Please see update and pictures for both girls on Dinah's Update Form.

2/26/16: Phoebe was just tested with a combo FeLeuk test and the result? NEGATIVE, just as I felt when I was first notified of her exposure to a kitty in foster care at the same time who later tested positive. My heart and prayers go out to this kitty's adoptive family. I have been where they are now.

7/11/16: Please see the 6-month update for Phoebe on Dinah's page.

Christmas 2016: Please see the update for both kitties on Dinah's page.

Dinah is my seal snowshoe, and Phoebe is my blue snowshoe. This update and the attached pictures apply to both of my girls. They are both doing exceeding well. This morning--after eating a hearty breakfast, watching the birds and squirrels eat their seeds, and chasing the laser spot--the girls are basking in the morning sun on my bed. This is a pretty typical scenario. Oops, no, they are back downstairs with me again. In the beginning . . . Phoebe was ready to adapt the morning after I picked her up in Richmond from the Meezer Express. It took Dinah a couple of weeks to feel as comfortable, but she always ate and drank and used her litter box well. She finally emerged from under the bed in the guest bedroom to join the fun downstairs on a regular basis. Now they both sleep at the bottom of my bed--on a warm wool afghan--every night. About a week ago, they had their veterinary exam. They just hated the car ride but were very curious and content once out of the carriers in the exam room. The fecal samples were negative, but Phoebe had an ear infection. I just completed the twice daily, 10-day treatment, not the high point of her day. But I know her ears must feel so much better now. The vet thought that Phoebe's rather meager coat was due--not to having been shaved at some point--but to excessive self-grooming. The thinning was all in an area easily accessible to her rough tongue. Rather than use drugs--the vet suggested Benadryl--I opted to let the calm and stability of her new home work its magic. I am using Feliway upstairs and downstairs, and will keep an eye on the progress of her coat. She does not seem to be a nervous cat. In a few weeks, we return to the vet's for the conclusive FeLeuk combo test. Finally, I am such a happy and proud adoptive mother. I couldn't ask for funnier, prettier, more loving kitties. Thanks a million!

2/26/16: Dinah was just tested with a combo FeLeuk test and the result? NEGATIVE, just as I felt when I was first notified of her exposure to a kitty in foster care at the same time who later tested positive. My heart and prayers go out to this kitty's adoptive family. I have been where they are now.

7/11/16: This is the report for both Dinah and Phoebe. We are at the 6-month mark of adoption and things have really changed. Dinah, who spent the first several weeks under the bed in the guest room "assigned" to my two new kitties is now the dominant one. Her sister, fearless Phoebe, who was out and about the whole house the day after they arrived and who periodically dominated Dinah in the bedroom (jumped on her when she did emerge) is now subservient to her. But there generally is harmony. I feed the girls Natural Balance canned food both morning and evening, with a dry food chaser (which they love). I don't dare offer dry food free choice because Dinah (my chow hound) would eat all of it all the time. She has a tendency to gain weight, so I have figured out how much food to give her to keep her weight steady--wish I could do that for myself. I feed Phoebe a tiny bit more because she is a smidge bigger and seems to need more to eat. She manages to maintain her weight more easily than does Dinah. With no free choice dry food, I need to feed them a bit midday, which is unfortunate but doable. Although the girls are not cuddly--no lap sitting--they do like to be in the same room with me and follow me upstairs and down. Initially, scratching my furniture was a big problem, but I have several scratching posts around the house and they have learned to use those (almost) exclusively. Still trying to get them to enjoy being brushed. Dinah enjoys it more than does Phoebe, but they both still squirm a lot and prefer to walk around during the grooming session. Regarding Phoebe's issue with overgrooming, the situation had ameliorated somewhat. But now she is back at it and has decimated her beautiful coat on her tummy and upper arms. If anybody has any ideas other than medication, I would appreciate some help with this. A new problem: within the past few weeks, Dinah urinated three times away from the box: once on a throw rug in front of the kitchen door, once on a throw rug in front of the dining room door, and once on a fabric grocery bag that she loves to roll around on. The two doors are glass doors, where both girls love to sit and look out at the back yard. I put a litter box in the downstairs bathroom and the problem has not returned. Hope this easy access on the first floor is a permanent solution. Allthough my girls are very different from other kitties I have had (predominantly male) in that they are not particularly affectionate either with me or with each other, they are adorable, and I love them to bits.

