INDIGO
Just arrived, took a look around, and made myself at home. I'm social, playful, and even the vet thinks my personality is wonderful! I'm a little on the small side so will need to stay here several weeks to grow up.

TESSA
Hi there, I'm Tessa. Meowmy thought that would be a good name for me, as she said she bets I was a Contessa in my youger days. She thought she'd found me the perfect forever home, but that wasn't to be, so now we're looking again. I don't ever want to be outside or in a shelter ever again!

I love the company of another laid back kitty, and like to play with wand toys with her. I don't even mind the dog that lives here. Check out my pictures and copy and past this link to see my video.

Purrs,

Tessa
Notes from Home
It's been 10 days since we brought Tessa home, and what a great 10 days! After spending the first hour under our bed, she came out and jumped right into our hearts. Once she checked out all the "Molly smells" (our other cat) in our bedroom, bath, and closet, she made herself right at home and has been sleeping on our bed (and sometimes on our heads or chests) since that first night.

Tessa hasn't become a lap cat yet, but is a champion headbutter, purrer, leg-rubber, and loves to be petted and scratched. We're constantly amazed at how trusting she is after only being with us for such a short time. She has perfect manners re: her litterbox, and the cutest soft Siamese meow (a shock to us - our other Siamese is a loud-talker). Every day she talks to us more, and when we come home from work and go up to the bedroom, to be with her, she comes running from her favorite napping place (my winter-socks bin in our closet) when we call her.

On Tues., she passed her vet check with flying colors and was really on her best & cutest behavior there - she even ate the treats they gave her. I think Dr. Herr was going to be her new best friend until itwas time for the bloodwork :-(

Last night we did the big swap - Molly has been moved up to our bedroom area, and Tessa now has the run of the rest of the house. She was very tentative at first, as she was in our bedroom, but by this AM, she was racing all over, playing with all her toys, and exploring (and sniffing) everywhere. Again, great litterbox manners and no problem with eating. I slept on the family room couch in case she would be frightened, but she settled in nicely, and when she wan't playing, she slept curled up on my pillow, up against my head.

We're anxious for Tessa and Molly to meet, but as recommended, are taking our time with that. It's seems like a lengthy process, but we're both convinced that it makes sense and is worth the little bit of extra effort that it takes. We're looking forward to being able to spend our evenings together with both of our "girls" soon!

The entire adoption process has been wonderful, and we're so thankful for all the support we've received. From Jeanne (Tessa's foster mom) to Marjorie (our interviewer) to Siri (Siamese Rescue director) to the volunteer transport folks, everyone has been so great along the way, and also so responsive to my endless questions.

I'd recommend adoption to anyone who's considering it. We feel so fortunate to have been able to have Tessa join our family! (Pictures to come soon)

3/9/10 - Tessa here.... I'm all settled in now and can write my own messages now, thank you very much :-) Tomorrow it'll be 5 weeks since I took over this house, and I finally have these people trained!!

Now that I've gotten my mom & dad totally wrapped around my little paw, I've gone to work on my sister Molly. She was sure a grumpy old lady, and she growled and hissed at me every time she saw me. Now that I'm running the place, I pretty much ignore that, although I did give her a good thump twice (the old "shoot and scoot" routine) when I got tired of it and decided to let her know it.

I think I've begun to wear her down now- this weekend, she ate her breakfast with her back to me and didn't growl; now she doesn't hiss when she sees me, and this morning we had 2 big breakthroughs: she was playing with my catnip banana, and she even laid in my Millie-bed! I took these minor insults in stride... peace at any price! I figure that it's only a matter of time until she'll be eating out of my paw, too... She's big but old, I'm small but fast!

The parents finally found a canned food that is OK for me and that I totally LOVE... when I see my mom pick up the can, I feel like I've been rolling in catnip. I'm still scratching myself a little, but now that they have the allergies figured out, I'm lots less itchy. I could've told them if only they'd asked me...

All in all, life is wonderful here now that I have everyone trained! They sat my cat condo in front of their patio door so that I can enjoy the sunshine and watch the birds, and once afternoon comes, I take my daily nap in mom's sock bin in their closet. I've started following her all over the house (I'm no dummy, I know who feeds me) and since they gush all over me every time I do it, I've started talking to them more and more every day. They still don't seem to mind that when I'm lonely, I wake them up a couple times a night by rubbing all over their faces or laying on their chests - in fact, they seem to like it, strangely enough...

My mom keeps trying to get some good pictures of me to post on here, but so far, no luck. She hasn't figured out yet that every time she switches on the "red eye detector" on her camera, I make my eyes turn this crazy flourescent yellow color on purpose. One of these days I'll humor her and make her think she did it right so that I can post some pictures on here. In the meantime, I'll just keep torturing her!

