Notes from Home

Serita finally arrived at her forever home after a very long weekend of riding in a car. Being shy and unfamiliar with her new surroundings, she immediately dove for cover under my bed. She would only come out during the night when everyone was asleep and the house was quiet. After several days she started venturing out when I was moving around in the room. Thereafter, she would sleep at night on the foot of my bed. Her vet chase I up seemed to be a turning point for her. Definately did not want to get back in the carrier for another car ride. Arriving back home after the vet to the same place must have convinced her that it was her forever home and it wasn't bad after all. She became more open and willing to interact. She now sleeps curled up against my legs. I heard her purr for the first time after two weeks. She is more reserved than Mr. PickLes, preferring to be ladylike! She is affectionate, giving head bumps and rub arounds. We love her! Thanks to all who participated in getting her to her forever home!!! At week three Serita had another breakthrough. Instead of hiding under the bed, she took a nap in one of the kitty beds. She also jumps up on my Grandson's bed while I am reading him a bedtime story and cuddles up.
One month anniversary! Serita is coming out of her shell more with each passing day. She is vocal and calls to me to come and pet her. She gives lots of rub arounds. Hasn't shown any interest in playing with their toys, but seems to be content just being near me. Picking her up is off limits. Pet me and adore me is just fine. She has napped in one of the kitty beds and sat in the cat sized basket that I lined with the little kitty blankets to cushion it. She prefers to sit in Tristan's window and watch the kids playing in the yard and the birds flitting around the elm tree and pasture fences. I am hoping she will soon feel comfortable enough to let me cuddle her.

Another break through! Serita actually played with a toy! Ok, so it was only half-hearted, but at least she batted at a toy. I have a feeling she might like to follow some yarn dragged along the floor. Have to try it out.
Here it is Sept. 1st. The kids are back in school, including the youngest. I now have approx 3 hrs with no Grandkids to chase after. When the days are cool enough, the dogs all get shooed outside. That's when I can leave the door at the top of the stairs open to give the cats free run of the house. Serita is still cautious and usually only ventures to the bottom of the stairs. With the door open, she can see the front yard. She has ventured to the living room a few times. I h. ad been looking for a laser light to play with the cats. Today I found one. Serita thinks it's really neat. She has also started .laying across my lap when I am putting my Grandson to bed at night. She is still more reserved than Mr. Pickles but is making steady progress.

It's Serita's 6 month anniversary! She is very vocal, meowing for me to come upstairs to see her. She was not as brave as Pickles when it came to venturing downstairs. Her foster reported that she only ate after dark. Well, about a week ago was the first time I actually witnessed her eating. As soon as she heard me approaching her feeding area she immediately stopped eating A! I know she has been getting enough to eat because she now weighs 17 lbs! Time to double her play time. She loves chasing a laser light. It will be interesting to see how she reacts to the Christmas tree in the house. We just put it up today. Serita loves to have the base of her tail scratched. She gives me love nibbles when I scratch her. She also has abondoned her kitty bed for my bed. Serita is a really sweet addition to our family. She and Pickles get along together well. They often snooze near each other, although not touching. Hoping to get her slimmed down. I am considering changing their food formula to help her lose weight.

Here we are with Serita's first anniversary just around the corner. She had a good check up with the vet except for one issue, her weight. She is 18 lbs. the vet says she is very shy and sensitive. It was ten months after adoption before I ever saw her eating. When she noticed me watching her, she hid under the bed. Because of this behavior it is very hard to determine just how much she is eating. She is also very secretive about using the litter box. Serita is very vocal, talking to me or letting me know she wants my company. Mostly she is content to be near someone, not necessarily touching.

Serita had her annual check up with her Dr. She has lost a little weight but not enough for Her Dr. To cancel her concerns that she might become diabetic. Her food has been changed and only set out at certain times so she does not get too much at one time. Serita is becoming more socialized, not hiding under the bed as much. Like Pickles, she has her own kitty bed but prefers to sleep on mom's bed. She likes to cuddle up to my legs. The laser light continues to be her favorite toy. Her coat and skin are in much better condition. The flakiness is gone and she has stopped chewing on herself. Serita is a lot more talkative than pickles.

