Sammy/Dusty is a very sweet cat. He has adjusted well. My older kitty Honey is still getting use to him but I am sure in a few weeks she will be fine. He loves to play and can amuse himself for long periods of time . Last night was the first night on the bed with me and boy is he a snuggler. He also likes to follow me around to see what I am doing. All in all he is a great guy and I am sure the three of us will have many happy years together. Thanks everyone that assisted with the adoption. This is an excellent group and it is organized so well. My best to all

Bill, Dusty and Honey

Things are not going as well as expected. Dusty is chasing Honey and she is hissing and spitting. She is now lying under the bed and is also urinating outside the box. Dusty is really a sweet cat but Honey hates him.I have carpet through out my condo and I can't have her urinating outside the box I am not sure what to do next. Please any suggestions.

FRANKIE
Seems a lot of people want me to adorn their home with my handsomeness!!! Well who can blame them.
We're trying to work out some of my quirky behaviors - like my need to yowl.
I am marked "escape artist" as I show way too much interest in windows - not doors (they tend to scare me) but windows I cannot resist - to the point where blinds and curtains are at risk.
You see I used to be an intact outside tom cat.
A small portion of this has been taken care of and I'm trying to curb the urge to go outside. Slowly this urge is lessening but I still enjoy a good yowling around the house to make it known that it's hunting time. Eventually I'll learn that I don't need to forage for myself at night.
Foster Mary finds me to be a lovable big guy who likes to snuggle.
I will follow the man that lives here around like a dog. He exercises me that way - he walks around the house saying my name and I follow yelling his!!! Every few steps he'll bend over to pet me and I continue following him. It's fun.
Notes from Home
Frankie is quite a character!! Amusing and loving. He is 12 lbs now. Follows and talks. Really enjoys attention. Could not ask for a better animal.
9/21/15 Frankie has adjusted well and is adored by everyone who meets him he has put on a few lbs. and we are working on that. He loves to be with us and meets us at the door when we return to the house. He lost that full winter coat and is darker now. He is a beauty but does like to give little bites. Anyhow if you can't already tell he is a very important member of the family who is loved!!

Notes from Home
Saturday December 6, 2015 I picked up little Elin in Richmond and we rode home to Manassas together. She wasn't talkative and seemed calm listening to some light classical music. I was able to pet her with no problems.
Once home she darted out of the carrier before i could shut the door and ended up hiding under my bed. (My older cat was also under the bed) They sat together until i was able to get the older cat out of the room. I left her under my bed and brought out her food and water.
Overnight i noticed she used the cat box in the bathroom but she was still hiding under the bed.
Sunday 12/7/14 Still under the bed, She ate and used the liter box. I emailed Sheri and Debra for tips on getting her to come out. I stayed upstairs and talked to her. Laid on the floor etc. In the evening i decided to try to get her into the bathroom so i could work closely with her and monitor her. She was not happy about that. She bit me in several places, urinated and scratched me, then ran into the bathroom. She was terrified. Once in the bathroom i closed the door.
Sunday evening my son came home and we started reading to Hailey Elin (new name. She seemed to enjoy it but remained in her liter box.
Monday 12/8 She has moved into her carrier. Her cat liter was all piled up in a mountain formation so i checked and she has used the box both #1 & #2. Cleaned her box while my son talked to her. She remained in her carrier listening. We started playing light Christmas music for her and added some toys into the room. Monday afternoon my son and i came in again and red to her. She had eaten all her food. :=)
Tuesday 12/9 An amazing step in the right direction. This morning Hailey was in her carrier when i came in to read. An hour later my son wanted to come in. He told me where to sit and he sat by her carrier. He put his hands to his side and she came out slowly and sat in his lap. We were able to pet her today and it was amazing! She seems to be coming around a little more each day. We plan on taking it slow she will remain in the bathroom for another week.
Until she is fully comfortable i do not plan on taking her to the vet. I called and made an appointment for December 23. If she is stable enough to take the trip we will go then, otherwise i will reschedule the appointment for the following week.
More updates tomorrow!

