2009 Calendar Contest

We're back...... This will be our ninth year, and of course we hope it's even better than the previous (Hummm, don't we always say that??).
So if you have ever looked at the cute cat calendars for sale in your local card shop and wished that a picture of your beloved feline friend could be on them, here's your chance to make them a star!
Dig out the new digital camera you got for Christmas and send them in today! Please keep in mind that this is a fundraising effort for Siamese Cat Rescue Center. All entry fees are used to offset the cost of printing the calendar.
Proceeds from the sale of the calendar are used to help fund the website. By participating in this project, you are helping to ensure that the Siamese Cat Rescue Center can continue with its mission. The calendar will be available for purchase at TheSiameseStore.com online retail store sometime in September, just in time for Christmas giving


Contest Rules/Criteria
NOTE: There are a couple of new rules this year so pay attention!

Contest Dates:
  • Entries will be accepted from March 4th through May 31st. Any entries received after that date (May 31st 11:59pm EST) will not be included in the selection process.
Entry Rules:
  • Previous winners can submit images every year as long as any Cat that they have previously submitted (not just the image) has NOT won, in ANY category, during the past 3 years (that would be since the 2006 calendar this time).

  • All entries must be made online, but entry fees can either be paid online or mailed in (we prefer online if possible)
  • Images can be uploaded directly online if they do not exceed 10MB is size. Photographs and images exceeding 10MB in size will need to be mailed on a CD.

  • This is a Rescued Siamese Cat Calendar, so photo(s) submitted should have a rescued Siamese in the photo (it's okay to have other critters in the photo with the Siamese). The rescued Siamese does not have to be a Siamese Rescue cat but must be a rescued Siamese/Siamese mix.
    (For the purposes of this contest, we define a "Rescued Siamese Cat" as a cat that was rescued from a Shelter, Rescue Organization, through Shelter and Rescue contact lists (for example, Siamlist), or off the streets (stray). Cats purchased (or obtained) from breeders, pet shops or individuals typically do not qualify unless they have gone through the "Rescue experience" to some extent. Contact us for a ruling if you believe you have such an exception.

  • Please do not include any humans in the photographs.

  • All cats must be portrayed in indoor situations, so please no pictures of your cat out in the backyard chasing mice . (We advocate indoor only homes).

  • Photographs and digital images are NOT returnable and become the property of Siamese Cat Rescue Center which reserves the right, without further consideration, to use all photographs selected for inclusion in the 2009 Calendar and in any other calendars, publications, media, and related promotions.

  • There is a $5.00 entry fee for each photo to help offset printing costs.

Categories:
    All entries will be considered for all categories, including the cover, persuant to the previously stated Rules, and the photo requirements below.
  • Cover Entries:
    There will be 1 entry selected for the Calendar cover. (See Photo Requirements below)
  • Cat of the Month Entries:
    There will be 12 entries selected in this category, one for each month. These are larger images used on each month's calendar page. (See Photo Requirements below)
  • Monthly Insert Entries:
    There will be 12 entries selected in this category, one for each month. These are the smaller images used on each month's calendar page. (See Photo Requirements below)


Photo Requirements
  • Digital images are HIGHLY recommended.

  • Images taken with a digital camera will be accepted for all categories. Digital photos must be taken with the highest size and/or resolution setting available on your camera. (You'll need at least a 4 Megapixel camera to get enough resolution for the larger picture)

  • The best way to see what type of pictures we're looking for is to look at the previous years calendar.

  • Entries for the 13 larger entries (Cover and Monthly) should be formatted so they can be used on a 13" wide by 9" high page, and the image is horizontally aligned (eg. wider than taller). They do NOT need to be 13" by 9" originally, but a minimum of 4" by 6" or preferably 5" by 7".

  • Entries for the 12 smaller entries should be formatted such that they can be used as a 2" wide by 4" high image. The image should be vertically aligned (eg. taller than wider). A standard 4" by 6" photo or digital image will work fine for this entry.

  • All submissions should be in focus (not fuzzy), and not exceptionally dark. The large images will need to be enlarged significantly and will show any imperfections. Please keep in mind that the quality of the photos used for this project will affect the overall quality of the calendar. We ask that only good quality photos be submitted.

  • Only photographs with a glossy finish will be accepted. (Matte finish reduces the quality of the scan).

  • If you will be submitting a copy of a photograph, please make sure the copy is made from a negative. Copies made from the self-service reproduction machines are of poorer quality.

  • If you submit digital images, do NOT make any modifications to the original picture. Images that have been modified may be disqualified, so always submit the original.

  • So that your photograph(s) can be properly identified and so that we have your contact information if needed, please mark the name of the cat(s) on the back of the photo and clearly print your name, e-mail address, complete mailing address and home phone number starting with the area code. (It's best to use a label as to not damage the picture. Do not use a ball point or felt tipped marker, as it will bleed through and damage the picture).


Selection Announcement:
  • All entries will be reviewed for technical and design merit. Those entries which are deemed acceptable for use will then be selected. Twelve large and twelve small winning pictures will be selected for each month and one picture will be selected for the calendar cover. Winners will be individually contacted in late August. Due to the number of entries, we are NOT able to contact those that did not win. So if you didn't hear from us in August, you didn't make the calendar this year, so you should starting taking new photos for next year.

Enter the name of the cat you are submitting (multiple entries for the same cat are OK) and a brief description (A description is required for each entry, but you can use the same description) of how your Siamese was rescued; this information will be included on the calendar if your photo is selected. Once you have completed this entry portion, you will be given instructions on how to submit the images, either by mail or by electronic upload if the image size does not exceed 10MB.
If you need to make more than ten entries, you'll be given an opportunity after you've submitted these.