Christmas 2016. Below is the paragraph on Dinah and Phoebe that I included in my annual letter to family and friends:

When I thought back on 2016, it seemed like a very quiet year. But my calendar painted quite a different picture, which explains why I continue to find so much satisfaction in retirement. But the very best day occurred early in the year. On January 9, I drove down to Richmond to pick up my two, 2-year-old, blue-eyed adopted kitties. They had traveled from Columbia, South Carolina, that morning, so they endured an exceedingly long day. And the adventure of adapting to a totally new home and to me was just beginning. I named them Phoebe (left, below) and Dinah, which fits them perfectly. Phoebe had a very strange hairdo. Her coat from mid-back to rear end looked as though it had been shaved and was growing out. But alas, it became clear that she was over-grooming (pulling out her hair). Goodness knows what my girls underwent before or after they were turned in to a rural pound—before Siamese Cat Rescue saved them. I am happy to report that Phoebe’s coat has filled out beautifully and that she is now just as poufy, like a little gray cloud, as her sister. She is also just as calm and contented as Dinah. Seeing those little faces in the sidelights to my front door whenever I return home is a true joy. (See current photos uploaded.)

Notes from Home
12/30/2011-

Zeke and Mea arrived at our house almost two weeks ago; it took Mea a little time to start getting comfortable, not Zeke. It took him about ten minutes to get comfortable and start exploring the entire house. In less that an hour he was finding every possible thing he could to get into. He has discovered the fish in the Aquarium, anything on the counters he can get his eyes on and I fear for our Christmas Tree. I have never seen a cat carry so much stuff around in his mouth. I can’t tell you how many times we have thought, "I know that toy was downstairs last time I saw it" He even tries to drag a wand toy up the stairs with him. He is absolutely fearless and non-stop entertainment. Thanks again to everyone at SCRC for Zeke and Mea. They are well on there way to being spoiled rotten.

It has been one month since bring Zeke and Mea home. Luckily, our house is still standing! :0) Zeke is an energetic kitten who loves to be around his sister, Mom and Dad. He is playful and HUNGRY. He was only 5 pounds when we brought him home but is is growing fast.
Zeke is fascinated by water! He loves to sit by the sink in both the kitchen and bathroom. He has also explored the shower. He is always entertaining!
Zeke and Mea are wonderful additions to our family. Thanks to Julie for being a great foster mom to them.

Zeke made his first vet visit. All went well. The staff could tell he had lots of personality! He wasn't scared at all and enjoyed exploring the exam room. Of course, he found the sink! A cat who loves water! Who would have guessed it!

Zeke and Mea have been in their new home for 2 1/2 months now. They have brought us so much joy!
Zeke is growing so fast. When we first brought them home, Mea was twice his size but now she only out weights him by a pound or two. He is really growing up to be a big boy! His energy level has not changed. He loves to play and his favorite toy is a spring! His Daddy bought him a bag of 10 springs this week because we were afraid he would lose his favorite one so now we have back ups. Foster Mom Julie suggested that we may be able to teach him to fetch and she was right! He will play with us and bring the spring back and forth to us to throw. Of course, his attention span isn't that long so eventually he will get distracted and forget to come back.
Zeke loves to water and sink area either the kitchen or bathroom. When the water is turned on, he leaps onto the counter so he can bite at the water. He has even started putting his head under the water flow so he can drink the water. Mom is trying to get a picture of this but never has her camera close at hand.
Zeke is also close to understanding the noise that the garage door makes and many times will be waiting at the door when we come home! We love having him welcome us home after a long day at work! He is such a good boy!

Can you believe we have been a family for almost 6 months?? I have grown into a big boy. Mea was bigger than me but I have caught up and passed her. Mom thinks I weight at least a pound or two more than Mea now.
Mom and Dad installed a cat door to the screen porch and I LOVE IT. I go “outside” when ever I want to. I love to chill out, watching and listening to the birds or the neighborhood children.
I still love water! Every night and morning when Mom and Dad are brushing their teeth or washing their faces, I put my head in the sink to drink water or try to bat the water around. I even “help” Dad wash his breakfast dishes. I am such a good helper!
Mom and Dad try to pick me up and give me kisses but I don’t like that too much. Boys don’t like that kiss-y stuff. I tell them don’t touch me, it has to be my idea! I do love to rub on their legs! When they are standing or walking, I love to rub up against them.
I love to eat! I know when it is time to be feed and I jump on the counter so I can be the first one to eat especially on wet food nights. Mea can’t jump that high so she waits on the floor until her food is served. Mom and Dad say she is a grazer but they say I am a pig! I eat it all even what Mea leave in her bowl! Yummy!
I am so glad that Siamese Cat Rescue help make us a family!
Zeke

