. Then when her back was turn he attacked her in a full blown wrestle maneuver. Xena does NOT wrestle. There was much hissing, and growling, and yowling. Then she retreated to the upper levels of the cat tree and fumed. If anyone even thought of getting near the tree she made it known they were not welcome. Next morning she was still holding a grudge, no one could come within 15 feet of her. By evening she'd settled down. Then last night she let Magnus lay next to her again, but gave Snarf the evil eye when he was thinking of getting up on the chair. So while I was at work sly little Magnus convinced Xena it was all Snarf's fault :) Luckily Snarf is so easy going he just adjusts, well it looks like she's in a bad mood I'll just walk over here, no big deal. This morning she was letting Snarf rub against her while they were waiting for breakfast so I guess things are back to normal. Xena seems to feel she needs to keep a closer watch on Snarf. Poor Snarf he wasn't even in the room when it happened.