She greeted me this evening wanting to be pet. She has something hard on the tip of her tail.
I'm guessing poop. I'll have to wait til we go to the vet to try to get it off. She's making great progress day by day.
12/12/14 Hailey is still hiding in her carrier. She does come out to bet pet and moves around when I'm in the room.
Purr is nice and loud. Moved her vet date up to monday. Hope she doesn't get too upset. I've switches toys and liter boxes.
She didn't seem to mind. Neither did smokey. I think another few days and I'll open the door to the bedroom. Maybe after the vet check up. She truly is sweet.
12/13 it's been 7 days I think she'd come out. Not yet. I left the door open to the bedroom. She stayed in her carrier.
It's discouraging but I know she'll come around sooner or later. She loves to be pet but won't venture around yet. It's funny she feels safe in the carrier. I just don't want her to get stuck under the bed again.

12/15 We went to the vet today. She did very well. Got the stuff off her tail, a little nail trim and some flee treatment just incase. She didn't hiss or claw. Even let me pet her the while time. We are back at home. She hates the sound of the vacuum. I plan on letting her into my bedroom now. Hopefully she'll come out to be pet and look around.
Another good day.

12/16/14 Hailey is under my bed again. Hopefully she will come out once she feels more comfortable. I am not going to attempt to get her out. My son left the bathroom door open at night and she must have come out to explore. I can see her and she is still eating and using the liter box. I may attempt to let my resident kitty in and see how we do for a few days.. It will either scare her more or get her to come out and play. We shall see. At least she isn't in the carrier anymore. I did read up some more on the integration process today. It could take as much as 6 months so I'm not too worried. I see improvements with her everyday,
When I got home today she came out to get some love! Woohoo
12/18 still under the bed. But she's been coming out more often and has been playing with toys at night. Such a sweetie.
She is talking to smokey through the door. :-) I think I need to let him in this weekend.

Everything is going well. She still hides under the bed during the day but comes out to play at night. Love her so much!

1/17/15 Hailey Elin came surprised me today. I'm sitting downstairs watching a movie. She walked into the room slowly and sat down. She checked something's out and the left. It was so nice to see her downstairs.

5/24/15 We put Smokey down last month. It was a very sad time for us, even Hailey was showing signs of distress.
I will miss Smokey terribly however Hailey is taking on a new personality all her own. Man does she like to talk!
We truly love her and still feel like she was the perfect new addition to our family.
Just wanted to check in.

9/21/15 We have decided that Hailey Elin needs a friend. She is still shy but very vocal. Her personality is amazing and we love her to pieces. She does need someone to play with now. We've opened up the application again in hopes to find a young friendly male for her to raise and play with.

REESES
Tossed outside where I got an awful eye infection, I have now recovered and am one TALKATIVE friendly Tonkinese! Check out my video two minutes after I arrived, I'm all about being your best buddy!
Notes from Home
I have had this sweet-heart home only for about 30 hours of which probably half have been in my arms or lap. This cat has a PhD in lap sitting. Gentle and trusting. He cuddles up with any one who picks him up and crawls up your shoulders. Does not like closed doors and sounds like a cougar is howling - not a tiny cat.

Nov. 7, 2013

Have changed his name to Reeses. He is a warm chocolate color and sweet like candy. Went to the vet - health all good. He has settled in well at the house - but a bit scared of my dog. Maybe while a stray he had a run in with a dog.

Just a sweet gentle cat that is a professional lap sitter and tries to steal my pillow at night.

Nov. 25
Took Reeses to a Vet eye specialist to see if anything further could be done for his eye. The vet confirmed he is blind in his right eye and there was nothing further that could be done. Siamese rescue got him over the infection and he came to me healthy and happy. Or as Siri says - grateful for a second chance. The Vet did give him an age estimate closer to 4 or 5 years. Apparently, cats around 6 or 7 develop something in their eyes that he does not show in his good eye.

He appears to have settled in well, my other cats have accepted him - almost from day one he is such a mellow cat. He loves people - but still not too sure about dogs.

July 7, 2014

Reeses is such a great cat. Large personality, very confident, gets along with cats, dogs, and any person who crosses his path (a potential back scratcher). At the same time he is so very mellow. No matter where I am sleeping in the house - he finds me and crawls right next to me. He is a furnace during the summer - a bed warmer during the winter months. I wanted to name him cougar since he has this loud cry that he gives when he is searching for someone to pick him up and hold him.

I am so very happy with him. Even my other cats are totally fine with this mellow guy.