December 2016 - We can't believe it has been 5 years since Mea and Zeke became apart of our family! They have added so much joy to our lives! To update you on Zeke, he is so active but he is slowly becoming the lap cat that Mom craves. He loves the days that his Mom doesn't work so they can hang out together on the couch or in her craft room. Zeke does not believe a cat's place is on the floor, he is such a jumper. He loves to hang out on the table by the front door or on the kitchen table so he can watch what is going on outside. Don't tell the health inspector but Zeke loves to jump on the counter when someone is cooking. We say he is supervising. We also find him in the plant shelf or on the banister by the stairs. Zeke prefers the cold weather, we find him on the screened porch in the winter but he stays in the air conditioning when the weather is hot. When we got Mea and Zeke, she was bigger and being 3 months older, she was the "big" sister. Zeke is now the "big boy"! Mea adores him. He weighs a pound or two more than she does. The vet says he is super healthy. We are so thankful to have Zeke and Mea as a part of our family!

12/30/2011-
Well Mia has almost two weeks in her new home. After a slow start, she is getting braver every day and is spending more time exploring her new digs. We have fixed the bed so that she can't hide under it and that helped tremendously in making her more comfortable. She loves her treats and has figured out that when she gets on our bed there is a good chance she is going to get some. She has enjoyed playing with her buddy Zeke (Xebec), We are waiting for her to realize she is twice as big as he is and take advantage of that. When the two of them are running around upstairs and we are downstairs, it sounds like a herd of cattle going through the house. Thanks to everyone at SCRC who made it possible for this sweet girl to come into our lives.

It has now been one month since we brought Mea and Zeke home with us. Mea rarely hides from us now. She is very comfortable running and playing all over the house. Mea is our sweet girl! She sleeps in the bed at night but is not ready to cuddle just yet. Mea has great manners and is a great big sister to little Zeke. She is amazed at his energy but pities his lack of wisdom! Someone needs to stop and think before he jumps! :0) We are certainly in love with our Mea!

Randy and Melissa

Jan. 27, 2012
My first vet visit went great! I was such a good girl. I have gained a pound and the vet thought I looked like a healthy girl. I had a mani and pedi while I was there also. The people at Town and Country are really nice. They said I was beautiful!

March 3, 2012
It has been 2 1/2 months since Mea and Zeke moved into their new home. They have brought us so much joy. Mea is showing that she is not the shy little girl that we thought she was. When we have company, she wants no part of it but when it is just family time, oh that is a different story! She is very much a Daddy's girl and loves to lie in her Dad's lap at night. When he is not home, she can sometimes be found lying in his closet. She is very interested in people food! Her nose brings her running when it is mealtime. She can even sniff out a sandwich! She shows her assertive side when she wants to taste what we are eating! Mea also loves to play. She and Zeke love to chase each other. Sometimes it sounds like we have a stamped of cattle living in our house they way the run and make noise! Mea loves to jump and loves to chase her shiny ball! (Mea still doesn't like a camera so it is hard to share pictures with you!)

Melissa and Randy

May 26, 2012
I am a year old now!
Oh how Mea has become more comfortable and confident since arriving at her forever home! We thought she was a shy girl but that was just an act! She is the Queen of the house. She has lost her baby fat and is a beautiful young lady.
She likes her alone time in the morning but loves to play with Mom, Dad and little brother Zeke in the evenings. Her favorite toy is not a toy but aquarium grass! For her birthday, we had to buy new grass because she has played with the other until it only had a few sprigs left. She also loves her occasional treat of catnip in a bag. Unfortunately, after playing with that, Mom has to get out that loud vacuum cleaner! Mea does not like loud noises! Mea plays hard! Watch out when Mea and Zeke are chasing each other, we have found it is safer to just stop where you are and let them charge past you! Mom and Mea have recently found out that if Mom opens one drawer in the bathroom, Mea can use that as a step to use to get to the counter top. Zeke can jump on the counter with a single bound. Mea isn’t the high jumper that he is but she is a problem solver so she figures out a way to get what she wants!

We love our girl and are so happy that Siamese Cat Rescue brought her into our family!