Love to my Aunt Jeanne, too!
Tessa Leaman

Hi from Lancaster PA!
Since my public has been clamoring for pictures, I thought I'd add a few more for your viewing pleasure...

Still keeping the folks in my house in line, including that other cat (Molly). I've got them all pretty much where I want them (wrapped around my front paws), so no complaints on this end. Food's still real good, new toys keep appearing regularly, and the old girl (Molly) has finally stopped hissing at me. The folks got me a leash, and now I can sit out on the deck with them during the evenings. We like to watch for hummingbirds, but any type of bird will actually be fine with me. I'd sure like to get a closer look at those feeders!

I also like it when they turn on the TV - if only I could get them to watch only Animal Planet and nothing else! I'm glued to the TV when I see other animals on there...

Otherwise, nothing new here - enjoy the rest of the summer!
Love,
Tessa Leaman

PEACHES
Just arrived but I'm already settled in, using my cat pan and eating my food. I haven't told meowmy too much about myself yet, but I can't wait for my isolation time to be up so I can play with the two kittens here.

Well I'm out and about and having fun playing. I do poof up and hiss when I first meet a new cat (or kitten) but then I'm ok. Check out my video and new pictures!

PRINCESS EVE KNA PRINCE ADAM..
Well just goes to show you that even the best of us never know until you look under the covers - or under the tail as the case may be. I tried to tell them, I mean geez, I do nothing but talk, and if they had only listened - but NO, they gave me kisses and told me it would be alright and not to worry, but they sure weren't listening - I mean, how long can a guy go with the name of Princess, anyway! GEEZE!

Muir is really the owner of our house, he just allows us to stay here. All we have to do is feed and pet him...

CARAMEL
Foster Meowm says I should have been named "Very" because I'm Very Tortie, Very Wedgie, Very Vocal, Very Agile, Very Curious, and Very, Very Affectionate and Loving ! Oh yes, I'm also Very Unique - you'll never ever see another cat exactly like me because no two torties ever have the same markings - maybe similar but never exactly the same.

Although I'd prefer to be your one and only and not have to share my purrson with any other furry creatures, Foster Meowm does believe that I may be able to live with a very laidback cat who will give me my space and doesn't demand too much of of my purrson's attention. But beware that I can do a really fine job of hissing and growling when I feel it's necessary - mostly vocal but I'm not above a quick smack to reinforce my point !

Notes from Home
1-23-10 Carrie and I made friends during the 9 hour ride home from Hagerstown, MD to West Hartford, VA. I stopped often to let her out of her Meezer Express carrier to explore the car and ME. At one point, I took a nap and guess who crawled underneath my jacket to sleep on my chest? Ahhhhh. By the way, I changed her name from Caramel [VA6744] to Carrie. So far she likes her iso room, and we've done more napping together. She is altogether the most affectionate, and affection-seeking Siamese I've ever met. I love her!