Sept 27, 2014 Adopted another Siamese Rescue cat in September. Reeses loves him. Check out the video :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89-seEQSF3E&feature=youtu.be

Well almost 2 years with Reeses. Great cat. Sleeps on my bed every night, hops on my lap to watch the evening news, hops on my lap in the morning to read the newspaper, hops on my lap when at the computer....you get the idea - world class lap cat. He is a talker too! He has discovered that if he goes in the bathroom it echos. Therefore when he wants attention he goes in there and "talks" very loudly. Usually I walk over to him and say Reeses! and he just runs away - it is a game for him. Besides a great people cat - he is a great buddy for my other cats. All cats seem to accept and love him too. He is not the prettiest cat - blind in one eye and lost his tail - but he is the best cat. Highly recommend a Tonkanese!

Notes from Home
Sept. 7, 2014. Brought Livingston home. He is very affectionate and purrs when anyone pets him. He has eaten a bit and used the box - but not done much of anything other than busy exploring his room. Will update further in a week or two - once we have figured out what to name him.

September 27 Changed name to KitKat. Doing well and my other cats accepted him fairly quickly. He loves Reeses my other Siamese Rescue cat. Check out the video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89-seEQSF3E&feature=youtu.be

April 18,2015 Six months with KitKat and he is a bit of a puzzle still. He loves to eat and will try and eat my other 3 cat's food. He can be very pushy to get it too. He is not a lap cat but if I pick him up and pet him he purrs and closes his eyes, but then the minute I stop he is off. He gets along well with my other Siamese Rescue cat - a male Tonkanese who is the most gentle loving cat ever. With my female tortie Balanese he is fine - as long as he obeys her rules. Hey she is the queen here. Being a young cat he has lots of energy and does not stay put in any one place long. No aggression in him and if the other cats say no - he will back down and walk away. He is all about fun and play and having him with other cats is good for him.

One year already? Kitkat is a kitten still, or maybe it is the Snowshoe coming out, but he loves to play. He loves to wrestles with Reeses my other Siamese Rescue. My daughter stayed with me this week with her big Siamese who is rather dominate. Kitkat kept tackling him to play with him. He would usually play - but it always started with a look on his face of where did this come from?
KitKat has been marking around the house - particularly if we bring something new home and leave it on the floor too long. So we have put a couple of empty plastic litter boxes that he uses at least once a week. He seems to like to pee on plastic - so hey - it seems to have stopped his marking other places. Not sure who is training who here. He is otherwise a nice cat. Not a lap cat yet - but I am sure in a few years when he mellows he will be a big mush.

MERCEDES
Hello - Biscuit maker #1 here wanting to get to know you. My sister, Iris, and I just arrived at Hotel delShue this weekend. Hey, we fit right in, since we are both stunning blue lynx snowshoe babies. Our claim to fame here is the fact that we can make more biscuits than any two other cats in the house. You see we are both polydactyl kitties. I have seven toes on each foot in the front and six toes on each foot in the back. I'll tell you, that's a lot of toes, but HEY, if you want some heavy baking to go on in your hosue with lots and lots of biscuits made, all you need is the two of us. We'd really like to go home together as we are pretty dependent on each other. If you know much about lynx kitties, snowshoe kitties and polydactly kitties, you'll know that they are all usually laid bhack and easy going. That's us, AND we are still the BEST biscuit makers ever. Be sure to ask about us if you'd like to have 50 biscuits made on you at a time!! Purrs and headbutts, Daisy
Notes from Home
Hi Everyone,
Mercedes is also doing great. She is still the more shy of the sisters but she frequently comes to us and demands attention. She also loves to play with the feather toys and is quite the acrobat. The attached picture was also taken in the Spring in her favorite spot.
Take care,
Pat

PORSCHE
Greetings from number two biscuit maker, Iris!! If you haven't taken the time to look at our gallery pictures, you need to see Daisy and me with our very special "biscuit making" feet. We have SOOOOO many toes that Mama Katie loses count when she tries to trim all of them. Between Daisy and I, we could fill your house with tons of biscuits (and love) in NO time. We are SUCH sweet girls and love people, too. We are a little shy at first, but let us get started and there are more biscuits than you can count in just a jiffy. And, talk about beautiful - oh, my. We are both blue lynx snowshoes. Daisy and I would love to go to our forever home together. We came from a house that had LOTS and LOTS of cats, and we need to keep each other company. Be sure to ask about me, - Iris - biscuit maker #2.

