COCHETA
Not too sure if you're going to be nice or nasty, so I need a really nice person. If you're consistently nice, I will be too, but you're going to have to convince me you're not one of those hot and cold people who loses their patience. I'm taking it slow and easy and learning step by step; I will get along fine in a multicat household, or you could take me one on one and we could work through our issues together. Just give me a chance.

Notes from Home
Reading the intake notes were like a therapy session! I can't believe how far I've come or that it has been 8 years! Upon arrival, my people decided that "Cocheta" wasn't working for us, so, despite being highly creative people, they re-named me Kitty. Yes, "Kitty", but in recalling all the cats waiting to be adopted, I decided that wasn't the worst thing that could happen to me. It literally took me a few years to get settled in (I admit, I really was a bit of a project cat). Based on my behavior, my people decided that I originally lived with dog people, and mean dog people at that. Boy do I hate the sound of whistling, and I couldn't believe my new people were encouraging me to get on the sofa! I rewarded them with purring, although sometimes it was just too much, so I'd have to bite them a little to let them know I needed my personal space back. There were some dark days, too, like when I got addicted to treats, and aggressively demanded them. I also put on some weight, so I got a bit of a lecture at the vet's office. I also got a housemate, Sox, that my people let in from outside. I liked it much better when they thought she had feline leukemia and kept her locked upstairs, but another test a year later showed that she wasn't sick at all. We've been sharing the house for almost 6 years, and we still can't get along. If only she would admit that I am the alpha cat, everything would be fine.
Anyway, after a few years, the people brought home a rather curious package. It sounded like me, but it looked a little odd. I did a really good job of protecting it. Somehow, I knew when it was crying whether it just wanted attention or if something was wrong. When it was hungry, I went to the people and yelled at them to do something. I even slept by its crib. I must have done a really good job, because not long after, they brought another one home. It took some time and practice, but I finally got them to master front-to-back petting, and now that the older one is in kindergarten, she really knows how to rub and scratch my ears and neck. I'm very careful not to bite her, even when she doesn't quite pet me the way I like. I let her know I like her, by coming when she calls me, and sleeping on her pillow. The younger one is nice, too. He's 4, and when I ask for things, he always asks me what I want (in a nice way, of course).
Overall, I am a pretty happy cat, but I still get in trouble with the vet for my weight. I don't eat junk food anymore, just my Chicken Soup brand dry food, but I've always been a little heavy, from when I first got here and liked to stress eat. My people make sure I stay healthy, and they don't talk too much about my weight, mostly because I'm really nice with the kids, and whenever anyone comes to visit, I am the very first one to welcome them to our house. The only thing I've never really overcome is this picking up thing. I let one of my people (my "mom") pick me up, but we try not to make a habit of it, and I still swing around and give her a hard stare when she puts me down, even if I liked being held just a little bit. The one thing I have discovered JUST THIS YEAR is laps. Who knew how warm and snuggly it was on laps?! Now I can't get enough!
Well, that's all for now. I've made sure the people put some food outside for the stray cats (I get to lick out the cans, yum!), and now it's time for my nap. But I'm glad I had a few minutes to let you know how much I appreciated getting a second chance, and how my life has been these last few years.

GUINESS
Hi, I am a little skittish but watch my brother to see what he does and then I follow him. I think this is a good place for now but want a home to call my own. In my young life I have had at least four homes and now I am ready to have a home that is forever. I use the litter box and I eat ALL of my food. I love my brother and we eat, play, and sleep together. A trip home that is no more than a one day transport would be our ideal. Does any of this sound like a cat you could love>? Then click on ask about me and do it.

Notes from Home
A quick follow up on Dingle VA9896 and Guinness VA9895.
These two boys, we collectively call them "the twins" have been the greatest joy to us. They are growing like weeds, eating like horses, and acting like rambunctious teenagers. The bonding process with our other feline kids is complete. With their BIG big brother HenryO, they have become an inseparable trio. Old man Freckles accepted them right away and they are working hard to get Tria ,the Matriarch, on their side.
As they mature, Guinness has become the real lover with Dingle more reserved. The twins are always together and the decision not to separate them was spot on. Both are as smart as can be. They have added life to our family and was a great decision to adopt them.
All of this would not have been possible without the great staff and volunteers at VA Siamese Cat Rescue Center. Thanks again to all of you.

SAMSON
An outgoing friendly guy, I was a stray for some time and am now ready to call your home my home! I'd do better with a busier household over a quieter one, older kids would be great, and if anyone was interested in walking their cat like you would a dog, I might well be a candidate!

