Update:
I told you that I was a handsome hunk. There is absolutely nothing not to like about me.

I got one of those darn shelter colds. It hasn't stopped me from loving or eating. I just don't look my debonair best so I am declining a picture portfolio at the moment. Foster mom keeps telling me what a sweetheart I am. HRRUMPH! I am a handsome hunk. Or at least I will be now that I am being treated the way I should be. Well, some caviar would be nice, but I am working on the room service help. So if you are attracted by the scruffy, ungroomed look, just forget it. I am not going to be that way for long.

Notes from Home
(July 23 2011) Melvin (formerly Orie) is loving his new digs. Just this morning, he shared a family lazy fest in the master bedroom with his his new family dad, both kids (5yr and 18mo) and our Tortitudeness, Tina. Three humans and two cats stretched out on a queen bed; is there a better way to spend a saturday morning?!

During the usual day he shares the lowest level of a split level home with Tina. When the family is home from errands, school and work, he and Tina have the run of the rest of the house. The cats have lots of window access, several aquariums to watch and tons of loose kid and kitty toys to bat around in the meantime. There are bird feeders, a vegetable garden and other wildlife attractions within easy view of the windows for the cats to enjoy. Coming soon: home engineered cat trees WITH window access.

Melvin will sprawl out anywhere, on any surface. He has a preference for the master bed when available, but seems equally interested in laminate, linoleum, carpet and couch.

Over a month into his new home, Melvin is living large and in charge. He and Tina are regularly fun-sparring or snuggling around the house. He's been very handy during nail trimming - more patient than Tina! He really enjoys attacking feet when we're trying to sleep, so he's been banned from bedrooms during naps, but he's okay with it.

He's a natural model and he's got some of the funniest poses; leaving feet dangling randomly while half on and off steps, couchbacks, chairs, etc. It's quite a pleasure watching him lounge around.

He's been thankful for the birdfeeders and their regular visitors. He and Tina keep a sharp eye on squirrels, titmice and morning doves when they make their rounds.

Best of all, both of the children (5yr/18months) have a very soft touch and the five year old even fails to notice Melvin in bed during story time, resulting in Melvin having some (on the) bed time in the evening. Lots of soft petting and snooze spots for a very deserving cat and two lovable kids. A win win for all!

TEDDY
Hi, I'm Teddy. If I was a human my career would be mountain climbing because I love to scale high places. I am a big hunky boy (not fat) so there is plenty of me to love. I like other kitties and play well and am beginning to love toys. I'm a great lap kitty, too. Doggies are ok if I have time to get used to them. I have a very laid back personality.
Teddy.

Notes from Home
Teddy has been nicknamed Spaz due to his tendancies to bolt and run around the whole apartment on a whim. He definitely would not have been a good pick for a family with children (maybe on visits, but not full time). I took him to meet my parents about 4 and a half miles away and he did pretty well, he was a little scared, but I reassured him constantly and he was fine. I hope to get him comfortable with travelling soon. He's a pain from time to time - very very clingy, but thats OK, he's my buddy.
I'm glad I can give him a comfortable life as the "co-king of the castle".

As you can see, he has plenty of places to climb, but he and I have arguments about what belongs to whom... still a work in progress. He's always happy to see me, or he has a plot to kill me when I get home as he's always tangling himself in my feet, especially when I'm carrying stuff. I know this may sound harsh, but its a definite term of endearment - he's a jerk, but he's my jerk :D
My parents think he's perfect for me because of it.

MILO
I can purr faster than a speeding bullet! How's that for an introduction! My history is that I adore my people, I could sit in a lap furever and ever, I like to watch the squirrels and birds outside, and I can out talk just about anyone if you want me to. Oh, and I MUST sleep with my owner! Nothing less is acceptable!