Hi Everyone,
Porsche is still doing great. In Oct, 2014, my mother came to live with us and her cat, Becky. She was not happy living with her new friends, but Porsche (our good will ambassador) slowly got her to come around. I've attached a picture taken in the Spring.

LILY
Foster Mom and Dad say I am just the sweetest kitty ever! Foster Dad kept me company last night... cuddling on the bed and watching TV... his best work... I did not mind... I like to be with people. I should meet the other house kitties soon so foster mom will know what I prefer... with or without?

I am as sweet as they come with "fairy dust" on my face and ears and some on my feet. Yes, I am kitten sized. Want to dance among the fairies with me? If you see my video you will see I have somewhat of a foot fetish ... I love attention!!!!

Lily lightfoot
Notes from Home
So it is just 2 weeks since I brought Lily home but it seems like she has been a member of the family for months. It has been an incredibly easy adjustment for Lily and for Bob and Debbie. From the first morning when she escaped from the bedroom as I was leaving to get their breakfast and she literally ran over Bob in the hallway they have been friends and playmates. Even though he is twice her size she thinks that she is the boss and Bob indulges her. Debbie discourages Lily from trying to engage her in Play with a few hisses but she doesn't mind being close to her at times and once I even caught Debbie licking Lily on top of her head. Not bad! Anyway Lily is a sweetheart and very at ease and self confident. She loves watching the birds and the chipmunks at the bird feeders. She is very playful and busy and curious and fun!

MISHKA
Just got here. Really? Another new place? Seriously humans, can you love me and keep me forever? Foster mom says that I will be able to stay in my next home forever with my very own people. She's just getting to know me, but she has heard that I like other kitties and woofers, too. I'm a little shy about being picked up, but pet me on my body, and I'm in heaven! More about me soon.

Notes from Home
Was holding off a bit on our updates on Mishka. Seeing progress! it has been slow to earn his trust, but Monday, April 13, Mishka let me know I was sleeping beyond my normal 5:35 AM wakeup time- he did not like that a bit. He knows he gets a teaspoon of Fancy Feast in the morning and he was not wanting to wait a minute longer. In the evening I decided to try brushing him to see how far I would get without him trying to swat at me or bite- he amazingly let me brush him including his tail. He did not want me to stop!

He is still trying wholeheartedly to make friends with Gidgette, the other feline. He needs to learn some manners when it comes to playing. He can be a bully. With the dogs he seems fine.

Very talkative. Loves company, including children over 5. He also is more Christina's companion than Carroll's. But she spends the majority of the time giving Mishka the strokes he so deserves.

Sept 20,2015
Mishka has stolen our hearts- including the other fur children here. He is a talker during the night- I guess he thinks we will get up and give him a treat. ( Smiley face). He is doing quite well and has adjusted to his freedom beyond the cage. He will allow Christina to pick him up ans set him on her lap. If she is laying on the floor he will lay on her stomach and knned her her. Aww so cute a rewarding. He likes to cuddle and sleep in Carroll's chair, as well as on our pillows.

He met his new veternarian last week for his annual checkup and shots- Dr. Moseley at the Hope Animal Clinic- they get along nicely. We have been taking him there for nail trims. We also take our other fur children here also and am very pleased with the care, caring and devotion of this practice.

Mishka weighed in at slightly over 14 pounds. The vet looked him over well and assessed that he is in wonderful health, including his gums. Dr Mosely also noted how attentive Mishka is and that he is more dog-like than cat!!!

We so enjoy Mishka.

LILY BELLE
I'm here with my brother Frankie and my parents as well, all four of us grew up in the same household. I'm very easy going and could go home with either Frankie or Tommy! I love them all, actually I love just about everyone!
Notes from Home
We have just discovered that Lily Belle likes to have her belly rubbed. She has taken over the wing back chair in the living room, the sofa in the family room and she sleeps between us on our pillows at night. She also likes the leather chair, but her absolute favorite place is Sherm's lap. She is a treasure and a real delight to us. I will try to upload a picture, but may have to resort to emailing you a picture instead.

She and Biskers do not fight, which is great. Biskers wants to be friends, but Lily Belle ignores him.

We met some of the center's volunteers at the DC cat show and showed our support by purchasing a few items. We understand that Tommy and Frankie were adopted. I do not think you are charging enough for the cozies. The cozies are fabulous.