Serifs continues to be more talkative than Pickles. She still runs for cover when the door at the top of the stairs opens. As soon as she hears my voice she comes out of hiding. The laser light no longer holds her attention. She is actively using a scratching post even when she is being watched. She also loves batting at my Christmas cactus. Keep finding pieces of it on the floor. Fortunately she shows no interest in eating the plant. She is still very secretive about using the litter box or eating when I am present. Once in a great while she will use the litter box in my presence. Her coat and skin have shown no further sign of the flakiness. Still trying to get her weight down. Switched their food to a lower calorie formula in the Blue Buffalo product line. Also found a different litter that is low in the dust department.

2018 brought great changes. After three noisy Grandsons and 3 noisy dogs it was a great relief to have an empty nest. Serita has become much less secretive when it comes to eating and using the litter box. She is so relaxed now and stays close to Mom but will not yet curl up in my lap as Pickles does. She loves to stretch out on the living room rug and snooze in a patch of sunlight. Serita sneaks off with P’s catnip mouse and plays with it, rolling around on the floor while clutching it in her paws. Her weight is much healthier having lost a couple of lbs. she now easily jumps up on my bed when she wants to do some serious sleep time. Her check up went well. Serita has no interest in looking out windows as does Pickles. She is quite content to be a full time indoor kitty.
We just had a major breakthrough in Serita’s trust issues. She has always been secretive when it comes to eating. She would always wait until after dark when the house was quiet and everyone was asleep. Tonite while cleaning up the kitchen after dinner I gave the cats a fresh bowl of water and refilled both of their food bowls. To my surprise and delight bot Serita and Pickles started eating together! It was 4+ years coming but at last she feels safe in her “forever” home.

TWINKIE
Little bitty gal, I did little but purr when I got here, and am looking forward to lots of good things! I'm nervous at first and learning about playing, I like to lap sit for a short time, but I'm a bit inexperienced with lots of attention, so while I like it, you have to show me! I LOVE to play and that crinkle tunnel? Well that's the BOMB!!!! I think I'd love someone to play with, any cute young men out there?

Teqa continues to be an absolute sweetheart. She talks up a storm, although I continue to tell her that my "siamese" is not very good. Usually she just wants to be picked up and cuddles. All you have to do is touch the little cutie and she instantly purrs. Just love her to pieces!

Teqa continues to be a perfect kitty! She and Sam are now best buds and they can usually be found curled up on the bed together, which is the only time she slows down enough for me to get a picture. We have dubbed her "the princess" as she is just so darn adorable!

Princess T continues to be a wonderful kitty. Possibly the sweetest cat I've ever owned. Hoping for many more years with her!

ATLAS
I don't feel very well right now so foster mom will have to update you later when I feel better. But I do love a good cuddle.

Notes from Home
Atlas is a sweet little baby. He loves to yell and make sure everyone at home knows he's around. He's a robust character that loves to guard the bathroom when Mommy is in there, and get head scratches in return for keeping everybody safe! He's now gotten an older sister, Lilly, who is a little bossy, and runs the show, but when she's asleep, Atlas loves to sneak in and give her a head, face and ear bath. She's not sure what to think of it quite yet. I don't think her first family was right for a siamese girl; and Atlas is completely in love with her. She's 6-7 pounds, and he's a very sturdy man at 11! He's always loving and smiling. Happy happy kitty.

Atlas is doing wonderfully! He is the happiest little man I've ever met. Atlas showed severe anxiety and frantic fear for a long time, and we had him on medication for awhile, but he is now medication-free, and delightfully quirky. He's very attached to me, but is a love bug to anyone what wants to give him a "hand pillow" to rest his sweet head on! We rescued a (now) 5 year old Snowshoe lady friend for him, named Lilly. She's tiny, but 100% sass. Atlas tries very hard to groom her and cuddle her, but she's not quite ready for that. Atlas went to the vet (8/14) and they said he was a big, perfect, adorable healthy kitty!! His teeth look great, muscle tone is good on his hips, he's never bitten or scratched anyone at all, ever. He isn't the wisest owl, but that means is is the most HAPPY cat I've ever seen. He likes to have you hold his hand(s), and hold your hands back. He loves to be petted everywhere, and never gets over stimulated from being loved. He's a silly boy- very quirky and odd, and fits with our family perfectly. Let me send you some photos of his cuteness for you to "AWWWW" over. We love him so much! He is always smiling. He loves songs that are sung in his honor, and demands to be sung to multiple times a day. Thank you for allowing us to be his parents.