Melissa and Randy

December 2016 - We can't believe it has been 5 years since Mea and Zeke became apart of our family! They have added so much joy to our lives! To update you on Mea, she is still our shy little girl. She prefers to be home with just her family. A knock on the door or doorbell on television will send her running upstairs! She is getting braver, when visitors come to the house and she is on the screened in porch, she will stay outside instead of running inside to hide. Mea loves hot weather!! Her favorite place in the summer is the screened in porch. She loves laying out on pillows. She also loves to lay in front of the fireplace when the weather is cold. She has her Dad wrapped around her little paws! She still loves treats and believes when ever anyone is near her treat jar, they should give her treats. Mea is such a happy little girl. We love to watch her as she naps and will see her roll over on her back to show off her white belly! We are so happy to have Mea as a part of our family!

JENNIFUR
Brief story - owner passed away, neighbor took me in, neighbor moved, neighbor tossed me (and his other cats) outside and he drove away, nice lady and her teen son saved me, nice lady and teen son couldn't find other cats but they did contact Siamese Rescue to find me a forever home.
k...that's it - the end to the sad chapter in my life. Time to move on to the next wonderful loving chapter.
Foster Mary tells me the rest of my life is going to be absolutely wonderful and I will once again be a precious beloved family member.
Is that going to be your family?

Notes from Home
Hi everybody I have a new home and name, I am now Jennifur. I wanted to send you some pictures from my new home and to let you all know how happy I am still a little shy but enjoy exploring the house and mingling (but not snuggling) with the boy cats, I have even stop whacking Tony when he tries to eat my food (I share now). Todays pictures are of My Chair (that's right mine, mine, mine). I enjoy napping with my new Mom & Pops and they tell me I'm doing all the right things. -- More later as I have more Tales to Tell -- Ta-Ta for now, its time to explore.

Well, I've got those 3 stinky boy cats now in line and my new mom & pops have me roaming the house. I'm still not sure if I want to be snuggled but I will sit on pops lap. I like to be in the same room with my new family but I'm not quite sure I want to be picked up and held. Other wise pops says I have a good appetite, I don't make messes, and I'm cute as a button.

01/28/2014 - Well I have been here a month now, and have my new family wrapped around my paws. The boy cats and I are getting along but I haven't decided if I like the taste of their cat food yet. I have the run of the house, I follow my new pops around, and I event sleep next to his feet at night (I'm glad he washes them). He tells me that he is glad that I have started talking to him when I want his attention. Any how I will send you my next note in a month or so to let you know about how I'm doing.

02/14/2014 - Life is good, To help around the house I keep mom & pops mail warm by sitting on it in the basket Mom & Pops keep on the table. Tony, Shay, and Shadow are my best buds, and I even get along with the new female foster kitty Pops has. Pops gave me a little mouse toy that he says came from somebody he calls "crafters" that I like to run around with, drop, and then talk up a storm about having dropped it. Pops is so funny when he comes running to see what's wrong. I have even conned him into giving me pieces of simple grilled chicken (Hee,Hee). Yes life is good, but I don't like the white stuff that falls from the sky and makes my house colder since I don't know how to turn up the heat. Pops added two new pictures that I hope you enjoy.

I like it here, 3 cat trees, good food, two human servants to sleep with, and four other cats (one always a foster) to play with, As you can see I have my own padded seat to watch T.V. from.

Thank you aunt Mary, aunt Dorsey, and aunt Siri for helping me get home to Casa Kuck..

Jennifur continues to be a happy cat, She enjoys the company of her companions and has a perch on the top of the bedroom cat tree. She also has two close companions as shown in the picture and holds her own with my cat shadow (who she whacks every now and then when he try's to get up-close and personal.) Life is good at casa Kuck there are cats to play with, warm laps and cuddles.

Purrs and headbutts!

Just letting everyone know that Purrsi and I are doing great. I love her and am so happy we are a family. She seems happy to be here and loves following me around and purring up a storm. I've included a glamour shot I took of her lounging like a princess on the couch.

Wow, time flies! Purrsi is still doing great. She just had her check up and received a clean bill of health. My mother gave me an electric blanket for Christmas, specifically with Purrsi in mind. She loves it! There haven't been any major changes. We still live in the same apartment, no new pets, children, illness, etc.

Notes from Home
Simba is happy and healthy. He continues to surprise us by growing more comfortable month by month even after two years, overcoming whatever trauma he had in his past homes. For instance, just in the past two weeks for the first time he jumped directly into each of our laps on different occasions, where before he would only jump up beside us and put a head and shoulder into our laps. Also, while he had purred a tiny bit here and there, in the last 4 months he has started purring more regularly and loudly.

We are not big pet picture takers, but I have uploaded a few from the past 6 months.