2-7-10 For the first 10 days, we kept Carrie in the iso room and I slept there at night, so she could recover from all the stress of her long journey from Rock Creek Park in D.C. in October 2009 to West Hartford, CT in January 2010, and so I could really bond with her, so she would feel very solid when she emerged into the household. Actually, I also used our study as an iso room during the day so I could work on my computer with Carrie in the room with me. She does not like being left alone.
Rich visited and Carrie fell in love with my husband! I was worried she'd consider him a primary, because she liked him so much, but as it turned out, her best fur-friend is me, after all. I'm the one who feeds her and pets her and talks to her and plays with her. And Rich is the one who mostly feeds Moet and she bonds with him when our daughter is away, which is almost all the time now, since she's in college.
Next, we put Moet in the iso room for three days and nights so Carrie could inspect the rest of her new home. What a busy cat! She explored every nook and cranny, without getting into any trouble, and discovered that the main windows of our house all face south: a house designed for cat sunbathing. She also discovered all the heating outlets, and I put soft bedding in front of each for her comfort. This IS Connecticut and it's COLD at night, and we turn down the heat, so her only warm alternative is in bed with us. She wriggles her way under the covers or sleeps on top.
On Saturday, February 6, we opened all the doors so Carrie and Moet could meet. Carrie is very curious about Moet, but not vice versa. Moet is old, being treated for IBD with chemo, which I think makes her tired, and mostly sits and naps. So the momentous meeting occurred in the living room, where Moet had settled into a comfy place on the floor. She did hiss at Carrie, and Carrie ignored this and kept approaching her. Moet hissed again, that's all. Carrie stopped about 4 inches from Moet's face, disappointed. Later in the day, the two humans and the two felines shared the double bed in the master bedroom for a nice nap. I wish I'd had a camera. Moet and Carrie were lying about one foot apart without any comments from Moet, who seemed to feel at home, as did Carrie.
I've learned a lot about Carrie in this short time, especially about what she likes and what pleases her. Her only bad habit is to tempt me into playing with her by rolling over onto her back. If I fall for this, and rub her tummy, she play-bites, and I say "NO!" But mostly it's up to me not to fall for this game. Carrie usually wants to be wherever I am, which is what I asked for. She loves to sit on my lap and just have my hand resting on her. She knows her name and comes when called.
She such a little thing, it's funny to see her attack her wet food in the morning like a truck driver at a diner. This may be one of the highlights of her day. One neighbor visited, and Carrie was curious and friendly.
So things are going very well!
2-24-09 I love Carrie very much. I am so grateful SCRC/Marjorie/Joyce decided to let me adopt her. She is a perfect companion for me - very very affectionate, very interested in being wherever I am, and ready for love at all times. She IS a very BUSY cat. She is constantly exploring all the places and objects in our house in greater detail. She noses her way into every corner, every basket, every opening; she jumps onto every surface, no matter how high, always inspecting and deciding what's interesting. She has joined Moet in the Great Winter Mouse Hunt. We've never put poison out, only the catch & release boxes. But Moet usually gets them first, and now Carrie seems to want to "score" in this department.
I work spend a lot of time in our study on the computer. If Carrie feels neglected, she jumps on my husband's desk and starts pushing papers on the floor. OK! I get it! Then I'll brush her for a while, and when she returns to a state of contentment, I can go back to work.
There's a new photo, "Carrie stands proud." Isn't she gorgeous! Neighbors and friends have met her now and all think she's the most exotic cat they've ever met. She shows her Southern roots by extending warm hospitality to all. Not shy at all.
April 10, 2010 Carrie recently discovered a toy bird in a small wooden birdcage. It didn't take her long to "liberate" the bird from its confinement. Her next task is to detach the bird from the cord that holds it to the cage. I'm sure she's up to the challenge. Her curiosity knows no bounds and amuses us no end.
July 29, 2010 It's Carrie's 6th-month anniversary with us. My 21-year-old daughter is home for the summer and I'm jealous because Carrie likes her too! She even naps on Emily's bed during the day, despite having to share the space with the "other" cat, 16-year-old Moet. The new "August" photos I've posted show how happy Carrie makes me, and how comfortable she is with me, as well as showing off those incredible dark blue eyes. I must admit that Carrie's high-strung personality and enormous energy (racing around the house knocking things over) are a challenge. She gets a kick out of knocking things over. Also, she really, really wants to play with me as if I were a cat, which includes biting. She's toned this behavior down quite a bit, because she doesn't like it when I loudly say NO, but it's still a problem I have to deal with. I think the breeders of Wedgies weren't cognizant of what they were creating in terms of highly sensitive and reactive and perhaps somewhat aggressive personalities as they sculpted the body type. It's clear that Carrie got lost from a caring and loving home (no past abuse). ANYWAY, I really love Carrie and am glad she's the first young (4 years old) Siamese I've adopted, because I hope she'll be with us for a long time!

SARAYU
It has been said that a cat is the visible soul of a home, and what a soul I will be in your home and your heart! I'm mellow and playful and cuddly and a little talkative. And I'm good looking, too! I'm a petite seal point girl with classic face and dainty paws. I'll even let you snuggle me upside-down like a baby. Foster mom doesn't know about how I am with other cats yet, but she does know that I'm more curious than scared of the woofer. Will you look inside yourself and see if maybe I can be the soul in your home and life?

Notes from Home
Isabelle is doing very well at her new home! She has claimed several spots as hers: our rocking chair, the window sills, and above my pillow(her favorite place to sleep at night). She has only been with us for 4 weeks now, but it feels like she has been a member of our family for far longer. We truely could not be happier:) We have a routine down, and she sure knows what it is because if I stray she persistently reminds me. Isabelle shows us her love with countless headbutts and kitty purs, but also by bringing us presents in the middle fo the night. She loves to bring us anything that is in a plastic ziplock bag that we leave out or her toys. At first I thought she was trying to tell me to put things away and keep a cleaner house, but I know it is just her way of showing affection. She has taught us that we need to be very careful with food. One night she jumped on the kitchen counter and stole a cooked chicken breast. Now most animals that I know would hide and eat the chicken, but Isabelle brought it over to me where I was eating and plopped it down at my feet. I just had to chuckle. Now we are extra careful about leaving things out on the counter and we have a squirt bottle to let her know that she cannot get on the counter when we catch her jumping (which is not often, she is smart and know she should not be on the counter).
Junebug (our Jack Russell Terrier) and Isabelle are getting along just fine. I do not think they love each other yet as sisters, but they are very respectful of each others space and food. They both like to look out our big slider door at the birds and squirrels. I think they make a great bird watching team!
I have pictures to share of them both but our computer is in the shop, so I will upload them as soon as I get a chance. Thank you again to everyone who was part of bringing Isabelle to us! She is doing so well and we love everything about her even the quirks!