Notes from Home
Hello and Seasons Greetings! Ferdinand (fka Ricky) just had our 1 year anniversary together and he also just had his 2nd annual checkup. Clean bill of health. His allergies are under control although his food sensitivities age quite serious. This boy must be restricted to rabbit and rabbit only but as long as we are careful (that means no food left unattended at any time - he is quite the cat burglar!) he is fine. No more ear infections. Chin acne is cured. His coat is absolutely glorious!

He's grown a few inches in length and height and is no longer my "micro-cat". We think he actually may have been under a year when adopted. I didn't see it but the vet and all my family keep telling me he grew.

His naughty kitten biting and attacking behavior has also improved dramatically. He now catches himself and has finally learned to nuzzle hands instead of bite them. I'm sure some of that is maturity but it's also a lot of hard work on our part. He also finally learned to enjoy soft surfaces like the couch and bed. I swear though if you try and take away his Scratch and Snuggle he will be very upset! It's still his favorite place to sleep. He also likes the dog bed, much to the dismay of Snoopy! Tigger has quietly stepped down from his throne and let Ferdinand be the dominant one although he still outweighs him by 4 lbs and will lay him out flat when he deserves it. There is no aggression between them, only nuisance kitten behavior that 15 year old Tigger would rather not partake in. Haha!

Please enjoy some photo updates. He is a toy killer!

8/14/2018

Happy Summer from Ferdinand. It's been a while since I posted an update. Ferdi is still in great health. No more visits to the veterinary dermatology specialist. He is all good on his rabbit diet and we've even been able to transition him from Rx food to Nature's Variety Instinct Límited Ingredient Rabbit cat food. Still has to be restricted to this novel protein but he loves it and it is worth the expense as his coat is really something. He's as soft as a chinchilla and his ear, skin and GI issues are call gone. He still has some behavioral issues with biting and general naughtiness but he's FULL of personality and so dang cute and sweet at times, he just can get away with it. Still a work in progress but gradually improving and maturing. Hope you enjoy the photos. He is really adorable.

JASMINE
I was found in a feral colony in the wilds of Philadelphia! Not feral - not at all. I was a bit shy, and still need a bit of time to adjust, but I have become a bold and feistly little girl! I cry to get out of my playpen to play. I destroy my toys! I play with the big cats! I run through the tunnels and play with the ball chase toys! I use the cat trees and scratchers! And best of all, the big cats taught me how to climb the baby gates, so foster mom has to retrieve me from the hallway where I showed her how fast I can run. She says I'm too little to run through the house, and now uses two baby gates to keep me in the office with her. But don't worry, that is a minor obstical for me. I was too little to spay at my vet visit last week, but will be going in to thave that detail taken care of in another week or so. In the meantime, I am learning how to be a proper playful kitten. I do still like to be held, and purr, and foster mom says I am a sweet little girl.

Notes from Home
I just re-sent the last update because I did not know if it was sent before since it still appeared on this screen. So, the latest on Miss Jasmine after a year is as follows: Jasmine is the original Wild Child. She is very much the boss kitty between the females, and a crazy, no limits clown, who keeps us laughing all the time with her antics. She takes the toys away from the others because everything is hers. She makes Mei Ling hiss and growl at her because she comes at her hard, yet Ming doesn't have the same reaction since he plays as hard as she does. Her litter box habits are impeccable. She never seems to get enough food even though they get plenty here, but it you open the refrigerator, she will be right there trying to check out if there will be more for her, and constantly pushes the others out of her way even when having her own separate bowl. She will speak when you look at her too long and if you talk to her using the same squeaky voice. I don't know what kind of mix she is, but she has the softest, fluffiest fur, especially her tail, so unlike the sleek fur on her Siamese brother and sister. My 3 kitties have such different, distinct personalities that you cannot help but to love every bit of them. Jasmine has found her forever home.