Notes from Home
We’ve approached the one month birthday of having Milo (FKA Tazor) in our lives and can’t believe how well he is doing. He is so calm and content and his demeanor is contagious. He seems to be able to slow us down and remind us to take a moment to relax-- even in this busy, bustling city that Milo is now calling home.
Not only does he like to cuddle up with us, he has taken an immediate liking to Mocha, his much larger canine sister. He often tries to share her bed, her food, and her attention! Lucky Mocha doesn’t mind and I believe in the months to follow we will be seeing a lot more of Mocha and Milo joined at the hip!
Despite the large collection of cat toys we accumulated before and after adopting Milo, there wasn’t really any toy that he was truly interested in past a sniff and a bat or two. Of course, this was until he found a little black bobby pin on the floor. He is hooked! The other thing he can’t get enough of? Belly rubs and a good scratch behind the ear. He adores being petted, cuddled and kissed; and of course, we are happy to oblige.
Milo has now had two visits to the vet: the initial check up, which told us that his kidney values were higher than normal, and a second visit to re-check his blood after his first round of medicine. Unfortunately this second blood work-up has confirmed that he has Kidney Disease. We have been told this can be managed with a prescription diet and a close watch on his water intake. Although concerned, we hope that he will continue to be the sweet, gentle natured cuddle-bug we know and love for many years to come.
Hope you enjoy the pictures of Milo in his new home!

August 28, 2011

Milo has survived his first "hurricane" here in Brooklyn, safe and sound with his family. He is doing so well here. He spends his days playing with his toys with increasing interest, and of course, playing with his best friend, Mocha. (follow this link to watch a short clip of them having a great time together! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSE-7wnVUF0). I believe that he deeply believes that anything Mocha can do he can do better. He loves to imitate her and instigate a good play session if at all possible. He is also intensely curious of all that is happening around him: the fridge being open, what is in our drawers, or who is at the door.

We are a very happy little family and can't thank all the members of SCRC enough for bringing Milo into our lives!

Please check out the new pictures we have added from home as well!

ANN
Hi there - sweet, cute and tiny little Ann greeting you from Hotel delShue. Got here just a few days ago and managed to come down with the shelter "yuck", but I'm still doing OK. Eating and drinking on my own I am just about as sweet as a flame girl can be. Very laid back, easy going and sweet, sweet, sweet. Haven't met any of the other cats yet, but sure would like to get in those closed doors in the penthouse of this hotel. I know there are other cats behind those "closed doors". When I first came in as a stray to the shelter, Mama Katie thought she's nameme Raggedy Ann, but now I am MUCH more beautiful, so she is just calling me ANN. I like my name and I like being named after a pretty little red haired girl. Since the flood here at the Hotel, accommodations have been a bit crowded, but I've been just as good as gold about my smaller than usual space. I'm just a VERY good girl. Be sure to ask about me if you like pretty flame girls with a laid back attitude. Purrs and headbutts, Ann.

Ann is doing great! She's slowly adjusting to our two existing cats. There is still a lot of integration to be done, but slow and steady wins the race! Thank you to everyone that has helped us get our lovely kitty.

MONKEY
I'm a gem says Aunt Siri! And she thought I couldn't possibly be older than 3 years old, given my body condition (purrfect), my teeth (purrfect), my size (petite) and my eyes (gorgeous). Yet turn in paperwork say my age is my age! Go figure, I'm in tip top shape, so if you're looking for a small gal, consider me! I'm named appropriately, my 6 pound frame is an expert at getting up high, down low, under and over things; I love to stick my nose in what you are doing and help in every which way I can! (dogs- unsure about the whole thing)

Notes from Home
After a month in her new home, Monkey is doing great. She loves to chase toys, run up and down the hallway and stairs, and sleep in the window. She seems to be a healthy, happy cat.

I love my fur-ever home!!! I am happier than ever. The past 4 years have been great. I have a brother Peter Pan and a sister MeMe. I still love playing with my toys and mice and I meow really loudly at them!! Of course I still squeak when my back is rubbed! A few years back I hurt my ear scratching it too hard, but my Meommy says it gives me character and I am still the most beautiful girl! I use to have diabetes but I have been totally healthy!! I am so thankful for the people that saved my before I came to this fur-ever home. If they had not cared so much, I would not even be alive!

CALYPSO
UPDATE - Photo shoot of me today with the new and much imporved face and attitude. I am now happy and healthy and want you to know that I am ready for my forever home. I am a BEAUTY and I love people. Purrs and Headbutts, Calypso

Update - ALL well and feeling ever so much better. I am such a happy and very sweet girl. It was a little hard ot show all that to my foster mama when I was so sick, but I am a NEW WOMAN now. More pictures and a video coming very soon, so be watching for pictures of the "new and very improved me".
Purrs and lots of headbutts, Calypso