Notes from Home
Just figured I'd post an update on Samson:
Initially Samson was very laid back, well behaved, and loved to be pet. When I took him to the vet he got very stressed out and nervous(I could barely get him in and out of the carrier). The vet warned me that one of his teeth may need to be pulled and that I should bring him in for a cleaning in a month or so so that they can reassess. They also warned me that he shows some signs of arthritis in his back legs and that I should give him Cosequin. Lastly she warned me that he has signs of a heart murmur and gave me a specialists number.
I haven't followed up on the specialist yet, it sounds more expensive than I'm prepared to deal with. Also, I've read that stress can throw off those tests and Samson was beyond stressed at the vet.
After bringing him back it took him awhile to warm back up to us. After another week we began to integrate him with Stella. She hissed at him a little at first, but that has stopped. Stella also tended to follow Samson around which made him nervous, so we'd still give him some time alone.
Now we leave them both out together and they seem to be fine. They don't play much or anything, but they are fine around each other and they always eat together. Just today I found both of them sleeping on our bed near each other.
Samson has been getting used to the place and is back to being really cuddly despite being a bit nervous when we are walking around near him. He LOVES to eat and yowls in the morning in anticipation of me filling his bowl.
Our only real problem(aside from the vet ones) is that he sometimes gets mean towards me(and more frequently my finacee). He'll be fine and then all of a sudden start biting at you. Also he sometime will follow her and bite at her heels. Still, I think it's starting to pass. He's just very slow at getting used to things.
Oh, also its probably worth mentioning that he hasn't tried to run toward the front door at all! I know that was an initial concern with him.
UPDATE 10/3/14:
Everything has been going great with Samson. He's actually curled up next to me on the couch right now! I think he's calmed down a lot now that he's had time to adjust. He doesn't really show any of the mean behavior anymore. He does sometimes get "overstimulated" when petting him but that's all. Also he can still be pretty skittish if you approach him standing up, but he's getting better. He loves cuddling whenever me or Brittany are laying on the couch or in bed. He also loves hanging out in my "man cave"/video game room.Oh and he and Stella get along pretty well now. They chase each other around and play all the time now. Things are going great!

Notes from Home
I wish we had good news. It's been a roller coaster for sure.
Since Monday, Bailey had not eaten. We brought him to the vet this afternoon, and she confirmed that the earlier "bounce" was due to the residual Prednisone in his system, and not as a result of infection that was getting under control.
As Bailey had Lymphoma, we decided that euthanasia was the preferred option. It was not an easy choice by any means. The vet and her assistant were very good, and Bailey was so lethargic to start with, he didn't resist. His passing was swift and painless. His remains are being cremated.
Please continue doing your wonderful work. Bailey has been a blessing to us.
hugs,
John and Marge

Notes from Home
Now for an Ajax story. Ajax is totally amazing. Very very intelligent, and possibly the most loving cat I have ever known. And he is also the family athlete. No place is safe, no matter how high! He can jump from the bed to the top of the dresser across the 'aisle' in the bedroom; he can jump onto the shelves of my hutch ( shudder) and visit my grandmother's china; the washing machine is no effort at all, and now he is trying to figure out how to get from there to the pantry shelves, if only there was room to land there! He sits up on the washer and cries for me in his tiny little voice to come pick him up and give him a 'tour' of the pantry shelves; you can just see those little wheels in his head turning as he tries to see a good place to land up there... I have learned to keep those shelves full at the edges in hopes that he is too discouraged to try jumping up, but I have no doubt that one of these days I will find him up there, calling me to come see what a wonderful thing he did!!!

Notes from Home
So, here is my Apollo story for today. He has turned out to be quite a character; very lovable and entertaining. For those of you that don't know my Apollo, he is a lonnnngggg kitty. At about 15 pounds, he is slim and muscular, not fat. And I am a vertically challenged woman, about 5'2"... And Apollo has adopted me. He follows me absolutely everywhere, kitchen ( of course, there might be food there... ), den, bedroom, bathroom.. ( He hasn;t yet figured out that the seat could be up and be very dangerous for athletic kitties.. ) But anyhow. Now that he has chosen me as his adopted human, he wants to sleep with me, which is very nice; loving and cuddly, warm in the chilly weather. We have a California King size bed, my husband is tall and likes his space. Up til now , that has been plenty of room, even with a cat in the bed. (or two) Now, however, things are getting just a bit tight. Apollo, you see, likes to lie between us and stretch out his full length ACROSS the bed. And he then pushes with his little toes all night. And he is strong! So by morning, both of us are trying to hang on the our respective edges of the bed!!! Luckily, we love him very much, and prefer to have him there anyhow . :) A house without cats is not a home!!