SASHA
Love to have a good time? Like a little spice in your life? Live for just a tiny bit of the unexpected? Maybe I'm your gal. I'm a fun loving, mischievous smarty pant type female who loves to goof but also loves deep intelligent conversations about world affairs. But it's gotta be just me, cuz I don't want to share with the lesser felines around!

Greetings from Sasha!

Today is my 2 week birthday with Phyllis and Doug! To start our day, I had my first trip to my new vet, Mebane Pet Clinic. Dr E was very nice to me and I even ate treats when she was done. My gums still have a little redness but all else is good. I weigh in at 9 pounds and she said that is the ideal weight for me. That temperature thing made me a bit upset but they loved me up after the exam and I was calm after. We are continuing the Advantage medicine monthly as you had started. After we left the vet, Mom took me for another short trip and I realized when we stopped I was in a familiar place again and this truly was my home and I am not going anywhere else. I am very happy here and they certainly spoil me. Thank you for finding my new home!

Sasha
(Phyllis and Doug too)

Sasha continues to be a delightful loving and playful cat. We are so pleased that she has settled right in to her own routine. We are both working from home now and she takes turns sitting with us and helping the printer print documents .

We had to change her food and she has not had any problems at all in digestion. She is neat, very attentive to her cleanliness and very affectionate. I can even sneak in a quick hug when I get home.

Greetings from Sasha !

I have been with my parents and forever home for 6 months now. We have had our ups and downs. Let me explain... Whe I came to them I was on a food that was making me unhappy. They tried several other foods and I did not like them. I lost a pound or two and we ended up at the Vet. After beating up several vet techs and having to be sedated... We figured out I was still healthy but dehydrated. After a few days of still not eating.... Mom had a thought and started me on what I probably was used to before I was found! Thank you Mom for getting me groceries that I love! I am now eating and have no allergies.. No weight issues... Love water and am healthy as can be. I love my forever home! We cuddle a lot and she keeps me warm and safe!

Hello from Sasha!

I have been with my loving parents for a year now! How time flies.

I am a happy healthy girl. I had some issues with allergies a while back and that has all resolved. The vet says I am the perfect weight and healthy.

I just learned how to talk to my Mom and Dad! My little squeak makes them very happy. Can you imagine a Siamese that is quiet?

Mom and Dad bought this cool tower , so I can chase the birds in the window.

Hello to you all and thank you for helping me get here to my forever home!

Sasha

Hello from Sasha!

I have now been at my forever home for 2 years. Life is great with my parents. They take me for mani pedis once a month, treats while mom works from home, and snuggles when go to bed.

I am a very finicky water and mom and dad get a variety of foods for me to pick from. I still do not like canned food but that is ok.

The birds keep me busy watching them in the livi,g room window. Then dad throws my favorite balls to Chase!

Thank you for finding my parents!

Yesterday our beloved Sasha crossed over the rainbow Bridge. Her cancer spread very quickly and we were with her until the end. She was as sweet and loving as she could be. We looked over her notes from the adoption today and realized that the folks who watched over her before we were lucky enough to adopt got to know her very well.

Thank you for allowing us to love this little petite Siamese! She gave alot of love.

Hopefully we will be i contact after the pain is gone.

RUFUS
Came back into rescue through no fault of my own, so here I am. I lived with another cat. No young and rowdy dogs, and a quieter home would suit me best. I went in to the vet for my senior wellness check - and I am in great shape in all that important stuff like kidney function. I came to rescue as a kitten so we are pretty certain of my age. I am a sweet, sweet boy. Love the cat tree here, and love attention! My purr works great. I eat both canned and dry, and am very good with my litter box. Check out my additional pictures to see what I looked like as a kitten. Better movies coming of me soon - foster mom says it is just very dark and dreary here.

Just arrived at foster Meowmy's house. I am on the tail end of an Upper Respiratory infection so still have some runny eyes.

After a few more days of R&R along with meds, I should be all ready for you to start inquiring on me. new pictures will be up too once I am looking my best.

Lily is doing great and all her health problems went away. She is growing and turned into a real seal point. Our other cat Boris loves her and they are great pals. She was a real scairdy cat but has gained confidence and is showing more affection every day. She talks a lot and loves to pounce on toys then carry them away. I will attach a few pictures. Thanks again for my beautiful girl.
Liza.