Please forgive my appearance. I told Mama Katie it wasn't nice to take pictures of a lady when she is sick. Would you want to have someone taking glamour shots of you when you have a horrible cold? Well, not me either, but I did let her take a few. You see, my family left me at the shelter so they could travel, but they forgot what that might do to me. I got really sick with a re4ally bad shelter cold and am still trying to get well. Mama Katie and I cuddle, she feeds me and gives me fluids every day, but right now, I'm really struggling. I promise I'll make it because Mama Katie told me that ther is another family who will really want me and will love me forever and ever. Please cross your whiskers for me and say a prayer if you'd like. I could use it. I am a BEAUTIFUL seal girl who is very gentle, sweet and loving, even when I don't feel good. I just need someone who promises to keep me forever and love me like I will love YOU. Be sure to ask about me. I'd love to know that someone will be there for me when I am feeling like myself again. Purrs and headbutts, Calypso.

Notes from Home
Home sweet home! I'm becoming more and more comfortable in my home every day. The other 2 cats are fun playmates. I have moments where I like to run through the house like a roadrunner, and I end up starting a playful game of chase. While I don't have problems with the other cats, I'm having to get used to the new noises around this house and neighborhood. I have started to greet my new owners in bed in the morning and love to receive massages. Sometimes I do jump up on my owner's lap for a short time while she is watching TV. All of the felines in this house love playing with the wand toys, so when the toys come out we are all right there, waiting our turn to catch the flying object. My owner still is trying to decide whether to change my name.

SUNSHINE
Look, everybody, look at how beautiful I am!! I just figured that the reason I haven't been adopted yet is because no one has really looked at my pretty face and fashionable ear tufts! I am a happy cat, just like my name implies and I love to play with my friend, King Henry. I like to be petted and scratched under the ckin. I've gotten a bit plump since living the "high life" but it's just more of me to love. Please ask about me - I'll be your beauty forever!

Notes from Home
I am safely at my new home and I made myself comfortable very quickly. The existing cat and I had a few words with each other when we were introduced but made peace within a week. Every so often I need to remind her that she is in my personal space, but overall she is an ok housemate. I was also introduced to Calypso, the other new resident, and I welcomed her without a problem. She is a bit skittish but is a fun playmate. I am first to the food bowls when I hear the new food being poured into them. I know that my owner is starting to watch my food intake closely though.
So far, I haven't become itchy again. My favorite place to relax during the day is on a ledge looking out a basement window at the back yard patio, where I can be eye to eye with the numerous chipmunks, rabbits, and squirrels outside. My owner is still trying to decide on a new name for me. I guess she needs to analyze my personality first.

This cat is not suitable for children under the age of 5 (ie 5 and over is OK). This is typically a cat that is shy and a child might scare it, or one that has a potential to bite or play too hardNot with kids under 5
DUGAN
From day one, my foster mom could see that I am definitely a lap cat. I love to be near you and would sit in your lap as long as you will let me. I have a short tail, which makes me unique, don't you think? I am very solid and muscular, but melt like a marshmallow when you pet me and let me flex my big feet in your lap. I get along very well with other cats, both male and female, and enjoy chasing them throughout the house. I have a very mellow disposition, eat well, and use a scratching post faithfully.

I would be very happy to be your only companion, or a buddy to another, non aggressive cat.

Dugan has been in his forever home for a week now. He is doing really well. He is a super loving, happy little guy. He has been busy this week exploring the house. He loves all the big windows and running up and down the steps. He also loves snuggling with Mom. He has started playing with his toys in the last couple of days.

I would like to thank all the volunteers, and especially Sandra, for sharing this sweet little guy with me. We're looking forward to many happy years!

Julie

What happened? I was the prince of this castle! Mom even started calling me Prince Dugan. Then another cat came to live with us. Mom says she is my new sister. I'm learning to share and play with her. I love when we play chase! She lets me groom her a little. I think I would like to snuggle up with her, but she's not ready for that yet. I still love to snuggle with mom. I'm happy to have someone to run and play with and I am enjoying my forever home!

8/21/11 I am the luckiest boy in the world! I have been in my forever home for a year. I love it here. I love to snuggle with my mom and have tummy rubs. I love to play with Natalie and groom her. My two foster moms love me, too, so mom tries to keep them updated on my life. Mom says I'm a star at the vet. She calls to check on me, too. Mom says everyone loves me. I know I'm handsome--I like to look at myself in the mirror. I'm just a happy boy and I love my new life.