RAJA
I was dumped in the overnight drop off cage at the local county shelter in a cardboard box. It was dark and stuffy in that box and I tried to escape but I was trapped because the box was taped shut. The rain made loud noises when it hit the box and the box got soggy and I got wet. The big dogs were barking really loud and I was scared.
Finally a man came and took the dogs away. He came back for the box and was going to throw it away but I cried out for help. The man opened the box and said "There's a cat in here!" He grabbed me, took me inside a building, and handed me to a lady. The lady took me into a noisy room and stuck a needle in me. Then she took my picture. After that, the lady put me in a cage. She gave me some food and water and a shoe box with a towel in it. I crawled into the box, cold, wet, and shaking.
I stayed there for three days until foster mom saw my picture on the internet. Foster mom had a hard time finding me because my cage was on the bottom in a corner. The lady said it was because I had so many fleas. Foster mom took me out of the cage and held me and told me she was here to rescue me. Then she took some pictures. She told the lady I needed something for my fleas. Then foster mom put me back in my cage. I cried and told her I wanted to go with her. She said not now but promised me she would come back in a couple of days.

I am at foster moms house now and things are getting better every day. Foster mom calls me Raja; she said it means" little prince". Foster mom gave me a bath and washed away all of the fleas and dirt. She gave me lots of different medicines - one to get rid of the worms, another to boost the iron in my blood, and another to make sure the fleas do not come back. I got some fluids and some special food that foster mom fed to me like a baby. Foster mom snuggled me and told me I was special. Then I got a kitty cold and foster mom had to give me medicine again. Foster mom said I will get over that soon too. I sure hope so!

Raja has been through a lot and now, unfortunately, he has developed a URI (kitty cold). He is eating and drinking and he takes his medicine like a good boy Raja will not be able to meet the other cats until he is over his cold and I know very little about how active or playful Raja is because he has been feeling so poorly. So, if you are interested, hit that Ask About Me paw and I will keep you updated:)
Notes from Home
Raja is over the URI and all are doing fine...he is very well-behaved and loves playing with his buddy, Saki. He loves me too!
They spend a lot of time in the "cube" rolling all over the place. Thank you all.

Hello - why am I not on pending yet??? I'm purrfect in every way (well, except for my lack of boundaries with adult cats), so please ask about me today!

Requirement - must be placed with an active feline playmate who will enjoy games of chase and wrestling! Not good with older cats who don't want to be ridden like a horse or stalked like a mouse!

LIL' BIT
Lil' bit? I'm anything but little. I'm one of those old-fashioned apple head meezers that you don't see much any more. More about me soon - but my shelter paperwork said that I liked other cats, small dogs, and older children. So far I'm a freindly, well-adjusted, and purry guy. And quite the good looking one, if I do say so myself. I'll be meeting the other kitties here this weekend, but so far those paws that go under the door to my room don't bother me at all. I go to the vet this week to make sure all's well, but I'll be ready to go home soon. Need a big blue cat? Then maybe you should ask about me. I'm 9 1/2 pounds of nice tempered, good looking Meezer.
Notes from Home
Quinn is just the sweetest cat! He has settled in nicely and adores our 17 year old daughter. She will get him all frisky and then when she tries to walk away he gallops after her for more fun – he’s a riot to watch! He likes our dog Cassie but just can’t bring himself to snuggle with her quite yet although she would love it. He has a sense of humor – he will deliberately stand above the dog on a piece of furniture and push whatever he can find off onto her! :-) Quinn also loves to keep my husband company when he works by stretching out and sleeping on his desk - he’s his most contented employee! His purr is so sweet – quite a motor interspersed with little chirps. He must have been fed human food in his prior life because he appears out of nowhere whenever someone is eating any type of chip – he actually will hang over our shoulders and beg to no avail! He is extremely motivated by kitty treats and is happy to eat right out of our hands. We are just thrilled with our sweet Quinn and very thankful for SCRC!
